What is your most used nail color this spring?

Nada thing! Since I gave up the idea (mostly) of reviewing nail polish, I haven’t been as actively testing it.

Nail enamel is such an inexpensive way to express your individuality and adapt to the seasonal palette. That being said, I am a nurse so I can only wear it on my fingers on the weekend!! My favorites this spring are China Glaze “Barre Hopping” (beautiful lilac creme) and Zoya Marley ( lovely pale lavender with pearl)

I tested a color a week (or tried to…) in 2017 and I haven’t painted my nails at all this year. My nails were a mess from over-use of remover with acetone in it They’re finally strong and healthy again and I’ve started missing color so I might actually paint them tonight 🙂 I have a pretty sagey green I’ve been wanting to try, seems nice for “Early spring, still feels like winter.”

Whatever strikes my fancy! And that I can bear to look at for a good 7 to 12 days, as I mostly use longer wearing nail polishes. Yesterday, I applied 2 coats of Essie’s To Have And To Gold because it goes with pretty much anything? It’s a SUPER metallic bronzey champagne. Not my usual springtime shade, though. (I almost wore a lavender purple creme instead, kinda wish I had)

I never wear nail polish but my sister is an avid ritualist at painting her nails. She manages a warehouse 50+ hours a week and she’s fallen in love with Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure. She says it’s like nail polish for construction workers because of how tough and chip-resistant it is; her go-to is the shade ‘Pat on the Black’, a deep blackened burgundy. It’s opaque in one coat (she always does two for extra longevity) and lasts through warehouse abuse for over a week.

BTW: Can you tell what we usually talk about around our house? Lol

My most used are from Gelish, one is called What’s your poinsettia, and it really is a beautiful deep sparkly Wonder Woman red. The other one is I’m so hot, and is a deep sparkly elegant burgundy, and It looks like a dupe for Chanel Malice polish. Both are the colors that have lasted me the longest, no matter what I do, gardening, clean the house, or treat patients, they do not chip, peel or break.

Right now I have ILNP Birthday Suit on my nails (a beautifully creamy nude-pink). During this period, when it’s still cold outside (next week we will have snow), it’s either this one or ILNP Daisy Jane.
When spring comes for real, I love Picture Polish in Spring on my nails and toes. As nail polish remover, I’ve been using the acetone-free one by Mineral Fusion or the Soy Polish Remover by Pure Anada. (non-toxic, can be used by pregnant or nursing mothers).

I am not a big nail polish person probably because of nursing for 40+ years and my cuticles are terrible. When your hands are in water so many hours per day it takes a toll on your nails and cuticles. I was not allowed to wear nail polish or to have artificial nails while nursing. I also went through a period of time where I was a cuticle biter. I have broken myself of that habit and about 3 months ago started a nail and hair vitamin so I may start paying more attention to my nails. I do use one of the dead sea sponges to buff my nails and that brings a high gloss to them, which I like.

Stick to doing your toenails — I highly recommend it. I stopped putting polish on my fingernails about 15 years ago and I’m happier for it because I do so much rough stuff with my hands that I couldn’t keep polish in one piece for longer than a day. Besides, when it’s on your toes, it’s really just for you, and you can get away with saucier or more daring choices. 🙂

Essie gel polish in Touch Up for several months now. It’s a perfect mauve-pink that goes with everything and really suits my coloring.

Years ago I only used makeup and nail colors that were found on my body…..pale pinks, skintone, brown (for my hair). BORING! I hit 45 a few years ago and now am into fun. I love Smith and Cult, and Exit the Void is a lovely blue/purple bright color. Fantastic on toes. It makes me happy. Butter London’s Trout Pout is a favorite.

I’ve bought much more and go crazy with colors. The only ones I avoid are greens and yellows. Too corpse-like for me.

Had to go look up Smith & Cult — their Kings & Thieves nail polish looks like something I might eventually need. 🙂

What do you think of the quality? I usually avoid buying OPI unless it’s on sale, and this stuff is twice the price (though I’ve been known to happily pay more than OPI for indie polishes).

The quality is good…I’m usually too lazy to do base and top coat and it lasts well. I have the one you mentioned in my Ebay store. If interested, I could give you a deal. I’m moving so I am trying to unload items now.

OPI is off/on for me, some colors are great, some chip before I can walk five feet. Butter London is really good too.

Likewise Christine – nothing! I only do my nails for special occasions and I just use a clear polish. I use Clinique’s repair and rescue nail product that keeps my nails strong and healthy.
I had so much trouble with the nail polish chipping and not smudging etc that I just gave up.
With my grandchildren over so often, I always have my hands in water.
With my toes, I have painted them a rosy bronze from China Glaze.

Painting my nails is something I almost always do every day after I finish my skin care routine. I rarely paint the same color on twice in a month. Painting my nails is like a type of pre-bedtime wind down or even meditation for me – I find it very relaxing and it makes me stupidly happy, in a calm ‘inner smile’ kind of way. So of course I have more nail polish than any sane woman should ever have. I wore ILNP’s “Salem” for three days straight I loved it so much, but right now I’m wearing Starrily’s “Albert Elfstein”. I’m expecting an order of the Real Magic series of color shifting toppers from ILNP any day now (*excite!*) and am thinking of putting “Scarlet” from that series over Albert Elfstein at some point, but for tonight’s polish wind-down I’ve got Crow’s Toes “Nifelheim” sitting on my polish mat waiting for me to get offline.

I just remembered I also have some Julep polish coming. They’re going to need a HazMat team to clear the polish out of this place when I’m gone. lol

I’m wearing Chanel Neopolis spring/summer 2018, Giallo Napoli, an intense primary yellow hue. It perfectly matches Easter!!

Believe it or not, black. Black usually topped with something fun like a scattered holo taco, but black none the less.

I just wear black polish a lot. In fact, it’s my most used shade. I just like how it looks on the nail.

I change out my nail polish weekly, and do something different color- and finish-wise every time (and I usually use at least 4 different polishes pulled from 4 different color families every time), so I can’t speak to color; however, I’ve been gravitating toward polishes with duochome effects and saturated colors with strong sparkle that’s the same color as the base.

I’ve been on a nudes/neutrals kick. Currently wearing Chanel Frenzy, also dusting of Deborah Lippmann’s Dirty Little Secret, Rescue Beauty Lounge Plie, etc. I’m sure that will change though, I have A LOT of colors to play with and change my polish quite often!
