I’ve *never* used mine. Also, the KvD Shadow and Light matte palette, Cinema Secrets 5-pan metallics, the list goes on. I really like them in theory, but have *never* worn them. I have a few custom palettes, but rarely use those, either. I’m starting to think I’m just not an eyeshadow girl. Sigh.

Most of them! So for this year I gave myself a palette challenge. Every month I choose a palette from my collection and I have to use it every time I do my eyeshadow that month — I can bring in other palettes or singles, but I have to use at least one shade from the Palette o’ The Month.
So far I’ve used my UD Heavy Metal Palette (love it, glad I bought it)
That NARS Dual Intensity palette from a few years back (bought it to celebrate getting a job, never use it, probably won’t go into regular rotation but I’m keeping it for sentimental reasons)
The old ABH Artist Palette (got some decent looks from it but I’m pretty sure I have dupes for all the colors I like so I am sanitizing it and my other old ABH palette and taking them to dance class to give away).

I think this month’s palette of choice will be the Viseart Paris Nudes. I really like it but I almost never wear it.

I love the idea of “Palette o’ The Month,” but that would be too restricting for my ridiculously short attention span, so maybe something like Modern Renaissance Monday, Tarte Tuesday, UD Wednesday, TF Thursday, KVD Friday, etc. would work for me. Is should do that with lipstick, too. So many are unused.

AJ Avatar

Oh yeah, if you do your makeup daily, breaking it up into days of the week would be a great idea!

I honestly only do my makeup a few times a month right now (I work from home and don’t go out a lot).

I recently started brand of the week, I only use shadows from that brand. I’m enjoying it and the challenge has pushed me to be creative in coming up multiple looks from palette.

AJ Avatar

It wouldn’t surprise me! I don’t personally hang out on Reddit but I’ve seen similar ideas floating around on YouTube and Instagram, which was what inspired me. I wouldn’t be surprised if those artists got their inspiration from Reddit.

I try to remember to do that on a weekly basis but then I start to think how boring it will be when I answer questions here. But it’s such a good idea – whether on a weekly or monthly basis – because, really, how many different looks do most of us need to get through a work or school week.

I should use some of my larger ones – a few from Too Faced and UD – but I have a small little bathroom area and they’re just not all that practical. Anything larger than the UD Naked Palettes – that sort of size – doesn’t get a whole lot of use, generally just on weekends when I have more time to “spread out” all the slap!

Both of my Kat Von D palettes: Saint & Sinner and Shade & Light (mattes). I wanted both of them sooooo badly—like I just couldn’t live without them—but now they gather dust most of the time. I don’t know why. They’re both great palettes.

And I never use my NYX Happy Birthday palette, but that was a freebie, so not as tragic.

Naked Heat. Warm neutrals are my core, but I’m not enjoying it so don’t reach for it much any more. Not sure why; I think perhaps it’s that the shades all are more or less of one narrow range.

Marc Jacobs edgitorial palette. I bought it because of the green shade in the palette, but I rarely used it because I don’t use green on a daily basis 🙁

Mariella Avatar

I returned that palette – the first item I’ve returned in more than 5 years. There was really only one (maybe 2) colours that suited and flattered me and I could’t justify spending that much when everything else was actually kind of ugly on me.

This was a fun read with some great suggestions. I’m guilty of not using many of the palettes I love because I have so many that I love! I really enjoy having an enormous collection since I get bored so easily if I use just one palette for more than a day or two.

Kat Von D Shade and Light palette. I do see how great a basic palette this is, but I just don’t reach for it because I love my Viseart Mattes and they are more convenient and the colors are beautiful.

The other palette I’m not using is Too Faced Bon Bons palette. I love the shades (most of them), the quality is okay, but I despise the cutesy hearts. I will probably decluttering both of them. Same with Urban Decay Basics 2. Boring.

