We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Thank you for understanding!

Oils. I really like skin oils – my favourite is Youth to the People but I have them from Clarins, Vasanti, The Body Shop, Biossance and other companies and I just really like them all. Especially with the harsh cold and dry indoor air of Canadian winters, a good oil topped with a moisturizer just feels so hydrating and “nurturing”.
I’m late on this but have you tried or heard of LVNEA in up in Canada? April makes beautiful body serums / oils some people use on their faces and she makes a gorgeous facial serum called Larmes De Rose.
Moisturizers with hyaluronic acid, ceramides like CeraVe makes.
Lip balms, hand creams and oil/balm cleansers
I’m also a moisturizer freek! I am a sucker for all their unrealistic (sometimes) claims. I use retinols and live in the desert which really dries out my skin. Moisturizers that are rich enough for my skin usually make my makeup ball up or roll…..Any water, gel type usually ae not softening enough. I spend a fortune on moisturizers and guess I will always have my antenna up where moisturizers are concerned I have a drawer full but am always up to try new ones…..
When it comes to skincare I have my favorites and I refuse to try other things.
If I have a weakness, it’s sunscreen. I always want to try the newest formulas, see which has a more elegant texture, which last longer, have multiple types of application (lotion, stick, spray). I’m especially excited by body SPFs that can take me through long hikes and runs under the California sun.
I love all of the different tools. I doing have to do much by war of contour if I use some of my NuFace/FOREO items. The mask by Dennis Gross also keeps my skin clear and pristine. Which I thought was a total long shot. Don’t get me wrong I’ve got all of the usual brands: Farmacy, Tatcha, YTTP, Shani Darden, Erno Lazlo, Ole H… and many more. But I die for the luxury brands. Anything new (and old) from La Mer or Sisley and I’m sold. So, those two things. Tools and luxury.
Just about *anything* that has actives proven to work at reducing and preventing damage from, oh, things like: sun exposure, free radicals, pollution, age, etc. So, retinols, vitamin c, peptides, ceramides and certain very beneficial oils like Rosehip or Marula. And; as Tara from Tarababyz always says: “Don’t forget to wear sunscreen!”. Even though I’m medium and olive, I always do whenever I go outside in the daytime!
Ohhh this is probably a no no but I’m in love with Bliss Makeup Melt Skin Wipes. I buy them by the ton’s because they get all makeup off and I’ve become addicted to the scent. Nooo idea what it is but I love it. It makes me happy and my skin feels clean yet a teeny bit moisturized. I also have a weakness for MACs makeup wipes and their scent. I have pretty oily skin in the summer so I forgo anything but Mercier Candleglow Powder. I’m told I’m lucky.
Water creams. My skin loves them. I’m trying a Tatcha water cream Korean skin care dupe, Purito Deep Sea Pure Water Cream, $15 on Amazon. I also picked up a small Laniege water bank on sale, very nice, and I’m trying out Charlotte Tilbury’s eye cream, I quite like it. I love watermelon skin care, too! Glow Recipe watermelon sleep mask is so good.
Lip balm, cuticle cream/oil, neck cream
Any kind of facial tool. I have to research it and I usually end up buying it if the reviews are good. Gua Sha, facial rollers, facial toning devices, dermaflash, steamers, dermarollers. satin pillowcxase. I have at least 20 gadgets and make sure I use one a day and they make a huge difference. My 5 month old puppy is used to my routine and makes himself comfortable in the bathroom in the morning and has a little snooze while I do my routine and is rewarded with a nice walk afterward.
Sometimes I really can’t resist higher end toners with great reviews – especially if I think they will smell natural but relaxing to me and smooth my skin -like with green tea or ginseng.
I have a skincare bag and it contains a variety of products – items that I have bought on sale. I regularly check it to work out what products I need to stock up on – cleansers, daytime moisturisers, night creams, facial oils etc. Over the years I have developed a preference for particular brands and their products:
I have a weakness for facial oils (thank you Isabella Muse!) – and I have found that The Ordinary’s Argon Oil is a winner.
Another product I love is Weleda’s Skin Food – if you like rich, creamy moisturisers – this one is it.
Anything from Paula’s Choice. I’ve been a loyal customer since 2012 and I won’t use anything else. Once I tried it I never looked back. Amazing, fragrance products and a wide variety of products for all skin types and skin concerns.
Foundations. And I never seem to run out. My favorites are ones that perform well .. no transfer, blurring of pores, don’t gather in lines AND dry down enough they don’t require powder. Of course your moisturizer, skin care comes into play also.
I also love color especially eyeshadow palettes. Trying to rein that in a bit. I fell back the new Cliondhan palette but have resisted that Oden one (the mattes look unbelievable.
Sorry I didn’t see the skin care part of the question. I use toner, essence moisturizer and eye cream. Some of my foundations do have skin care. Lol
All!
If I could afford to I’d buy a lot of gadgets, for now I have to remember to use the ones I have.
I love serums, I use a couple every day, I love retinols, but am not sure they actually do anything, unfortunately we can’t get Tretinoin here, some day I’ll have to find out why.
I like moisturizers that are super hydrating, but not oily as I have combination to oily skin. That said, some days I love to use a nice oil over my moisturizer, even though my skin is oily it can feel dry, weird, right?
I can’t live without lip balms or hand creams. I’m back using cuticle oils, nothing seems to help my peeling brittle dry nails, so I decided to give the oils a chance again, not sure I love this though.
And I love a good rich body lotion or cream as the skin on my legs is very dry.
I did say all, didn’t I? 🙂
Essences. The wetter and juicier the better. I have perplexingly dry skin (seriously, does it even make ANY oil??) and often stack 2-4 “moist water steps” on my bare skin before sealing it in with more occlusive moisturizers. Luckily – for now, anyway – those products aren’t usually terribly expensive. I can’t handle a lot of the buzzword ingredients like vit c, fruit extracts, acids, tons of niacinimide, etc… which is making it slightly more difficult to find plainer options, but still, favorite step, best step, and I’ll always have a handful in rotation at any given time.
I’d say runner up is sunscreen. If I could use silicones on my skin I’d try quite a bit more of them to find the “perfect” one, but there’s a lot less variety to sample when you eliminate silicones, fragrance, vitamin c, orange oil for some mystery reason, other volatile essential oils that definitely don’t belong in a formulation meant to lessen uv radiation, etc.
You know what I want to see next? A return to reason. A return to science-based skin care. A return to just giving me exactly what I need in a product – not what you think you can sell me with some word salad and pink labeling.
