Once per week (usually Saturday), I do my shampoo/conditioning/blow out routine. I use Matrix Biolage Moringa Oil Blend Shampoo once for deeper scalp cleaning, then a 2nd going over with just a small amount of shampoo, condition with OGX Anti-Breakage Keratin Oil Conditioner, towel dry a bit, apply Ion Smooth Solutions Keratin Replenishing Mist, coil my hair into a topknot for awhile, then apply a mix of Matrix Biolage Moringa Oil Protective Treatment and Argan oil, afterwards some Marc Anthony Argan Oil 3-day Smooth cream or One’n Only Brazilian Tech Keratin Smoothing Lotion before blowing it out as straight as if I were born this way! At night, I put it into a coiled topknot before bed to prevent tangles or regression. During summer, I will, if needed, do a mid-week dry shampoo or cleansing conditioner. Plus, every 5-6 weeks, I do a root t/up of color because I hate going gray!!!
Same here – I just hate going grey too and I have my roots done every 5 weeks. I colour my hair back to its nature colour.
Davines Natural Tech shampoo and conditioner (sulphate free and pretty awesome!) and for controlling the frizz, Original and Mineral Frizzy Logic serum
I’ve been doing reverse washing, and it’s been a total game changer for my hair! My hair is straight and flat, with oily roots, dry ends, and I color at home every 6 weeks to cover gray roots. I wet my hair, use my hands to wring out excess water, apply a silicone conditioner to the ends (my fave are the ones that come in those hair coloring kits), let it sit for a few minutes, then apply a color-safe shampoo to the roots only, massage in, and rinse out. I towel dry, spritz some TIGI Bedhead Superstar Queen for a Day Thickening Spray-I’ve been using for years, adds lots of volume without weighing hair down, and it’s not sticky or heavy. For my ends only, I apply a little Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl & Style Milk and Bumble & Bumble Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil. Clip my hair up in a messy bun, and let it air dry for 30 minutes, then blow dry on medium heat, using a round brush to curl in the ends and “seal in” the styling cream and oil. I get lots of volume, shine, and my ends are hydrated.
How do you use the B&B on the ends? I had tried it (after getting a free sample) and found for my thin hair it was way too heavy. Maybe I used it wrong? (I like my current routine but it would be nice to have some options esp. if I can’t get my products as they often go out of stock.)
My hair is medium texture and thickness but getting thinner due to age, length is past the shoulders, but tends to go flat because it’s straight, and my roots usually get oily, so I usually skip conditioner on roots. After the shower, I towel-dry my hair until it’s damp, then add a 1/2 dime to 1 dime drop of the B&B oil to ends only. I also mix in Shea Curl Milk on my ends, but if you have fine hair, you should skip since it’s very moisturizing. The B&B Invisible Oil is probably the lightest hair oil that I’ve tried that’s still moisturizing enough for my dry ends. During winter, I switch to a heavier oil for the ends ( Agave Oil Treatment), but my hair can’t take anything too heavy or it goes flat. Hope this helps
Katherine, Yes it does help – thank you! I think next time I need to just concentrate the B&B on the ends a bit better.
I’m
I have a ton of repairing/moisturizing/detangling products for my split ends, but I just gave up and got over 3 inches chopped off this week. So with my shorter hair, my routine is now a bit more simple: Attitude volume & shine shampoo, Keranique conditioner plus Carol’s Daughter Black Vanilla conditioner on the very ends, and I’m still using It’s a 10 to add body.
Hair is dead. The only way to mend split ends is to cut your hair.
I’m incredibly low maintenance when it comes to my hair (this is why I have any time at all for makeup!). I basically wash, condition, and brush…but sometimes, I’ll style with the straightening iron and/or use anti-frizz products.
Shampoo with Wella Elements, condition with either Wella Elements or the Ziaja Natural Olive Mask, and once every three washes I use a clarifying shampoo.
Christophe Robin blueberry shampoo, Moroccanoil conditioner, and whatever Sephora sample/point gift/beauty box styling thing I need to use up. I wash like two/three times a week. In between, I’m hooked on Moroccanoil or klorane dry shampoo.
I’m currently using L’Oréal Elvive Nutrigloss shampoo and conditioner (pink bottles). They’re alright I guess, nothing special but they get the job done! Sometimes instead of conditioner I’ll use a hair mask and I really like the Kérastase Nutrive Masquintense for fine hair. It’s not that cheap so I don’t use it all the time, just if I feel that my hair needs it. I’ll leave it on for about 5-10 minutes, probably longer than I need to, then I’ll rinse it off with cold water. You could keep it on longer but I don’t know how much fire benefit you’d get unless your hair was extremely dry.