Heather Avatar

ABH Modern Renaissance. Lovely quality, lovely colors, but I’m more of a one-and-done sort of girl and I feel like that palette shines best with more artistic looks. 🙂

I’m ashamed to admit it, but far too many. It actually makes me sad sometimes that I have many great palettes that go neglected because of “new shiny things”. Yesterday, for instance, I pulled out my Lorac Unzipped Palette just for one shade because I was busy replicating that smokey dusky mauve eye that Christine did with a new CP quad. And it really hit me that I haven’t done a look using this palette in MONTHS.Plural!

Kat Von D holiday palettes (I have Mi Vida Loca Remix, MetalMatte, and Saint and Sinner) – I rarely reach for them. Same goes for Sigma Creme de Couture. I love playing with color but I’m so lazy in the morning and I feel like I need to leave a lot of time for a colorful look in case something goes awry.

Megan Avatar

Hmm hard question! Hardly any because I have a smallish collection and I tend to not bring a lot of new things in. Also, many of the palettes released recently haven’t been fitting my needs so I haven’t bought many. The only one I could think of is Tisse Rivoli by Chanel. I really like this but I used to struggle with it lasting on my skin. That said, my eyelids are much drier now so I should try it again soon.

I would have to say the Dior Rose Quint from the holiday collection. I wanted it in the worst way, swatched it and loved the colors and haven’t used it but twice since. I am not sure why as none of the shades are so “holiday” that I couldn’t use them year around. I probably just need to pull it out and sit it on my vanity to remind me to reach for it.

I have all the Naked palettes and never use them. The Rose one is too pink. The browns are just too blah.

I end up usually using an Aucoin Featherlight palette that are all mattes, can’t remember the name of it. I do have a Laura Geller Get Glam palette that I had in my desk at work, it was nice for neutrals but a little too much shimmer.

CeeBee Avatar

Colurpop Yes, Please and UD Naked 3. In theory, they should work beautifully for me – I like all the colours and the texture and pigmentation is good but every time I use them, I just go “Ehhhhh.”

And I’m really not sure why that is…

Dolores Avatar

I absolutely love Pat McGrath’s shadows but I find that when I’m pressed for time which seems to be almost everyday, I don’t pull it off as often as I would like to. I’m in the process of arranging all of my makeup to facilitate me pulling them out more often.

janine Avatar

Skinny dip!! Love it soo Mach! Alittle dramatic for work although I’ve done it before and I’ve been working a lot so haven’t been going out.

I also really don’t use the Viseart cool mattes, warm mattes or dark mattes much but the neutral matte I use every day.

Genevieve Avatar

There’s a few in my collection that should be loved more and I can’t/won’t get rid of them:
Tarina Tarantino’s Emerald Pretty
bareMinerals The Playlist
Lancome’s Sparkling Intoxication
I like the idea of palette of the week – I do try to do that, but I often end up using different ones every other day.

Kate Avatar

KVD Monarch! It’s so pigmented and blends so nice, but there’s so many shimmers that it’s hard to create a look out of it. (I also JUST found out they discontinued this palette 2 YEARS AGO?! where have I been?!?)

TF chocolate bar palette as well. I used it a bunch when I first bought it but I’ve strayed away from safe browns and golds, but it’s nostalgic for me and I can’t seem to part ways with it yet.

Annoyingly enough, any custom palette I put together. All of my Z palettes sit untouched a lot of the time (even though there are really great products in them). I just never think to pull them out and I have to make an effort to remember. It would be worse if I have that many blushes/eyeshadows all in individual compacts! I wouldn’t even bother with it!

My tartelette in bloom or huda beauty desert dusk. In reality, I have so many eye palettes that I don’t get good use out of most of them, which is why I’m trying not to buy any eye palettes for a while (haven’t bought one since November, so I think I’m doing pretty well! The sephora spring sale might just be enough to tempt me into buying Too Faced peachy mattes palette, though). However, the tartelette in bloom is my holy grail but I feel like I usually save it for special occasions. As for the huda beauty desert dusk, I love the look of it and the looks other people create with it, I think I’m just too intimidated to play with all the colours in case it doesn’t work out/is too crazy to wear to work.
