Depends on how hot it is outside! I will likely keep wearing Fresh Life until we begin to cool down into the 80’s. Then, I’ll start rocking my Tom Ford Black Orchid or Christian LaCroix Absinthe. Those are my 2 favorite cooler weather fragrances, both a bit heavy for 106° days….like today. Dying for cooler fall-like temps!

Nancy, do you live on the surface on the sun? I live in Ireland and we would get maybe 14C today and people were still walking round in shorts today. A big temperature for us is 22C summer or winter really!

My favorite specifically for fall (and winter) is Jo Malone’s Mimosa & Cardamom. It’s earthy and spicy and not overly heavy yet comfortingly warm. It’s one of those scents that just reminds me of mulled apple cider, hot tea, a comfy couch with a book and rain outside.

My “I’m not sure what to wear”/default scent is Jo Malone’s Wood Sage & Sea Salt which is a lot fresher and lighter.

I also have my eye on their Black Cedarwood & Juniper, which is like a darker, woodsier version of WS&SS, and the newest one, Basil & Neroli, which is very zingy and citrusy and fresh.

Basically I am a Jo Malone junkie… I’ll probably buy their Cologne Intense mini set if they release it this year, as I got the regular Cologne mini set last year.

I’m also a Jo Malone junkie! One of my new favorite blends is Wood Sage & Sea Salt as a base with Dark Amber & Ginger Lily on top. It’s definitely autumn-appropriate, but I like to wear it all year long. Also, I’ll use Nutmeg & Ginger to warm up my favorite scent (Nectarine Blossom & Honey) during the cooler months. I’m considering adding Basil & Neroli to my vast collection; it blends well with WS&SS and with English Pear & Freesia.

I LOVE Jo Malone! I recently bought their Limited Edition mini set for Norsdtrom’s Anniversary and that’s what I’m using. I either mix and match or wear them on their own. I can’t pick, I love them all. My first one was Orange Blossom, and then i kept buying the mini sets.

I think the thing that really blows me away about Jo Malone is that they are the only brand that has consistently put out product that is above par, without exception. Even more pricey brands like Tom Ford have had plenty of so-so products, but with Jo Malone it’s the one luxury level brand I feel like I’m at least coming closer to getting my money’s worth.

I loved Vanilla & Anise, so bummed when it was discontinued. I went off Jo Malone a bit from there, couldn’t crack the code which scents are LE (and I avoid LEs to avoid heartbreak when a favorite is discontinued) and which are permanent. Do you have any guidance?

Anne Avatar

I think the Vanilla & Anise one was kind of a freak incident of discontinuing a permanent product. Apparently it wasn’t selling as well as the other ones and they wanted to put out some new permanent ones so they “retired” it, whatever that means. It still sucks. As for the LE ones, it seems like the Jo Malone standard line is permanent except in those rare cases like V&A, and the LE ones are pretty specifically marketed that way, like the Herb Garden collection, Nashi Blossom, and the upcoming holiday scent, Orange Bitters. Otherwise they’re permanent unless there’s a shakeup in the lineup, which apparently is something you can tell a bit in advance in terms of fragrance as they usually stop selling the body lotion and other products before the fragrance. Hope that helps, even if I couldn’t give a definitive answer!

I have one fragrance I love and wear all the time, all seasons — Atelier Cologne, Mandarine Glaciale.

In Paris, I chanced upon their “flagship” store that was in our neighborhood. The most charming, tiny (by US standards) perfume shop you can imagine. Tile floor, carved wooden shelves — the store itself dated back to the 1800s. They only sold Atelier perfumes. No other lines at all. 🙂

I recently got a sample of Tom Ford’s Noir Pour Femme, and I used it up. I liked it a lot. It takes the orange notes I love in perfume (see above :)), musks them up, and adds some woodiness. It would be great for fall.

Lory Avatar

I actually liked it a lot too. I received a sample from a purchase from Sephora and I was hesitant to use it, but then when I did, I regretted not using it earlier. Beautiful cent. I am a Jo Malone junkie, but I have the Mandarine Glaciale on my list and the holidays are coming, so I’ll be waiting for deals 😉

“Cape of Good Hope” has been my cold weather fragrance for several years now; it’s from Anthropologie and I think it’s part of an exclusive line. I know that sounds lame but it smells really good! Each of the perfumes were based on a location and a tea from that place. It’s a rich and sweet – I’m on my second bottle. Should last me for a good long time but I think it’s discontinued now.

Wendie Avatar

I think you’d like Maison Francis Kurkdijan Aqua Vitae Forte but it’s super expensive. You might be able to get samples. Byredo Gypsy Water is another interesting one, but it can be cloying.

AB Avatar

Monika, have you looked at Fragrantica.com? They have hundreds, maybe thousands, of fragrance reviews and many ways to search them including, I think, by note.