If I use a treatment before washing it’s either Philip Kingsley Elasticizer or milk_shake Integrity Repairing Hair Treatment. Both really make a difference to my hair, adding softness, strength and shine. I use a treatment once a week, sometimes less often though, it really depends. I gravitate towards the milk_shake treatment because it is much cheaper. I really recommend it if you can get it. ?
As for styling my hair I generally use a heat protectant before and a serum after. I use TRESemmé Protect Heat Defence Styling Spray and an argan oil serum that I forget the name of!
I don’t tend to use hair spray, maybe a touch to keep my fringe in place but I’m not a fan! Not sure why but there you go.
I think that’s about it! ?
I’ve never heard of milk_shake (I don’t think it has real distribution in the US, but available via Amazon and a few other online retailers) but it looks very intriguing and I need a new deep treatment. Do you use the kind in the tube or the vials?
I use the one in the vials. Not the best packaging but there is plenty of product in them, enough for me even when my hair was way past my waist. It’s very watery and a bit tricky to not lose any product but the outcome is worth it! I hope that is helpful for you and that you like it if you do try the treatment. 🙂
Days working from home: Kevin Murphy Angel Wash and Angel Rinse mixed 3/4 to 1/4 with Born Again in the shower. Air dry hair with Young Again on ends.
Weekends and days I leave the house: Kevin Murphy Pumping Wash and Rinse in the shower. Blow dry with Body Mass at the roots and Anti-Gravity Gel mid length to ends and Young Again at very ends (will be switching this to Damage Manager as soon as I can pick it up). Spray with Hair Resort then curl with curling iron or rollers. Doo-Over underneath curls (flip head). Finish with Session Spray and Shimmer Shine.
Every other Monday: Start shower routine with Maxi Wash. Add Hydrate Me in between Wash and Rinse products.
Every Friday: Add Angel Masque in between Wash and Rinse products.
I try to wash my hair only once a week because it’s colored red, and it’s long. Water and heat are the two worst things for color. I use Fekkai Reparatives shampoo and conditioners – the regular conditioner mixed with Sally knock off of Aveda Maddr Root conditioner, alternated with Fekkai Intense Forifying Masque. I use Living Proof Frizz leave-in condioner and Nourishing Styling Cream for blow drying, and Batiste dry shampoo for in-between washings.
Well I’m in the midst of grad school so shampoo/conditioner (currently Rusk moisture) every third day is about the extent of it. Occasionally a spritz of batiste dry shampoo. If a blue moon sticks and I want to style a bit, I really like 1 in hot rollers for some volume. I have natural waves so it looks relatively decent if I just give my hair bit of volume.
Shampoo is Mane and Tail. Haha my hair is thick and course like a horse:) Then I use a styling creme from Bumble and Bumble. Spray hair with an argan oil to fight frizz. Pretty basic!
I have been using the Orlando Pita Argan Oil shampoo and conditioner set for a while, now, I really like it. Then I spritz with leave-in treatment (Beauty Protector in cold weather, Aveda Brilliance in warm weather) and blow dry with a round brush.
I wash my hair a few times a week with a solid bar shampoo from Chagrin Valley Soap and Salve and will follow with a generic version of Biolage Conditioning Balm. On days I don’t wash, I use some Batiste dry shampoo and brush it through to fade out the white cast, spray the sides of my hair with some water and brush down (my hair is buzzed super short on the sides), and spray everything in place. I usually skip hairspray if I just washed my hair.
I cut off about 11 inches of my hair because I didn’t like doing anything with it, so my pixie routine is the most basic thing on the planet. Every two or three days, I’ll shampoo and condition with some regular Suave products from Walmart. The only special thing I do is leave my conditioner in for 5-ish minutes to get super soft hair. I don’t use heat or do any styling other than “I wonder if it’ll curl better if I use butterfly clips and bunch up some of my bangs” so I don’t have to add anything in between washes. Yay generic hair care!
I cut off all my hair (down past my shoulders) into a pixie recently for the same reason! I love my pixie; so happy I did it.
3 more inches by Michael Van de Clarke Shampoo & Conditioner, interchanged with Elvive Extraordinary Clay for greasy roots dry ends. Roots are touched up once a month using Wella Igora Vibrance semi permanent colour. I don’t use straighteners or curling tongs.
Hair dryer is Parlux and I use the diffuser to avoid heat damage. Has anyone tries the new Dyson hairdryer?
Any tips on products to in hard water areas, London water had ruined my hair 🙁
I have the most wonderful hair stylist I visit once a week – her shampoos and things smell wonderful!
I wish I Could go to a hair Salon every week, too.
When you get to be my age you just might! It’s one of the things I do for myself that makes me very happy. I am not in a big city so it’s not as expensive as some places!
Yes, I always say if I had more Money this would be the thing I would make. Go to the hair Salon every Week. And you Are very Lucky to have a hair stylist you really like. It is not easy to find a good stylist.
