What was the last product that let you down?
Urban Decay Ultraviolet was such a let-down for me, personally! I expected far more from the brand, especially with shades they’ve done multiple times in the past.

I have had a few mascara fails these last few months. Pat McGrath Fetisheyes Mascara flakes like crazy, clumps and smells gawd awful. “Old lady” perfume should NOT be in mascara and it lingers too!
On a more affordable note, the Essence Volume Hero truly sucks. It’s like putting glue on my lashes. It made them short and stubby and stick together which is odd bc I have super long lashes normally. And it was a pain to remove. Didn’t add volume. Was no hero. Disappointment considering I love their Lash Princess mascara so much!
And I pulled out the Tarte Maneater mascara. I got it as a free birthday from Ulta last year. I’ve realized I just don’t like rubber wands with my mascara. Again, it just does nothing and it’s a pain to remove. I probably didn’t give this one a fair shot but I just cannot with rubber wands. Bought a Lancome Monseuir Big and I could not be happier. Yay to the fat natural bristle brushes!! My lashes look extremely black, super full, long and lush. What I wanted from the Essence and Tarte but could not achieve!
We literally have the same mascara tastes/needs! I read this and felt like I wrote it LOL
Monseuir Big is everything! I love the waterproof also because my eyes water so badly with my allergies.
Yay to big, fluffy lashes?
I still need to experiment with them more (only used them in one mani yet), but I recently bought KBShimmer’s Basic Training and Clearly On Top because my previous standby top coat (Revlon’s Quick Dry) would always crack. I got fewer cracks, but unfortunately, they then peeled off—not as much as I experienced with Seche Vite; kind of in between the peeling of Seche and the fissures of Revlon. I think maybe the top coat didn’t play well with the formulas of two of the three polishes I used, but it would be nice to have a top coat that wears well regardless of what I put it over 🙁
I gave up on the brand. I never felt like the polishes fully dried down and always had a little bit of squish to them and dented really easy. Mine would peel off in a day or 2. OPI is fine as a base coat but their topcoats don’t really do anything for shine. I’ve tried Holo Taco’s long lasting base coat and the 2 topcoats and love them. Sally Hansen super shine and Big Shiny for topcoats are also great.
Holo Taco was also on my list to try, but I’m not comfortable with Cristine’s friendship with Jeffree Star, so I decided to give other companies a try. The other brands I would want to try are Zoya, Glisten & Glow, and maybe now Lights Lacquer (I heard good things about the wear of KL Polish, although the Lights formula doesn’t seem to be identical).
I have Zoya’s set to try next and I was going to order from Lights Lacquer. The only thing I’ve tried from Glisten and Glow is their quick dry top coat and it made my polish shrink. I think there’s a window of time where you have to apply it while the polish is partially wet and I waited a bit too long.
Completely agree with you about Holo Taco.
Lights Lacquer is pretty good in my experience. I’d recommend their polish. ILNP is another great company if you haven’t tried anything by them yet.
EOS Vampire Kiss lip balm.
Absolutely awful in every way: scent, texture, hydration, color payoff. I know it’s just a preference thing so I sold a few completely unopened spares on eBay and received a complaint that one had been USED and had debris so apparently their quality control sucks as well.
Done with EOS.
The Melt 420 Palette. Most of the shadows are sheer and/or hard to blend, and the formula is extremely powdery. With the right primer and technique, they can be made to work, but for the price, they should be much better quality. I guess we know what they were smoking when they created this formula.
Idk I have Melt’s Gemini and loved it but every other palette seems to have complaints about quality, pressing and there seems to be a consistency issue that I’m not sure I will ever purchase from them again. They are too expensive to have such issues. Better brands for less $$
I totally agree. They seem really inconsistent. I decided to swear them off till they get their act together.
I mostly repurchase the same items nowadays, I am rarely disappointed.
I recently started using a Gimme Brow mini and I kind of… dislike it??? Gimme Brow was my old time favorite, but after falling in love with Hourglass brow products I haven’t repurchased for quite some time. I open this mini I got as a Sephora perk and I am kind of… disappointed??? I don’t know if it’s the mini size an issue, if my memory over hyped the product or just that now there are so much better brow gels on the market.
This, exactly this ⬆️. UD really dropped the ball with Ultraviolet. And it HURT because I like so many others had been clamoring for a Naked purple palette for YEARS. ?
They’ve done great purples in the past, so it was especially maddening.
I’m about to hide from the stoning, but PMG’s lipsticks. Impossible for me to get a good read on how the colors would look on me despite lots of searching. (Bad. Muddy. Darker than seemed from online photos. Mostly cooler than appeared in online photos. Waaaay to similar to each other.) I do get the buzz about the formula though.
I will agree….
Just left Sephora, first visit since the virus. Made the trip to return Natasha Denona’s Bonze face palette. I liked the colors but the two cream products both dried out on me. I wasn’t able to get any color from the dried highlighter and blush. I love my ND Tan & Glow face palette but this one disappointed me!
Yup, definitely second the UD Ultraviolet palette: I felt like if that was a success, UD would have made a comeback. The singles and past palettes show that Urban Decay is capable of making decent purples and peaches but perhaps not in palettes
TooFaced Born This Way The Natural Nudes eyeshadow palette. I had a coupon, but I still didn’t think it was worth it. I remember TF shadows blending better, but maybe it’s just me. A few influencers raved about it so I thought why not. It just didn’t work for me.
Personally, I haven’t had a product disappoint me in quite awhile, but what springs to mind is the Bite Beauty lipsticks I purchased – Maple and Nori. I found them hard to use on my lips, not creamy or easy to apply. They wore down quickly too and left quite a stain. Maple turned out to be a berry shade on me and Nori is way too dark for me to wear now.
Not that I purchased it, but I definitely agree with you Christine about the UD Ultraviolet. It was a travesty of the Naked line.
I was also disappointed with Naked Honey too. I so was looking forward to purchasing it and when I saw your review, I was completely disappointed. Too many similar mattes and the few gold shades I liked didn’t compensate for the similarities in the shades.
UD Honey and and what they trotted out as a purple palette.
Enormous. Morphe . Palettes. No. Person. Can. Possibly. Pan.
Amazon Makeup (I mean Haus Labs) …
Juvia’s Place Zulu Palette. All the reviews I read said the shadows would be super pigmented, but mine were very sheer so I couldn’t do the looks I wanted to do. I’m not sure if there are quality inconsistencies with the brand or if the other reviewers had a different definition of pigmented.