Monika Avatar

Thank you AB for your answer. I know fragrantica.com, I`m searching on it right now by note. :))) Still, it’s difficult (for me anyway) find the scent I imagined. I think I’ll buy a sample of Songe d’un Bois d’Ete Guerlain and 01 Sunda Odin.

I’ve worn the Elizabeth and James Nirvana Black and White mixed or just Black and Jimmy Choo Illict or the original Jimmy Choo fragrance in the fall.Im planning on trying the Nirvana Bourbon and Nirvana Rose this fall.I am also in love with all of the Derek Lam 10 Crosby perfumes I got a sampler and I’ve worn every fragrance in the set at least once.Im trying to narrow down and decide which ones I want to purchase in fullsize so far Blackout is my favorite.

DahmerDoll Avatar

I like to change it up, instead of wearing the same one every day. My fall favorites are Viktor&Rolf Flowerbomb, Lolila Lempika Midnight Couture Black, Bobbi Brown Beach, and Laura Mercier Citrine. I look forward to wearing Flowerbomb all year!

Gorgeous taste! I love Mitsouko, I once made the cardinal sin of wearing in to the workplace and this woman, who wasn’t allergic nor sensitive was so appallingly rude about it. This coming from a lass who bathed in Britney Spears fragrance, and everyone in the office was quite mannerly about it. Sometimes resting bitch face can be to ones advantage….

I love Back to Black in the winter though . It smells so good under cashmere sweaters. I wear By Killian Carnal Flower in the fall and winter. Botrytis by Ginestet is my favorite fall fragrance. Honey, fruits and white flowers.

I used to wear perfumes but hubby was too sensitive. Even strong scents in sample skincare catches him off guard. I’ve developed similar sensitivities, so choose not to wear any. (I do have a small selection tucked away: I will always love you, CK Dune).

I think it will be Jo Malone rare tea in Midnight Black or Chantecaille Kalimantan. They’re spicy scents perfect for cooler weather – not that we’ll have that until November or so. The new Eluzabetg and James Bourbon is beautiful too.

Cronezilla Avatar

I am a ROSE fragrance fanatic, so my favorites of these for cooler weather is Keiko Mercheri’s “Attar des Roses” (a warm, honeyed rose) or Serge Lutens “La Fille de Berlin” (a deep, intense, jammy tea rose). Fall is
also when I start reaching for the cozier, sweetly inviting amber and incense scents in my collection, especially for wearing at night.

I like a strong fragrance year round. In fall/winter I really love SpiceBomb. Yes I know it’s a man’s fragrance but I love it. Little goes a long way. Just Love It!!

Nati Avatar

Last year by the transition from summer to Fall I loved wearing D&G L’Imperatrice and then switch to Lancôme La vie est belle. This year I’m still full on Bvlgari Omnia Crystalline, because the weather is so warm, and that scent is just summer in a bottle to me.

Narciso Rodriguez for Her – I own both the Parfum and the toilette and love them. I dont pay much attention to seasons as far as scents and wear them both year round.

Gee I have so many where do I start?! I am a frag monster 🙂
I am thinking some favs will be SL La fille de Berlin…FM Portrait of a lady and Diors midnight poison…Mmmm looking forward to this fall’s fragrance wardrobe..

I love heavier scents for fall/winter like Alaia, Versace Eros Pour Femme, and I recently purchased Robert Piguet Fracas, which I’m very excited about. For daytime, I like sweeter scents like Lolita Lempicka (the original fragrance) and Hanae Mori.

Bibi Avatar

Pink Sugar, Lolitia Lempicka (original), and Laura Biagiotti’s Roma for women.
Pink Sugar in October because all that cotton candy reminds me of Halloween.
Roma with all it’s richness and animalics because it reminds of foggy Fall days In September & November when I wore it to university in San Francisco.
Lolita Lempicka because I worked at Nordstrom when it first came out at Xmas 1997 – The entire store was decorated as a Lolita Lempicka winter wonderland forest with elves, icicles, and sugar plum fairies everywhere!

My new favorite fragrance for fall is Tom Ford Black Orchid.. I just love it.
I’m very fussy about fragrance, I have to smell them a zillion times before I can make up my mind.

Dianne Avatar

Depending on my mood, either Gucci Guilty Black or my OG: Stella by Stella McCartney. My Gucci Guilty is on its last leg and my boyfriend just got me the Elizabeth and James Nirvana Bourbon. I think that’s about to be put in heavy rotation! It’s beautiful and perfect for fall.

Pamela Avatar

Early fall I like Calvin Klein Reveal. When fall is in full swing, it’s CK Euphoria. I also crave Jo Malone Pomegranate Noir. But late fall going into winter when it’s near freezing I LOVE me some Maison Martin Margiela By the Fireplace! It smells just like a bonfire, rich and smoky!
