What lip color do you want to wear but rarely do?
I love shades like Bite Beauty Squid Ink (blue) and Kale (dark green), which I do reach for but in another life, I’d be reaching for them every other week!

Vampy dark burgundies and the like. I’m not afraid to wear them but I find the color doesn’t survive the day… after lunch they look very patchy and dry And reapplication emphasizes lip texture and just looks messy. And I’ve tried some high end products here. I just find reds wear better.
I love the idea of orange-red, but it makes me look like I have jaundice, so I don’t! (I recently bought Dior 999, which is right on the border of what I can get away with, but given it’s Dior, yes, I made sure it worked before I bought it) Apart from that, I do wear most of what I want to most of the time. I’m having a big berry/ mauve kick. People tell me I’d look good in blues, greens, etc, but I don’t fancy it.
Red, black, and anything dark! Being blonde, blue, and a pale NW 13, dark and bright shades are too harsh on me but I love them on other people.
Corals and orange-reds. They are gorgeous and cheerful colors on others. But on me they make me look ill and emphasize any yellow in my teeth.
Nudes believe it or not. I’m anemic so my skin is a sickly yellow pale shade. I’ve bought a few nude shades from Kylie cosmetics and colourpop described as nude but putting them on just makes it jarring to see how different it is compared to my skin. I’ve been thinking that unbutton by Fenty Beauty might be a nice nude for me but I definitely want to test before buying.
I have the same issue … sort of … I’m not anemic, and I wouldn’t call my skin color “sickly,” but I have prominently yellow skin, fair to light (I like to think of it as “pale gold”). I’ve never tried a nude that didn’t look peach or pink on me (and peach really makes the yellowness of my skin apparent in the worst, muddy kind of way). If I ever hope to get a lip color that works in a “matches my skin” way, I’ll almost certainly have to have it custom mixed.
If I wore nude lipstick, I think everyone would asking if I were ill – it just looks sickly on me!
Third one here agreeing with nudes failures, mal functioning shade on me. Lol! Not that I hate nudes but on my face and life I need some color otherwise I’d look so sickly off pale with nudes not in a good way. I love Bare it all by WetnWild such a pretty delicate shade and another one a bit darker with Flesh in the name forgot exactly so pretty but just not my shades. I also need to limit getting away with either eyes, cheeks or lipstick in bright color and wear the other two features lighter so I don’t look like McDonald’s clown.
Similar fair olive coloring. Can’t wear nudes either. Glosses? Not so much. Since I like strong eye looks, having an underdone lip would supposedly be the right balance. But it’s not an option.
I wish I could wear dark vampy winereds more often. I could, but I want to wear them to the right occasion.
I also love blue lipstick, but strangely I get to wear it more often around a group where I feel it’s perfect!
I have a similar answer: The colors I would like to wear more, I *DO* wear, just not as often as I’d like. I’m known for wearing unusual colors at work, but I make a point of only wearing them on days when I feel certain I won’t be seen by anyone who doesn’t work for my company; when I know I’m heading out into the world for meetings, it’s blander than bland (often no lip color at all). Last Friday I wore Iced Out from Smashbox, and no one in my office even blinked. Problem is, my job actually does require a decent amount of interaction with the outside world, hence my not being able to wear these colors as often as I like.
Colourpop Getty (teal). I love how it looks, but I rarely have an occasion to wear it.
Same here, Seraphine! ?
Eating is involved most of the time when we go out…and eating while wearing blue lipstick is not very pretty. Lol!
Navy blue and metallic red with golden sparkles.
Blue, and I never wear it. But I so with I could find one that I could. I’ve tired several, but as I’m older and have dark circles (even if I cover them well), I just look too much like the Wicked Witch of the West with this color. 🙁
I pretty much wear any colour that I am attracted to except a true orange. I like orange and when I see it on someone else I usually love it and then when it comes to actually wearing it, I just don’t. I don’t look good in orange but with other colours that doesn’t normally stop me. I am not attracted to more non-traditional colours like blue, green and black. I think I am just too old to see those as actual lip colours although I do like them on others. I follow Allana Davidson on YT and she is very warm toned and loves a good warm look and every time she puts a lipstick on I swoon. Invariably she is wearing a warm orange/red/brown shade and I will go immediately and put the lipstick in my cart where it sits and I stare at it every time I go to Sephora. I think it is a case of the grass always being greener on the other side!
