J.Lo’s Deseo. It has a beachy air to it, but it’s also a bit heavy. Great for days when I miss summer! I just got a deluxe sample of Nest’s Indigo, and I’m excited to use that this winter as well.

I still really like Jo Malone’s Wood Sage & Sea Salt, but I went over to their counter a few months ago and got the holiday deluxe size set of their colognes to try out, and they also gave me a bunch of samples, so I’ve been branching out a bit. I like layering their Blackberry & Bay scent under Wood Sage & Sea Salt, and I LOVE the new Mimosa & Cardamom scent for the Autumn/Winter months. I like a bunch from there at the moment, but Mimosa & Cardamom is the most “holiday” scented to me, and I always get compliments when I wear it.

I would have to say that it’s still Absinthe by Christian LaCroix x Avon! However, now that I’ve tried the YSL Black Opium sample, I am really wowed by it! Both of these fragrances are rather unusual in scent, but I find their weirdness comforting. I do wish I could get another bottle of Absinthe, though!

I feel like a simpleton when i say Elizabeth & James (black) roller ball. I know that others who talk in notes, florals, spices, etc. would consider this is a pedestrian choice but i really like it….

Tom Ford Shanghai Lily (reminds me of vintage Opium), Chanel Allure Sensuelle parfum, Coco Noir parfum, Coromandel, Serge Lutens Fille en Aiguilles, vintage Organza Indecence layered with Vanille Incensee, Boyfriend, Cartier Baiser du Dragon, and Baiser Vole Essence. I can’t narrow it down to just one!

YSL Black Opium
I received a sample of it in one of those little cards Sephora sent when they did the VIB sales last month and I just tore them all open at once and smelled them, I figured I would hate them all.
Soon as I breathed in Black Opium I was in love, and I bought it during the VIB event.

I’m really loving Like This by Etat Libre d’Orange. It’s a little gingerbread-y and very warm and sweet, but subtle and grown up enough that it doesn’t evoke a Glade seasonal plug-in.

Fave perfume oil, In Templum Dei by Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab. Sadly LE, but it’s a lovely woody incense.

Fave mainstream perfume, Myrrhe Impériale by Armani Privée. Not LE, but the most expensive beauty-related item I have ever purchased! But I love it so much. It’s like a warm, sexy hug.

Tocca Beauty’s Giulietta has become my comfort fragrance so I’ll wear it all year long. For date nights, or even just cuddle-by-the- fire nights, I wear Chanel’s Allure. Other than those two, I’ll try to use Paris, Sun Moon Stars, and Eternity before they change into something undesirable.

I love winter fragrances and rotate between quite a few. I especially li Guerlain’s Mitsouko, Shalimar, and at Christmas, their discontinued (sob) Aqua Allegoria Winter Delice. I do like Angel at Christmas as well. I also really love Tom Ford Tobacco Vanilla, cozy and warm. Chanel Bois de Isles is great, and I also love the discontinued (another sob) L’Occitane Ambre. Every once in awhile they have some available and I grab it up and use it sparingly. I love Stella by Stella McCartney, with it’s lovely amber and rose. And yes, I will admit that I also like Clinique’s Aromatic Elixir (and the lighter White version) along with Estee Lauder’s Youth Dew, but it’s got to be the oil. I also buy oils from some small businesses like Haus of Gloi, Solstice Scents, and Alkemia (their Stars Falling on Solstice is a great holiday fragrance). There are probably more fragrances that I’m forgetting – what can I say, I love fragrances.

Bois des Iles has been my favorite for years now. I have a bottle of the extrait and I love it layered with the EDT. More recently, I’ve been switching this up with Terry de Gunzberg Ombre Mercure and Bond I Love NY for All.

Aerin’s Amber Musk! It really warms me up and helps me brave the world on a cold Winter day. I can’t explain it but wearing it makes me feel so cozy.

By the way Christine I really want to commend you on what you do. Your reviews are awesome reads (I don’t buy any makeup without checking your reviews first!) and also everyone’s comments on the daily discussion topics have given me a ton of inspiration (and a lengthy shopping list)! I’ve been reading your blog for a while now and am finally dropping a note. Thanks for all you do 🙂

My favorite winter fragrances are Lolita Lempicka & Laura Biagiotti’s Roma. I love the spiciness of Lolita Lempicka in the winter because it reminds of all the gingerbread & pfeffernusse & other spicy treats of winter holidays. Although it is not a gourmand, there is something warming about Roma’s amber-y vanilla, sandalwood & myrrh base that reminds me of hot cocoa, cozy sweaters, & nights by a warm hearth.

In the UK cold, grey winter I prefer comfort scents like Hypnotic Poison, Serge Lutens Un Bois Vanille, Etat Libre’s Romantique and for everyday ambery warmth the very bargainous Madonna Naked. On Xmas eve I always wear a precious drop of a discontinued Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Exalting – it’s Midnight Mass in a bottle! Xmas day I always wear Cinnabar – it was my ‘signature’ in the 80s and still deserves it’s place in my wardrobe.

I’m boring scent wise, as I wear Donna Karan Cashmere Mist all year round, but in the winter I usually switch off with Victoria’s Secret Dream Angel’s Divine which is heavier and has more staying power.
