What was the last hyped up product you fell for? Was it worth the hype?

If it’s hyped up, that means it’s usually on my list to review it! I will say that Kat Von D’s Pastel Goth palette had buzz since it was announced, and I think it lived up to the hype.

Inside of a short amount of time, I purchased 2 very hyped KVD LE items: the Metal Matte and the Alchemist palettes. I love them both! Metal Matte the most because it has such a well arranged layout which is conducive to being able to spot a look instantaneously, the shadows are of excellent quality and it has a TON of product. Alchemist I love for special effects, like over another eyeshadow or as a highlighter on my cheekbones and cupids bow. But, its smaller amount of product has me using it a bit more sparingly.

Lulle Avatar

The Victoria Beckham x Estee Lauder eyeshadow palette, and yes, it was worth it despite the high price tag!
I don’t fall for the hype very often anymore (I think that’s actually the only “hyped” palette I bought last year), I always wait for reviews and swatches before making a decision.

Michele Avatar

I decided to look on the Neiman Marcus website last week to see if they had any of the collection online. Yes! There was one palette. (Maybe someone returned it?) I couldn’t type fast enough…so scared it would disappear. Then, I kept waiting for a cancellation email, but it shipped. Incredible.

Pearl Avatar

I’ll do one of each – I didn’t plan it but they are both highlighters:

Becca Champagne Pop – no, it wasn’t worth it, was invisible on my skin.

MAC Whisper of Gilt – yes it was worth it, I use it regularly and I hope they repromote soon because I will repurchase (and possibly a back up).

Pearl Avatar

I loved Wolfie in the tube – lovely metallic red (on me) – but it wore off in patches and stained my lips with patchy sparkle left behind. 😐 I really like their glosses, though. I just ordered a few that were ‘last call’ and going to be discontinued.

Bon Bon Avatar

I don’t care for matte lippies but colourpop has a few I wear. They’ve really surprised me with their products at such a low price. Have only used lips tho. Have you tried the other product lines? Also, I love my Becca highlighter in opal, poured-not pressed or by wand. Such a beautiful shade for my lighter side of medium skin tone and even better when I have summer tan.

Pearl Avatar

I haven’t tried other matte lippies from other brands – my lips are like carpet after I wear mattes. I like ColourPop’s satins, but I’ve found they either dry all the way down or they are tacky still after a few hours. Yes about the Becca Opal! I should have just stuck with that – I have the pressed, love it!

CeeBee Avatar

The Master Palette from Mario/ABH – it’s good but not great. I don’t regret buying it as such, but it’s definitely something I could have lived without.

Lizzi Avatar

The Kat Von D foundation has been pretty hyped up on instagram, shows it covering facial tattoos. I’ve been liking it, but not as an everyday foundation. It’s so pigmented and opaque that ive been using it as concealer!

Mariella Avatar

Probably the ABH Mario palette and I do feel it was worth it – it has some absolutely lovely shadows and I don’t find I have a problem with the fallout that some people encountered. A while back, I also treated myself to a face mist from Tatcha. I’m not sure it it was “hyped up” or not but it was pricey and I was a bit dubious but I am dubious no more…I love it!

Anime Avatar

Two things because they happened simultaneously: Milani’s new Strobelight Instant Glow Powder and Physician’s Formula Butter Blush. I really am pleased with how both of these worked out. They both lean on the side of being more buildable so that’s nice!

Mariella Avatar

I don’t know how hyped up it was but it has been one of my best purchases in recent years. I seem to mention it every time we’re asked a question about our most used eye product or favourite eye look of the month. I know they won’t (since they never seem to do this) but I SO wish Chanel would make that quad permanent so others could experience the wonderfulness of it.

Anna Avatar

This. I haven’t noticed a lot of “hype” elsewhere, but if people talk about a summer collection item when the summer is over, it must be really good!

Fran Avatar

I like the Pastel Goth palette, too, although I just tried it on impulse because I wanted the colors, and like the other palettes I’ve gotten from Kat Von D recently — I hadn’t seen the buzz.

The Dyson hair dryer has been worth it for me, because of some special needs I have in regards to drying my hair (very long, non-porous hair that takes forever to dry + rotator cuff problems). I don’t think it would be worth it for everyone.

Debbie Avatar

I fell for The Peach Palette back in April, but was unable to get it then. I did get it on its second release in December. I like the colors and the formula. In fact I think that they improved it slightly. Also the Mario palette from Anastasia…and that is fabulous.