I have curly white hair–a nice change from blonde and sort of hard to handle younger version. I use Ag color savor shampoo or Free and Clear shampoo (both free of fragrance and sulfates), followed by Free and Clear conditioner. Once a week, I use Kevin Murphy’s Blonde Angel Wash and Blonde Angel Rinse (they are purple) to maintain the sheer white color and get rid of any yellow tones left by Cincinnati water.
To style, I detangle my hair with a wide tooth comb, apply either Kevin Murphy Motion Lotion or Curly Hair Solutions Curl Keeper and Curl Keeper Gel. I combl that through again, scrunch the curls and let it dry naturally. If I’m in a hurry, I wait until the curls are halfway dry, then use a diffuser and tussle. Easiest routine I’ve ever had for my hair. White hair is a lot easier!!
Do you ever find that purple shampoos tend to dull white hair?
I have found that if I use the purple shampoo more than twice a week, it does start to turn my hair a bluish shade. So I only use it one a week and every five weeks, when I get my hair cut, my hairdresser puts a toner on my hair to brighten it and remove any brassiness that my purple shampoo didn’t get. Keven Murphy’s Blonde Angel Wash is a very nice product, leaving my hair silky with giant curls. It is expensive though.
Thanks so much for your reply!
On shampoo days I put my conditioner on my hair while it is still dry…it is usually a moisture enriched or moisturizing type. Then I will put my hair into a shower cap and go about some of my shower routine (about 2 to 3 minutes). Then I remove the cap and thoroughly rinse the conditioner out. I wash my hair with L’Oreal Oleo Therapy shampoo, rinse, then reapply the conditioner and finish up the rest of my shower routine then do the final rinse. I put a towel around my head and pat but not rub. I let the towel do its job. Then I apply a leave in conditioner and distribute it through my hair, followed by a hair gel which contains UV protection. I then let my hair dry naturally, and I am done. My hair is fairly short and very curly so I handle it minimally.
I always wanted to have really Long hair but I always had to cut it because of Split ends.
Then I changed my hair routine and now I have really Long hair. My hair is thin but finally long. I like CURLS very much so I make a permanent curl but only every 2 years.
My hair is very oily so I have to wash it every day When I go to work.
When I have enough Time and remember it I put hair Oil into the ends of my hair or a pre Shampoo before washing and leave it in As Long As possible.
Then I wash my hair with Shampoo, rinse, wash again with shampoo, rinse, then I use a conditioner but only from the middle to the ends, brush my hair with Tangle teezer, rinse, dry with a towel but not rubbing, then I put hair Oil in the ends again, leave on the towel As Long As ist Takes to cream my Face etc.
Then I put in a curl Styling cream, make a bun and go to sleep, no heat
So These Are the things I have changed and got Long hair: using hair Oil and conditioner every Time I wash my hair, washing twice, using only Tangle teezer to brush my hair and no Heat to dry or Style my hair
Here some things I often read but cannot say that it is true/ did not work for me:
Reverse washing. I often Hear that it should help preventing that the conditioner weights down the hair. I did not realize Any difference, I only put conditioner in the ends where the hair Needs it and that works for me. I Prefer washing twice and follow with conditioner
I also was always looking for THE Shampoo and THE conditioner with which my hair will always Look good. I have tried soooo many shampoos and conditioners and in my opinion there is no holy grail Shampoo and condioner. The only thing I have experienced is that there Are hair products which Are very bad and that I won’t buy again but there Are no Perfect hair products which work every time. Therefore I have soooo many Different Shampoos, conditioners, oils and curl creams and use them all.
I also often read that one should not brush wet hair. I only brush it When it is wet, otherwise I would not be able to brush it. But I only use a Tangle teezer and no other brush anymore.
Last thing is that one also should not go to sleep with wet hair because it breaks. I always wash my hair in the evening , make a bun with my wet hair and go to sleep. And they Do not break. It Takes very Long to let Long hair air dry so it would not be possible to Do it in a Different way or in the Morning before work.
I know this was a very Long comment but I Love my hair so much and it Took so Long to find the right hair routine to get it long and I am so happy now to finally have my hair long and that it gets longer and longer.
i have balayge hair so I use matrix silver shampoo , I switch it up with Q10 time restore shamp/cond . After shower I pat dry then air dry for a bit while damp I use Avalon leave in conditioner , redken anti snap . Then alterna bamboo oil before I blow dry . Finish with bumble and bumble hair dressers oil n set it with AG anti humidity spray . Throughout the week if feeling dirty or I need some texture I use AG texture spray on my roots , tresame dry shampoo / Amika dry conditioner . I have a lot of hair products so far these have been maintaining my dry , fragile , bleached tresses
I just wash, condition, and use a towel to get mostt of the water out. I then use a Wet Brush to detangle and add some product, like an oil. Brush through and leave to air dry.
