What is your least favorite metallic eyeshadow formula?

Urban Decay’s metallic eyeshadow is soooo weak now, even compared to their older formulas, but especially compared to most brand’s formulations these days.

Anything flaky (Dior has or perhaps had a Champagne color that I really like, but I don’t care for the flakes; and so do many high-en and low-end brands). I’m older, so the flaky ones tend to crease on me. Besides, who likes fallout (which the flaky shadows tend to do).

I’m 43 and much prefer a smooth metallic that isn’t glittery, sparkly or flaky for the same reasons; I hate fallout and chunky formulas either add or enhance lid texture. Sydney Grace and Give Me Glow metallics are some of my favorites but to avoid fallout although, I use cream and liquid metallics in stick, pot or tube/doe foot form more often than powder

Those Urban Decay glitter-bombs like Midnight Cowboy Rides Again and so many more…. Maui Wowie is SUCH a stunner of a colour but virtually impossible to wear unless you don’t mind or actually LIKE glitter fallout on your cheeks (maybe even your nose!). I have it in a palette and it was heart-breaker so when they released a “new and improved” single, I bought it. “New and improved” – HA! It’s STILL an unwearable glitter nightmare and now I’ve got TWO pans of it!

Again, I am not sure I have enough experience with newer formula’s to make a comment but I do know that on my older eyelids, it is all about the look after application since some really highlight the texture on my lids and others go down so smooth that they only really highlight the color. I basically just cannot do chunky so many just don’t work. I do recollect that I use to buy and love the Stila liquid shadows that were quite metallic and I don’t think I would like that formula now. They always applied a bit wonky but because the color was so nice and they were the first that really were successful at a liquid formula that you could even get to stay on your lids, they were all the rage.

Smashbox. They haven’t updated their shadow formulas in at least 5 years and while the mattes aren’t bad, their shimmers/metallics are more like satins, with very little shine, even when wet. I love their Punked CoverShot, it’s a great travel palette, but I repurchased it a few months ago and the formulas are the same as the one I bought in 2017

I don’t think I have any really poor metallic shades in my collection. Initially some of Pixi Beauty’s Reflex Light shades that were metallic/foiled werre a bit prone to fallout, but I used a dampened brush. After awhile they toned down and now are lovely to apply.
