We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Eyeshadow palettes, especially those that aren’t heavy on the latest trend of reds, oranges, hot pinks. I just got the Smashbox Minimalist 8-pan (I think it’s fairly new) and love it because it’s exactly the sorts of colours I reach for daily (and it has some pretty taupes in it, Christine! Sort of wondering if you’ve seen this and, if so, what you think of it)

Glad to hear that. If you do get it, I hope you enjoy it as much as I am. A lot of people might find it “boring”, especially in light of all the orange and bright palettes that abound but, for me, it creates the sort of look I actually wear rather than some sort of “creative” effect that I’d never wear out in public.

When I first saw it, Janice, I came home and checked here for a review and, sadly, there wasn’t one so I went on the basis of my own experience swatching it in the store. I really is a great palette and the colours are those it’s simply hard to go wrong with when the quality is good, as it is in this case. I do hope Christine reviews it – I’d be curious as to her take on it as she’s got so much more experience than most of us with a wide range of brands and products.

Yes, I’m hoping Christine reviews this palette. There was another new one i saw called Punked, I think. It was a cool, purplish one. Swatched nice! I’m waiting for a review on these two. These 2 are so different from all the warm toned eyeshadows.

I noticed that one too, Janice, and may yet pick it up. It’s the sort of purples that I’d actually wear…a bit subdued and really nice. I think the reviews at Sephora’s site are pretty good for both palettes.

For me it’s a brand preference first, then product, so:

Chanel: eye shadow quad or blush
MAC: eye shadow palette
Tom Ford: palette, eye cream color, eye shadow quad or blush
Pat McGrath – eye shadow palette and lipstick
Wayne Goss brushes

Also anything holiday from the above brands – I love the packaging.

Dark red and brown red l/s, esp Audacious or Pat; taupe and gray e/s. Colored mascara and liners. But I get so bummed, when the liner formula doesn’t work for me, like MJB. Superb colors, that don’t last three minutes, lower.

Oily/dehydrated due to age. I think my eyes are the same way, oily, but lacking in water. An MD gave me a script once, and it was like putting burning petroleum in my eyes. No way, Jose. But I swear I use more natural tears than I drink water. I think it’s the concentration of oil that eats it, on the waterline. But it’s not much better above the upper lash line. Sometimes chemistries just are incompatible. It was not worth it to do an intensive ingredient investigation to figure out why it does not work. It’s not an allergy. UD. for whatever reason, is fine. Waterline (it autocorrected to uterine, how very bizarre) disappears eventually, but not almost all of it in under five minutes. Until my skin (ph?) balanced by using Paula, all cream blush…even Nars Turkish Red, that was ultra bold, disappeared as well. No wonder I’m a derm’s (currently derm/ rheumatologist’s nightmare.

Red eyeshadows. Satin eyeshadows that look like they might be the same color as my eyes (they never are). Gold or yellow-based, almost-my-skin-tone lip products. Strongly yellow / very light foundations. Light banana powders (though they’re never light enough — I don’t know why I keep my hopes so high in this arena). Strong, pure, saturated, satin or velvet (or matte), neutral-cool red to wine-berry lip colors.

Sorry I didn’t see this earlier. Probably the best example of what you’re asking for is Risque from Concrete Minerals. It’s a loose power shadow, and not everyone is willing to deal with those, but on me it’s a true, matte, primary red.

Shimmery coral, pink, & red lipsticks/glosses. I want them all! Eyeshadow palettes that have rich mattes & shimmers. Browns, aubergines, golds, & plums. Also Taupe. Teal, & brown eyeliners. Hourglass powders & blushes. Macs extra dimension blushes. Highlighters, all finishes.

Anything taupe, teal, purple or green for eyes. Also bronzes, silvers and coppers.
Pretty glowy blushes that will give a healthy looking color.
Lip colors in corals, orchids, good oranges or nice true reds, and a good MLBB color.

Eyeshadow palettes, rose and berry puppies with shimmer., MJ Highliners of many colors. Same w UD 24/7 liners. Creamy moisturizers. Good non waterproof mascaras. A nice blush w a bit of shine.

For me it’s khaki, warm grey, teal, gold shadows/liners. Luminous finishes. Peachy-coral-rose-gold blushes.
Anything that promises lift/wrinkle minimizing. Lush mascaras that don’t smudge – esp. in brown.