I colour my hair when I feel like it. I have some grey, sometimes it annoys me, sometimes, I just don’t care.
I wash every other day in the evening. I tend to go with L’Oreal Evercreme, but I got sick of a gigantic bottle of Nature’s Gate Pomegranate rolling around under the sink, so I’m working through that. About 4-5 months ago, I switched to using a leave-in conditioner + hair oil after I finish a shower, then “plopping” my hair into a Turbie Towel. I have naturally wavy hair and wanted to see if it was any happier if I treated it like it was curly.
A week ago, I got like 6-8 inches lopped off my hair, which usually leads to me cutting back on the dry oil and conditioning, but I said what the heck and kept it up. I was actually surprised to see that I don’t need any dry shampoo between showers…I would have thought it was the opposite. I usually need a bit of dry shampoo when my hair is shorter, because there isn’t any hair for the natural oils to be spread onto. I’ve been skipping the plopping, though, as I don’t really have the length to warrant it.
I always air dry my hair, rarely use product aside from what I put on it in the shower.
It’s funny, though, because I told a friend I was getting 6 inches cut off, might look like 4, but I have no idea how much came off or how long my hair really is because it’s been curling up more.
Acure, OGX, and Giovanni here for the most part. I have some random styling stuff.
My hair is thin and mousy. I have an excellent stylist who gives me a great cut and color. I’ve recently started wearing a wig and have to say I love it and the compliments I’ve been receiving. Will stick with the wig. So easy to look so good.
I am currently using two shampoos and conditioners at the moment: Redken Colour Treated Hair shampoo for Red and L’Oreal’s Colour Shampoo and Conditioner. I alternate between the two. I only need a tiny bit of conditioner because even though I am 60+ my hair still gets very oily. Between shampoos I use the Kloraine Nettle or Oatmeal dry shampoo.
Because my hair is super thin and fine (it’s always been like that) I just shampoo it every third day, never use styling products and have learned to live with what I have.. I rotate shampoos (currently Giovanni Root 66 and Klorane chamomile shampoo). I use a bit of Lush’s Veganese conditioner if I use the Giovanni shampoo. I always air dry my hair.
Nothing special…. Just what ido round the year. I oil massage my hair using olive oil; then use my favorite kerastase shampoo and conditioner. Once a week i use a hair mask too. Only that now , in summers, i shampoo my hair more frequently than in winters.
Well, since I recently cut my long hair into a pixie, I actually try to do more with it because 1. you actually have to style short hair and 2. I’m happy with it and I want it to look good. I have to get it trimmed about every 4-6 weeks. By 6 weeks, it starts getting pretty out-of-control and my head itches like crazy. I also get my hair colored/touched up every few months because I’m getting some gray. I’m trying to get into the habit of not washing my hair every day, but it’s hard because my head gets very itchy and flaky and I want to wash all the product out of it, but if I let it go, it gets more texture. Pixies need texture. And I like to sculpt it when I’m bored.
I’ve been using L’Oreal Everpure Smooth Shampoo and Conditioner for a long time. I also use a few things for my itchy, flaky scalp: Christophe Robin scalp exfoliant, Shea Moisture African Water Mint and Ginger Detox Shampoo, and Pura d’Or Scalp Therapy shampoo (I like to try all kinds of things!). So far, the best styling routine has been: Some kind of styling cream, hair powder, and dry wax spray. If I want a softer look, I like to use Wen Styling Cream and then Garnier Pixie Play. My hair has some crazy weird wave, so I find I need to flat iron it to get it to settle down, but it’s too short right now to do that.
I color my roots every 3-4 weeks with Scwarzkopf Color Ultime. A week after i color, I use Ogx mint/tea tree shampoo and Garnier Natural Blends Honey Treasures deep conditioner. The next week or two, I use Herbal Essence Honey I’m Strong shampoo and conditioner. I only wash and condition once a week. I clip the wet hair up and spray L’oreal quick dry primer spray on all the roots and dry them as fast as possible. I let the rest air dry for a while – my hair is super thick and takes forever. When it comes time to blow dry, I rub Chi Silk Infusion (life changing product that turns my straw into silk but is hard to wash out) into my hair starting about an inch down from the roots. Because my front hairs will probably still look frizzy or not be smooth, I hit them with a straightening iron, and then I may do the rest of my hair with either a straightner or a curling iron for pretty spiral waves. If it’s rainy, I use Elnett to keep the smooth front smooth.
I’m using the L’Oreal Extraordinary Oils shampoo and Garnier Honey conditioner. After that I rub Macadamia treatment into the middle and ends of my hair. It makes my hair feel silky, smooth, helps with heat damage and I’m sure I have less hair loss because of it too!
