What is your favorite makeup collection of all time?

What is your favorite makeup collection of all time? Chanel Fall 2002? A MAC collab?

MAC Moonbathe is the first one to come to mind, because it was a collection that just worked for me. The theme, aesthetic, colors, quality — all fantastic.

MAC Cult Of Cherry. So many unique shades that I haven’t seen done before, before or since it came out. Especially Rich and Ripe! Also perhaps the Fafi and Heatherette collections, which were both really awesome sets.

I’m probably dating myself here, but MAC Femme Noir is probably my all-time favourite. It was just awesome, so many of my favourite eye shadows came from that one.

Sadly since I’ve been into makeup like this there hasn’t been anything too exciting…some fun things sure, but nothing that really pumped me up or I wanted everything of.

Kathrina Avatar

I absolutely loved the Mickey Contractor collection. From this one I got my favourite fluidlines (Siahi and Ivy) and my favourite MLBB lipstick (Mehr).

Another one that comes to my mind is the Naughty Nauticals collection which was launched in 2008. I’ve never purchased as many items (8) from any other collection so far.

mac matte2 and mattene (the collections were kind of conjunctional). i love matte makeup, the textures and colours of the lipsticks and eyeshadows were beautiful. a shame they discontinued nearly everything!

OMG DON’T DO THAT TO ME!! ONLY ONE?!?!? ok I’m going for two. Moonbathe and Lure. They harked back to a time when there seemed to be a singular cohesive ideal tying the entire collection together without any abstract anomalies… The good old days…

Lilly Avatar

MAC To the Beach… I got almost the whole collection in a whim… Apart from that one, I suppose almost every single collection that Givenchy has came out with, but probably my favourite out of all of them is their Holiday 2009 collection, which was just plain beautiful, and so feminine… I only buy makeup from collections, barely any permanent lines, and right now I am drooling over Les Aquarelles de Chanel, and I honestly am hoping to put my paws on those beauties…

My favorite make up collection of all time, is the MAC Hello Kitty. It was the first one that came to mind. I wish MAC would come out with another HK collection! Or maybe not really, cause I’d go broke. Lol

Steph Avatar

Definitely the MAC Venomous Villains collection…. I got a little bit of everything from the collection (day looks/night looks) and the theme was unbelievable. I literally was looking at the swatches on a daily basis and debating on what I would NOT buy. lol

MAC Fabulous Felines : an amazing collection, wide range of colors, and I’m such a cat lady 🙂 It also gave us the Superslick liners which are now my fave liquid liners!

As far as concept goes I loved Chanel’s Les Noirs. Remember those 3 almost black lipsticks (Obscure, Maniac and Hysteria)? I think it was in 2009. Ok, I practically never wore those things but they were shocking and I like that. Fabulous e/s palette. The collection also included 3 fantastic nail polishes. A dark nail is easier to pull and I can’t wait to wear them again. And I’m sure I will remember “surf, baby!” in the future: originality in concept and that Gold Go-lightly compact thing 🙂

Color-wise, I can’t really remember a makeup collection that fitted me perfectly, each and every item. However, I must mention OPI’s Russian Collection, if that counts: beautiful color range (Russian Navy being imho the best blue of all times) and beautiful concept at the same time.

I don’t usually follow collections, favoring permanant items I know will be around when I run out. But I do have to say the Mac Venomous Villians collection is what got me to become makeup obsessed. Thanks disney! Prior to that I liked makeup but that collection made me start collecting makeup and following blogs and YT. Its funny because I’ve now swapped everything I have from that collection except my cruela carbon(told you I prefer permanant) but that’s why I’m here so that’s why its my favorite!

Katie Avatar

MAC Spring Color Forecast comes to mind. But really there are usually only bits and pieces from collections I like. I don’t think I’ve ever bought an entire collection.

Gillian (AKA Munchy) Avatar

MAC’s heatherette. There were just so many great high quality formulas and colors and I wish they would re-release more of them again. The packaging was fun too. My all time favorites were the dual edged eye pencils, Pink Pearl Pigment, Lollypop Loving, Hollywood nights and their trio I.

Helena Avatar

They tend to be the ones I’ve missed out on… MAC’s Moonbathe, Balloonacy, Makeup Art Cosmetics, Neo Sci-Fi, etc. But the one that I’m the saddest to have not been around for is Alexander McQueen. He was (and still is) my favorite designer, and that runway show was just…magical. Both the ready-to-wear and makeup collections were spectacular (I don’t care if those shadows were chalky!). I wish I could go back in time with a bag of cash to a MAC store and buy two of every piece of the collection.
I can’t think of any other brands’ collections, because MAC is unprecedented in the amount of fanfare they create for their new releases, ha ha :p

Rayna Avatar

Tie between Givency summer ’10 (my HG bronzer) and Mac Venomous Villians (my HG lipstick). Luckily they have repromoted my lipstick so I was able to get a back up but I seriously miss that bronzer!

Saffy Avatar

I don’t pay that much attention to collections – I focus on the individual shades – but overall I really liked the Nars fall 2010 collection because it introduced me to my HG blush. But I did love the Mac Venomous Villains collection, too.

