NOT MATTE!!!! I wish there was more of a push to return to formulas like MAC Amplified Cream – they are fairly long-wearing for something that is also pretty hydrating and comfortable to wear. Many years ago, when all those long wearing lipsticks and stains became popular, Clarins has a long-wearing lipstick formula that was also really hydrating and not at all drying. It was called Rouge Prodige and it was SO excellent. It was also around for a very, very short time (typical for anything I love, NOT that I’m BITTER or anything!).
Agree with you about MAC’s Amplified Cream. I also would love to see the Liptensity formula brought back.
Apparently, Clarins developed the Jolie Rouge lipstick formula for the late Queen’s coronation waaay back in the early 1950’s. The brand also formulated their Everlasting foundation formula for the same event. The brand only sold them in England for a long time till they released them into the Australian, US, Canadian market……
Having had some of these lipsticks myself, they are totally excellent and I do miss them. Cinnamon Spice was my favourite and I bought some coral shades for my DIL – who absolutely adored them too.
And I totally agree with you re MATTE lipsticks!
That’s interesting, Genevieve. I always thought that the Queen (when she was younger) wore Cyclax cosmetics because I remember, as a quite young girl, getting one of their lippies and it had the Royal Warrant on it. The Jolie Rouge lipstick formula is still around, so far as I know, but not Rouge Prodige, which was just excellent.. And I think the Everlasting foundation (unless I’m confusing it with Illusion) is still around but has – like SO MANY things – been reformulated badly, to the disappointment of so many loyal users from the past.
I knew you’d feel exactly the same about matte lipsticks. Looks like we’re not the only ones!
Definitely finishes with more shimmer or shine. I’m so sick of mattes, not that I have ever purchased even one matte lipstick. In my opinion, it doesn’t look good on anyone, just like high-waisted jeans lol. I hate those too.
Metallic; I know it’s not a popular finish but like, it’s pretty much the same thing when you layer a sparkly gloss but without that hassle.
Hydrating satin-to-semi-matte lip tints in lipstick form in neutral-to-cool hues beyond bubblegum pink and wine.
Ever since you got me on the luminous lipstick train…agreed!
Sheer matte or sheer satin.
Givenchy Sheer Matte formulas for the win!🙌
Just give me back Pat McGrath LuxeTrance Lipsticks and I’ll be a happy camper! I’m a sucker for a creamy, satin or cream finish lipstick with full opacity and excellent lasting power (3½-5 hours minimum!).
I would love to see a return of MAC’s Liptensity formula. It had the perfect amount of shine, was lip-hugging and very creamy and lasted 4 to 5 hours. I think that came out right around when NARS Audacious formula came out and I find the formula is very similar. NARS is a bit more drying for me, though.
I wish for MORE creamy, hydrating lipsticks in a glossy kind of finish in a wide array of bronzy, russet shades. No more mattes, sheer lip glosses, lip stains etc etc.
I love a colour that’s sheer but also dark… I’m thinking of the old Blotted Lips by Colourpop. Most tinted balms are pink or red, but occasionally you’ll find a slightly glossy, balm-feeling stain that you can swipe on without a mirror in a deep blackberry or violet. What Clinique’s Black Honey should be but isn’t quite.
You should try the Lawless balm. They have a whole range of colors and they certainly apply color and can leave behind a stain. They last pretty long when I wear them, too. They have few darker ones in there, too. They are like the Dior ones but so much better re: pigment. Also, the Charlotte Tilbury and Makeup by Mario both have really good ones for that, too!
Love a creamy lipstick like MAC Amplified or Lancome Absolu cremes.
Metallics and shimmers for sure! It seems like every new lipstick drop now is matte, satin, or sheer in the same color range with no shimmer to jazz things up. It’s a bit boring!
Anything that doesn’t fill in lip lines and would be smooth and last all day (without drying). I know, we all want this and I’m dreaming, but that’s what I think would be popular if it existed, LOL!