MacKenzie Avatar

Tarte Shape Tape! For me, it wasn’t worth it. Every time I use it, it makes my undereyes look a million years old. I use it with a slightly damp beauty blender. Any tips??

Deborah S. Avatar

MacKenzie,
I don’t know if this will help or not but I found from my own experience that I really needed to use a lot less of the Shape Tape than I did other concealers. When I applied the same amount of Shape Tape it made my under eye circles and bags have a texture to them that wasn’t there with other concealers and it wasn’t pretty. When I cut back on the amount that texture look went away for me. I don’t “bake” but I do use a little more translucent powder under my eyes to set. I know some people feel that it doesn’t work well for under eye concealing as it does for face but I use it for both.

MacKenzie Avatar

Thank you so much, Deborah! I only use the tiniest dot, but I’ll try cutting it back a bit more and maybe dampening my beauty blender more. If anything, I’ve used it to light my foundation for FX/character makeup and it was fine. Thanks again!

ShariP Avatar

MacKenzie, I also found that you need just a fraction of this concealer. I suggest starting by wiping a lot of the product on the edge on the tube so that it goes back in…kind of like with a glop of mascara on the end of the wand. Then make smaller open trials under your eyes. Sometimes I find that even that is still too much. I can seriously see a tube lasting for at least 6 months. I’ve never had a concealer this pigmented. Sometimes I bake, other times I just set with powder, but I don’t have creasing either way.

Summer Avatar

I use very little, but I use my finger to pat it in & smoothie it out. I tried using the bb & it didn’t work for me with the shape tape. I also very lightly set it with very thin powder, no baking. I love it so much

Alecto Avatar

I’d have to say Mineral Veil primer, and yes.

It’s hard for me to say that I get things that are hyped, because the only blog I really follow is Temptalia, so I’m not sure what’s being “hyped,” I only know when it shows up here. I do see some things on Pinterest, but half the time those are promotes or ads from the cosmetics companies (UD does a lot). I guess if being influenced by comments on this one blog is giving in to hype, then it happens (and this is where I got all the info on Mineral Veil).

Alecto Avatar

Oh, I nearly forgot that I got the Coloured Raine Queen of Hearts palette at around the same time — not sure which came first. And yes, that was worth it too.I’m constantly using it in concert with ABH Modern Renaissance.

Anne Avatar

The color correctors were heavily hyped. They’ve been another tool in in the toolbox, so to speak, and the ones I purchased (from YSL, Sephora and UD) definitely have met the hype. I use them all the time in various ways.

Heather Avatar

ABH Modern Renaissance–while it’s gorgeous and high-quality, I rarely put in the time or effort for a complex eye look; it mostly sits on my counter.

Heather Avatar

Does yours have major kick-up & fall out? I love mine & it blends beautifully, but I absolutely have to do my eyes first which I never did before. I get SO much fall out.

Jessica Avatar

Not sure how much hype there was, but Burberry’s liquid lip velvets are fantastic! And I say that as someone who hates liquid lipstick. I have Fawn Rose, which is the perfect nude for me (meaning it’s mostly pink with very little brown.) Can’t wait to try more shades!

Shannon. N Avatar

I don’t really buy “hyped” things to be honest. I just buy what iv read about and like kind of thing.

But I have to say, I am LIVING for my colourpop pressed eye shadows!!

I have 4 of them, 1 matte and 3 mettalics. And they are all so smooth, creamy, and amazing!! I think they are tied with MUFE for my favourite eye shadow formula right now!!

Adriana Avatar

I gave in the hype for the Hourglass
Vanish Seamless Finish Foundation Stick, I love it ? and think it’s worth every cent; even though I love it I won’t splurge on it again, you get so little product for your $ ?

Nathalie Avatar

Kat von D’s Metal Matte palette. I have not used any other palette since mid-December! I open my drawer and I hear my Too Faced Chocolate and Bon Bon palettes saying ‘Hey you used to love us, what happened?’

Maria Avatar

Estee lauder Victoria beckham Modern Mercury Highlighter and single shadow Bitter Clove. They both lived up to the hype when so many products don’t.

Dua Avatar

I forgot to mention ABH Modern Renasanse Palette. My favorite purchase of 2016. It was love at first sight and I managed to snatch one on the first try!

I aleardy hit pan on two shadows as I can’t keep my hands off it!

HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

Heather Avatar

The last hyped up thing I got was the Milk Makeup Blur Stick. But it’s kind of weird bc I had ordered mine apparently during the “pre-sale” & didn’t know it. I just saw it on the site & thought it looked cool and THEN everyone started talking about it. Everyone raves about how it blurs your pores & fine lines. It does not work for me AT ALL. I used it alone & it made my skin look dry. So then I moisturized well before like they advised on their IG & it pilled up! Idk WHAT I’m doing wrong but I wish I could get my 36 bucks back, bc to me it definitely did not live up to the hype.

Lily Avatar

I bought the sweet peach palette and I loved it. Unfortunately, I’m allergic to the scented ingredients and it gives me headaches. I sold it to a friend but I’m so sad…

Lily Avatar

I’m going to try to dupe them with mac singles but I wish they would come out with an unscented version so I could love the palette as much as I want to.

Genevieve Avatar

I don’t buy products that are hyped up, usually because the shades aren’t mine and even if they were, it is often way too difficult to get them.
Even though one store (Mecca Maxima) sells UD, Too Faced etc. we don’t get all the releases and they are often months after the products have been available in the US.

The last eye shadow palette I went all out for (bareMinerals Soft and Smoky), it took me over a year to get it off ebay, paying a hefty international shipping rate. And yes, it was worth it.

Sushi Q Avatar

The Renaissance Palette from Anastasia. Felt like Indiana Jones on an action packed adventure seeking this out – when it finally arrived I swore I heard operatic voices as I cracked it open,…and then…”MEH”
Colors are gorgeous, but I was just caught up in “the hype.” THANKFULLY, I purchased the tarteist PRO 20 Shades palette (16 being matte). TARTE came to my rescue & I abs ADORE it!

Sheila Avatar

Bought several hyped products last year. I returned Lorac’s MegaPro 3 and Tarte’s Swamp Queen was a HUGE fail. But I fell in love with Viseart’s Matte palettes and bought 3 for the WIN!

Rachel lael Avatar

I bought the Nars Unfiltered palette (the first one). I love it and I used my Sephora VIB Rouge $25.00 off that they sent out at the end of the year. I haven’t used every shade yet, I don’t think. But between what I like so far and the price I got for it, I’m really happy with it.

Primpcess Avatar

I have been impressed by quite a few hyped-up products this year:
-pat McGrath everything lip kit: amazing!!! Complements galore every time I wear it.
-kvd matte/metals : fantastic! Great quality and great colour combos.
-kvd alchemist: wasn’t on my radar at all, but was pleasantly surprised when I swatched it in person.
-UD Afterdark palette: wonderful colours/shimmer and I use it quite often in combo with kvd matte/metal palette
-pat McGrath metamorphosis kit: unfortunately I have not got to use it yet. I totally got caught up in that hype and I was so impressed with the lip kit, I thought I had to have it, when realistically I prob won’t use it very often. My clubbing days are over, and between work and the kids, I don’t get out much that would warrant using it….it sure is pretty though.

It Cosmetics foundation/cream, blush, Hello Lashes mascara, highlighter, brow pencil, Bye Bye concealer.
I thought It Cosmetics was all hype (especially since they’ve paired with Guthy Renker) so I put off trying them for years. Then I tried the CC cream because I needed a 50 spf product. WOW! I was blown away! (And I’m a big Cle de Peau snob).
I am thoroughly impressed with IT Cosmetics. The only thing I’ve tried from It Cosmetics that I haven’t liked was the eyeliner ‘gel’ pencil (dry) and the lippies (last only an hour on).

The last hyped up product I just fell for is the ColouredRaine “Queen of Hearts” Palette. Unfortunately, it sold out three days ago and I was not able to order it. I, along with others, are hoping that this limited edition palette will be restocked a last time and/or become a permanent palette.

Silvia Avatar

WetnWild I’ll have a Cosmo highlighter a lively pink! as well as the other two Sangria Castles a beautiful bronze like, Boozy Brunch is golden any of these Fergies ones! WetnWild blushes and lipsticks I love the mattes. All Milani baked blushes as well as the gorgeous roses, and Physians Formula Powder, bronzers, blush go on magically soft! L’Oréal Infallible! CeraVé!
Many items from Boots No.7 theirceyeshadiws are lovely! As well as the eyebrow kit and lipsticks, foundation, serum.