Kathy Avatar

With MAC, my answer is always “the next one.” Favorite of all time, other than MAC, is Urban Decay’s 15th Anniversary items. The liner and shadow sets are quite nice and make me want to buy multiples – my criteria for a favorite collection is one that virtually forces me to buy spares of everything.

jan Avatar

hello kitty in terms of limited edition collections and in terms of youtubes collection videos, I would have to say Xsparkage, I would love to have her collection of makeup and brushes:)

Hooked, Bait and Lure from 2006! I worked at Nordstrom at the time and dropped my paycheck on it. Being a collector I regret B2M my pretty E/S containers. ACW had Sea Myth and another eyeshadow from the collection available recently and I am still kicking myself for not biting the bullet and paying the somewhat exorbitant price. Naughty Nauticals & Rockocco were also favorites. I have meted out my beloved Rockocco lipstick over these many moons waiting for a repromote! OH and way back in the day with the gorgeous matte lip introduction, when Ruby Woo was born and that gorgeous Bronx lipstick and the deep Verushka AND the Snake one with the fabulous
duochrome nail polishes…I’m getting slightly hysterical here recalling my past MAC affairs de coeur

Guerlain’s Cherry Blossom collection and Les Ors collection. Beautiful! My standard for spring and winter, respectively. They’re perfect for my olive asian skin and brown eyes. I hope Guerlain comes out with more collections like those.

Jules Avatar

Definitely liberty of London. It got me into mac collections because of the awesome special packaging! I ended up eBaying so many things though because they sold out before I could afford them!

MAKE-UP Forever! Best blush!!
Urban Decay & Lorac eyeshadow
MAKE-UP Forever concealer
MAKE-UP Forever Lip Palette
This is my favorite combo!!

beachgal Avatar

I am way too old to call this one. Zero idea. Also no input even if I limited it to the last 10 yrs. I typically don’t go for entire collections. I like pieces and generally prefer if they are not Ltd Ed. If I find I want to buy it – I want to be able to get another down the road if I still really love it.

Nicole Avatar

My favourite makeup collection of all time is MAC Smoke Signals. I love the theme and especially the quads. Dark eyes and nude lips, just love it.

amanda Avatar

first that came to mind was MAC barbie.. it is the collection that initially got me into MAC, and high end makeup in general! I saw the girls being barbied up for the fanfare part of it, and I bought Springtime Skipper-the colour was so beautiful on me. I used it ALL. Juxt isnt even close, and I haven’t found a dupe. However, that isnt really a collection that i purchased from – i didnt have the cash then, and i couldnt justify it [ha! if i could have only known how Id be a few years later..] But in reality, collections become a favourite after they have a single amazing product, such as Quite Cute with Candy Yum Yum, or Peacocky with Woo Me and Enchantee.

BUT if we’re going by which collection I actually bought the most from, it’d be Wonder Woman, which I loved-I loved the packaging so much I cut out the pictures, kept the boxes, and I have never purchased so much of a collection – 10! and it would have been 12 if i didnt already have Reflects Pearl and Russian Red] I really liked WW even though many didnt like it so much.. I loved it, especially the theme, the packaging, etc. The only other packaging I ever loved as much was the Tartan Tale plaid boxes-i wanted allllll the tins!

Honourable mention to Cham Pale, which had quite a few pretties, plus it introduced me to my first lipgelee, and fave, Luxure <3

Maggie Avatar

Venomous Villains FTW! I use something from that collection at least a couple times a week. Oh So Fair is my favorite blush ever.

To The Beach was also amazing, though. If I were stuck on a desert island with only one eyeshadow for the rest of my life, it would definitely be Sweet and Punchy <3

Mariella Avatar

I’m fairly new to makeup collections and my makeup obsession is only a few years old. So my sense of collections doesn’t go back that far. But in terms of the whole image and fiction it portrayed (the photos, names of products, the fictional story behind the collection) MAC’s Tartan Tales has to be my fave. Who wouldn’t love the names – Lady’s Prance, Glamora Castle, My Highland Honey, Moonlight Night – and the romantic photos? It was a great notion. But in terms of stuff that is really first rate, I’d have to say the Peacocky Collection – the Mega Metal shadows from that are among my fave items EVER.

Oh- this is really a hard question. So many collections to love and appreciate. Mac Spring Color Forecast was one that I really loved. Most recently, I loved the YSL Midnight Garden collection. I have some eyeshadows, lippies and blushes on their way to me right now. I can’t wait to receive them. Moving forward I am looking forward to the Mac Posh Paradise and Styledriven collections. My makeup obsession continues to thrive, it never ends.

Monica Avatar

Definitely MAC Style Black. I absolutely love dark/smokey makeup and this entire collection was nothing but. Young Punk is my favorite eyeshadow ever, and I really wish I would have gotten backups of it. I’m down to my last bit of Blackfire glimmerglass and I barely wanna touch it cause I don’t have a backup of that either =(.

Liz Avatar

Oooh, that’s a tough one! The Dior lace collection comes to mind, Spring 2010 maybe? As for MAC, the list would be long, and I couldn’t pick a favourite. Colour Crafted, Sugarsweet, Venomous Villains, Spring Colour Forecast, Naughty Nauticals…

Kers Avatar

MAC Tartan Tale, it was a great way to buy pigments and I adored the packaging and promo images.

I also have to say OPI Pirates of the. caribbean – but only for skulls & glossbones.

Erin Avatar

I think MAC Allure or MAC for Raquel Welsch (so many pretty corals!)… or MAC Sweetiecake… I was a little more obsessed around these collections than I am now 😉

I also ADORED the OPI Burlesque collection – I bought 11 out of the 12 polishes. Glitters and glowy shimmers? yes please!

Courtney Avatar

MAC Venomous Villains. I bought soooooo much stuff from there. I also really adore Style Black. That’s the collection that got me into MAC in the first place.

ak Avatar

There have been a few I really loved but the very best when it comes to the makeup colors, formulations, etc. for me was without a doubt the Mickey Contractor for MAC collection by MAC. Now THAT was a whole collection that I wish MAC would put on replay each year sort of like that movie Groundhog’s Day!
