Not very exciting, but Hard Candy “peace.” An oldie and a cheapie, but it never fails me. Also Maybelline’s colour tattoo in “bad to the bronze.” Always works.

This past 3 weeks, it has been MAC Bellgreens palette! I’ve worn it in some way every single day since I got, except 2 days. Always get lots of compliments on how great it looks and how it brings out my eyes. But….I know boredom will eventually kick in, then it’ll probably be back to Woodwinked/Antiqued.

Urban Decay Smog is my absolute go-to shadow. A medium-dark bronze that adds instant depth to my eyes! It’s what I wear when I have no time to put a look together, but it can make a beautiful evening eye too because it’s rather shiny. Rather versatile for us deeper skinned gals!

NARS Ondine. If it’s ever DC’d, I will buy at least 5 backups… I have some similar eyeshadows, but there’s just something special about Ondine. The first time I ever swatched it, I literally heard the angelssing, and when I actually wore it for the first time, it was magic!

The bottom color in Wet ‘N’ Wild Silent Treatment – it’s a cool-toned purple taupe. I have olive-green eyes and it works really well for me.

An oldie goldie: MAC’s Taupe (matte) in the large pan. I will never use it up because it is so big and I have had it forever. Still works, still looks good. My grab and go for all over the lid. Bobbie Brown’s Cement in both the powder and cream form would be a very close second.

I bought Taupe many years ago and I think it is one of the most perfect all purpose shades for anyone. Another favourite is NARS Mekong for a little more dramatic look.

Maybelline Color Tattoo in ‘Bad to the Bronze’ and ‘Barely Branded,’ Urban Decay Sin and Toasted, MAC Banshee. I guess they’re all kind of boring and neutral, but so lovely and versatile!

Those are my go-to shadows for an easy “one & done” look! I will never understand why they DC’d Cloud, but I am so glad I don’t strictly adhere to makeup “expiration dates!” I came close to throwing it out once, simply because I’ve had it forever (there was nothing wrong with it, it had languished in a drawer barely touched for years). I decided to keep it, though, & once I started using it again, I decided to try out more shades. I could not believe that Cloud is no longer available… and was so relieved to still have mine! Phew!!!

Daniel Sandler’s Lava polychromatic powder eyeshadow (LE). It’s difficult to describe – a red-brown base with copper, red, and bronze shift. It makes for a stunning smoky eye with either a brown or a burgundy eyeliner.

Ohh – that’s a tough question – but it would have to be the greens – khaki, my Charlotte Tilbury the Rebel greens, mint green, YSL Slate green, MUFE No. 80 green, L’Oreal Golden Emerald and Gilded Envy. All beautiful.
Next would be the blues – I am a lot more specific about my blue colours – navy blue and a soft arctic blue are my favourites.

MAC smut! I love it! Not too brown, not too gray, not quite black but still deep enough to set and fade out my black eyeliner regardless of whatever other shades I feel like using.I only wish the formula could be a bit smoother and more buttery.

The three shadows I never tire of are Make Up For Ever Matte eye shadow in Black, the deepest and purest black eye shadow ever, Nars Matte eye shadow in Sophia, a cool brown that complements my deep skin tone, and Nars Cream eye shadow in Paper Tiger, the dreamiest toffee brown shadow that melts onto my lids and makes them look like I’m not really wearing any makeup at all.

The eyeshadow I wear the most has got to be Urban Decay Stray Dog. I have a bunch of backups in the event it is discontinued, so I probably have more than I can wear in this lifetime, but it is the perfect neutral brown for me. My second would have to be Urban Decay Lounge, which is discontinued, but I have plenty of back ups as well as dupes. It has a duo chrome type finish, it flashes green and plum although it looks brown in the pan. It really makes my green eyes look quite green, and both the green and plum it flashes enhance my eye color. Urban Decay Plague was my go to purple after they discontinued Eden’s Expressway, but I just can’t pull the purples off as I was able to when I was younger. I am 51, on the verge of 52 and for some reason, purple eye shadow makes me look like I have black eyes, sort of like a beat up old Barbie doll. Not a good look for me at this point in life. I have always really liked the formula of Urban Decay eye shadows, even the original Pot Holes line from their inception. I don’t seem to have the fall out that many have complained about, and when I am in a hurry, I have been known to forget my primer, but they have always worn quite well on my very oily skin. That said, I have all of the Naked palettes, and can create many looks with Stray Dog as my main color. Neutrals suit me quite well as I am older now, and I have tried the Chanel palettes, and they aren’t consistent, and for the price, they should be as well as Dior Quints, and those are hit or miss as well. For the price point, the quality, and the ease of attaining them, Urban Decay is my go to eye shadow brand. If only they would stop discontinuing the shadows I love. I am running out of room with all of the backups I have stashed away.

Urban Decay eyeshadows are amazing, & their formula has only gotten better over the years (I’m 37, so I can remember the history of the product, as you mentioned (I think their products started appearing in Hot Topics stores when I was about 17?). I love them so much, I tried to get my Mother on the bandwagon when the first Naked pallette came out years ago. She’s never worn eyeshadow, though, oddly enough (not that I can remember). She has big brown eyes that she always lines with a dark- but not black- pencil… so I turned her onto their 24/7 eyeliners, which she loves! Anyway, your post was great… it had me lusting after all the DC’d colors you mentioned. Have you tried Too Faced? The are my second favorite company, & have that similar soft, buttery texture to their shadows. They blend nicely & have some great colors. You might like them if you give them a try.

Nars Ondine single eye shadow. I wear it everyday to work because it is kind of sheer and enough to look polished around my eyes.

Makeup Geek Cocoa Bear and Coastal Scents Hot Pot in Oktoberfest…I use one of these for every single look as my transition shade.