Coloured Rain Queen of Hearts palette. 1000% worth every penny. I never want to put it down. They’re lip paints on the other hand, I do not like them at all.

Scout Avatar

The last one for me was the Too Faced bronzer/blusher/highlighter palette and the single blush in the suddenly extended peach collection… I find the single blush worthy of a bit of hype since it is a very useful colour in sort of the same playfield as Nars Orgasm, but just a tad less pink shift to it which I like! The other palette turned into a bit of a disappointment. Not that it is a bad product in itself. It is ok in quality. And the highlighter in particular has a nice texture. What’s disappointing is that with this launch and especially that palette it is so apparent how Too Faced now has become a part of the EL family and that probably means the end of their innovative era as a company…
The reason I say this is because what I have found is that this peach palette with its bronzer, highlighter and blush is pretty much identical with the latest issue of the Lauder Bronze Godess palette from last year! Same deal with a larger blush in the middle (identical colours even) flanked by the smaller blush and bronze. There is exactly 11.5 grams of product in both palettes and even if I haven’t checked the inci of them both I’m sure they are pretty much the same ingredientwise too. Only difference is the pressed pattern, the packaging and the peach smell…Neither is a bad product. But this discovery sort of tells me that the innovative days of Too Faced could now might be over…

Brenda Avatar

I have several – LOL!
1) IT Cosmetics CC Cream – OMG I don’t know where it’s been my entire life
2) KVD Metal Matte palette – the colors are so beautiful and you can make so many looks with the it
3) KVD Pastel Goth – just got it and wow I love both eye looks I’ve made!
4) NARS Unfiltered II blush palette – I haven’t used anything else but it since I picked it up in December with my Sephora coupon

Couple of products that didn’t live up to the hype and both from the same brand – BECCA
1) BECCA x Jaclyn Hill face palette – I never use it
2) BECCA x Jaclyn Hill eye palette – I got one of the good ones but it just really didn’t work for me

Adriana Avatar

Hourglass Ambient Powder in Dim Light. This finishing powder delivers on it’s promise of manipulating harsh light and concealing skin imperfections. So many of the highlighting powders available are way too shiny and glittering. Between the glitter on the eyes, lips and face some women, sad too say, suffer from glitter overload. I get so many compliments when I use this product that it’s now a permanent part of my makeup routine. It’s a glow without the glitter. I might add that some of the other powders offered in this line are a bit more shiny but not the Dim Light. The sales girl at Sephora was right….beautiful product.

Erin Avatar

Goodness, I’m not sure, maybe the Ouai wave spray? It was pretty good. The Christophe Robin hair masque, man it lives up to the hype, which sucks as it’s like $88. UFO from SR exceeded the hype. MUFE water blend also lived up to the hype. TF lipsticks do most of the time.

Astrild Avatar

UD color corrector in Peach. Althougn it does a great job concealing my dark circles, it looks a little bit cakey on my undereye area. I much prefer my Kryolan corrector. It’s a cream product, so it’s heavier in consistency than the UD one, but surprisingly it looks so much better applied.

Hannah Avatar

I bought the Mod Ren palette bc of all the hype it got, but honestly, it’s not my favorite. I love it, but my Mario palette is better. The shades are beautiful, and I love warm tones, but they are more powdery than I usually would like. It’s still good, but it’s just so overhyped.

Emilie Avatar

The Kat Von D Metal/Matte palette! I think it was totally worth the hype and I’m so glad I bought it, unique shades with awesome formulas 🙂 Definitely one of those palettes that inspires me to be creative. I would also say the Urban Decay Moondust palette (which I also really love and picked up more recently), but I honestly didn’t hear all that much hype about it.

Vanessa Avatar

I want to the ABH Modern Renaissance palette. It was so hyped up everywhere but I find the shadows to be way to powdery for my taste and although the colors although beautiful I found them to be very difficult to work with for even the most natural of looks.

Silvia Avatar

WetnWild rainbow highliter all the others have been great specially the Fergie ones! This one I tried for pure crazy fun I still like it but not love as much as the others afraid to look bluish or beat up if I press hard. Lol! So it so it ends up as eyeshadow highlighter. Still lots of fun! It does look so beautiful that rainbow.

Silvia Avatar

Nope! Will not be falling for any more hyped up beauty thing! But dying to get my hands on KVD holographic little palette. 🙂 Have my own shop of highlighters falling for all the hype and LE’s. Lol! Whom am I kidding?!
