What was the last major change you made to your makeup routine?
I haven’t been setting my foundation as often during the day, though if I’m doing a lot of photos I still will because my face sweats like nobody’s business!

Going to try and start using some color correctors to hide my imperfections. I want my overall face to look a lot better if possible.
Hmmm – good question. All I can think of with regard to makeup is bringing my Lise Watier SunSmart all the way into my under-eye area when I apply it to my face. It makes a good base for concealer (this is really such a great product and works well as a foundation base too). Other than that, it’s using hypochlorous acid spray after cleansing and before my other skin care products but that’s more a “skincare” than it is a “makeup” change.
I used to always use a full coverage foundation. The older I get I find using a watery skin tint and top it with a
very small amount of powder foundation gives me a better result and not so cakey…. I get coverage in the spots I want without being so thick to settle in lines.
When the pandemic started, I completely stopped wearing makeup. For the next two years of working at home, the only time I wore makeup was to fill in my sparse brows and maybe a bit of mascara if I had to go the store. I got very used to seeing myself makeup-free. Now that life has somewhat returned to normal, I’m back to wearing full makeup, but now I’m into very neutral, toned down looks on myself, as opposed to all the colors I used to play with pre-pandemic.
I have been really enjoying balm and cream to powder formulas lately and am using that for foundation, bronzer and blush.
I set with loose powder and a puff as opposed to the buffing technique.
I am also using liquid blush (Rare Beauty) now more than I am powder.
I am not deepening the outer v anymore (eyeshadow).
I only use eye primer, no longer “prime” my skin (except for skin care) before foundation.
Hmm, the only thing I can come up with is when I made the anxiety inducing move to using Japanese fiber filled super waterproof, flakeproof mascara, and I am so thrilled that I did! This one, Heroine Make Long And Curl Waterproof Mascara is thee STUFF!
Over the past few years I have been getting away from full coverage, very matte foundations. I don’t necessarily want a very dewy face, but I like taking off my makeup and knowing that my face hasn’t been dessicated like a lizard in the sun. Serum foundations are my faves right now, and I might try Danessa Myricks’ when I finish up more of what I have now.
For a long time I stopped wearing blush. I was wearing NARS Orgasm and never liked it but bought into the universal color thing that was its hype. A few months ago I happened on a muddy/taupe/mauve eyeshadow that is beautiful as a blush. I’m a happy girl. I just can’t wing warm/peach anything on my complexion I see. Good to know.
Ive been using more cream and stick products
I guess the only change I have made to my makeup routine now, post pandemic or rather post lockdowns, is to add face and eye primer more regularly to my makeup routine. During our lockdowns, I didn’t bother with primer at all. The addition of primer does set my foundation and eyeshadows much better and they last all day.
I am also wearing more mascara too.
I purchased Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen as my sunscreen and primer and it’s soo good! It saves me time putting sunscreen and primer on and that’s a win in my book. It agrees with all of my other face products and that is where I usually have a problem. There are a few other brands out there that I might try but this one is a yes for me.
I stopped setting my under eye concealers. Didn’t realize that the under eye powders emphasized my wrinkles. Looks much better under my aging eye without the powders.
I only recently learned about silicone based primer vs. water based primer and the type of foundation you use. THIS IS HUGE!
Only use water based with water based and silicone based with silicone based.
This will prevent your foundation from separating and it will stop it from crumbling and flaking.
Last year I switched from wearing mostly liquid foundations to a luminous powder foundation (Laura Geller Baked Balance-n-Brighten Color Correcting Foundation in Porcelain). I now only wear liquids if I’m having a really terrible skin day. Fortunately, those are pretty rare the last year or so. I missed the ease and light feeling if wearing powder foundation, and this one even covers my rosacea most of the time.
Before the pandemic, I wore full coverage foundation always. But it ended up looking ridiculous after five minutes of wearing a mask so I switched to a skin tint. I like the one from L’Oreal a lot. It doesn’t settle in my fine lines or wear off as noticeably as a typical foundation would.