I am trying to introduce some corals into my lipstick collection although I haven’t found one I love yet.
I’m with you there on Bite Kale, and same goes for CP Getty; in another lifetime or if I were living back near NYC! But here? Not so much. Already get stared at enough because I push the envelope while living in this rather conservative region.
But, I do wear them sometimes if I’m going to be at home, but still want to play around with my makeup!
I love red lipstick, but I have to be careful it doesn’t turn pink on me – something about my lip chemistry does this often and it is very annoying.
On Halloween I dressed up as Wednesday Adams so I could wear Black lipstick. Otherwise I don’t stray from the norm. I am fair skinned and anything dark makes me look like a vampire or a witch, hence, Halloween is a favorite holiday of mine.
Classic, full-bodied reds. I feel too self-conscious in them — worried that I’ll end up with lipstick on my teeth all the time, among other things. Love the look, though.
OG Kat von D Studded Lipstick in Poe. Because my tooth enamel is transparent, my teeth always look slightly yellow. Poe actually gives them green cast! I have to make sure my enamel is thoroughly de-stained (I can’t whiten transparent, just make it cleaner) to minimize this effect. Poe is the only lipstick I’ve ever owned that gives this green effect. It’s such a unique shade, though. I can’t bear to just give it up completely.
SugarPill Liquid LIp Color in Kim Chi is another one. It isn’t sparkly like it was shown in promo pictures, even after rubbing my lips together. Because it’s so light, it doesn’t work on me as a matte. I have to line it with ColourPop Lippie Pencil in Marshmallow and wear a gloss or lip-safe shimmer pigment over it to make it work. It’s beautiful used that way, but it’s a lot of work to touch up throughout the day when I drink, eat, etc.
Reds! Although I do like them but feel it is too strong in me being pale. I feel like a super made up Geisha. I do have about 5-6 red lipsticks I’ll wear specially with a grey top or dress it looks nice and brings life to my face. I think from now on I’ll be only purchasing a tint instead of full color for everyday but to go out I do like a full lipstick. It’s a bit challenging finding the right shade in be it has to be a blue red. But reds are nice! Some lipsticks such as reds do make my hazel eyes pop brighter too. .
Red. Period.
I used to wear it in the 90s, with no other makeup except winged liner and mascara.
People would say, “Here come *DVa’s* lips…”
That’s not why I don’t now, I just dislike like the bold shades (pink, blue, purple, orange, burgundy…), they make me look older, and I’m no fan of red, in any form, anymore.
I, too, would like to wear Kale and Squid Ink more often… As well as the Fenty Beauty Midnight Wasabi — I find that one is a little easier to find excuses to wear since it isn’t as dark, and I actually have a lot of that shade of green in my belly dance costume wardrobe. Sometimes I just decide “To heck with it, I’m gonna have green lips for this performance!” (the things you can get away with as an amateur artist in a niche art form, LOL).
There’s also that one color from ColourPop, I think it’s called “Wet”? It’s a brown-leaning gun metal and it is gorgeous but the one time I tried it, I looked terrible. I’d like to be able to pull that color off but I haven’t figured out how.
Red, burgundy, wine: they look great on me with my dark hair and eyes, but I usually wear them to special occasions.
Coral: Love the shade to death but can’t pull it off. My skin is greyish-cool, coral makes me look jaundiced.
Bite Glace pencil (yeah the free Birthday gift one). It’s so gorgeous, and I always forget to wear it. I think it’s because the packaging is all gray and it just gets lost in my lippie cup. Most of my other lip pencils have their color showing on the butt end.
