What eyeliner did you used to love but no longer does it for you?

I don’t think there is one! Urban Decay 24./7 Liners are still a go-to for me and have been for years. I feel like a lot of the limited edition releases are less impressive, but the core range is great.

It would have to be the (now GONE) Marc Jacobs liner pencils (Highliners? name of a frozen fish products company in Canada! Always makes me think of fish sticks!). They were wonderful – absolutely wonderful – when new but in my experience, they dried up SO quickly and became unusable. I absolutely LOVED Brown(out) when I got it – I had a mini and bought a full size – but both dried out far too quickly and couldn’t be salvaged with Inglot Duraline or anything. For pencils THAT expensive, it was inexcusable. Of course, they’re no longer available but I stopped buying them ages before the company shut its doors.

I was using Urban Decay 24/7 but I got sick of trying to sharpen it back to its original new point. Once the newness of the point wore off, it was impossible to get a good point on it and I ended up wasting alot of it. Now I’m using two liners that i like…..Lancome Le Stylo and Stila Artistix. They are retractable and never need sharpening and the Lancome one has a smudger on one end. I’ll never go back to Urban Decay.

This! Exact same reason I quit buying UD eye pencils. I tried different sharpeners, putting them in freezer for a few minutes, using a sharp knife, lol. If I have to lose half an inch to get a point it’s not worth it. A bummer as they have beautiful colors.

UD 24/7 has been my go-to for so long, I can’t even remember what I used to use before them! (But Haus Labs Optic Intensity eye pencils—especially Deep Bronze Shimmer—are amazing…maybe even better than UD 24/7. I just wish there were more shades.)

Not a particular brand, but in general…liquid pen liners. I have always had hooded eyes. Course in my younger yrs I never knew that name, “hooded eye”. I just knew that I loved drawing cat eye & liquid liners, but always had issues with transfer. Flash forward to newer formulas that had some staying power, water-proof & all. But still the older I got, the further my hood hung & now NOTHING works. I had a Marc Jacob’s liquid liner that stayed. But now I just do some eyeshadow in the most demure V in my outer corner & call it a day.

Genevieve, UD’s Mushroom is a gorgeous color! It’s a fave, I also have a stub I use under my eyes for special occasions. Still looking for a pencil that is similar to that taupe-pewter, with a very fine shimmer, neutral and complex at the same time.

Never had luck with the MJBs. Never got into Nars pencils. Objectively, many are dreadful. MUFEs dry up, as Brenda said. With wood pencils, some can be cut off a couple of inches down, be sharpened and work fine for a while. UD has lost some luster in terms of quality and creativity. DS like Nyx and LA girl have improved greatly. But my current faves are Linda Hallberg. The color assortment has been reduced, but she has some great shades. Lacey/Gen: I know there’s a gunmetal with shimmer, but DK if there is a similar taupey shimmer one. Accidentally got the e/l for 50% off, as i was just lurking the site. Christine has some Hallberg shadows on here, if you wish to get the general feel of LH.

Used to use Chanel Stylo Yeux (too inconsistent and while some colors are gorgeous, some colors are dry and draggy), Laura Mercier (consistently decent with good colors), Patrick Ta (a favorite formula but far too short lasting for the price so given up for good), and Lancome (still have a few trusty basic brown ones around) but recently became a convert to Victoria Beckham Kajal and have to say they are great and did what a good product should do: inspired creativity.

I wore almost solely Marc Jacobs highliners for years. RIP. They worked well for me — I almost never had the dry-out/crumble problem many encountered, I loved the variety of shades, and they lasted forever on my waterline. I am slowly but surely using up my stash still. Don’t know what will be next. I like Canmake’s durability, but the range is so limited; UD is ok but needs touch up midday; MUFE aqua resist doesn’t last but a few hours at a time on me, I have to touch up very often.

UD.. too waxy, too difficult to sharpen. I have watery eyes and waxy formulas will not apply in the corners. I also used to love Zoeva, but they have changed the formula and ugh! It’s now too creamy and I get bad transfer on my hoods.

I’m still a fan of Chanel Le Stylo, but it’s a trickier formula and a mixed bag in terms of performance between shades, but two of them are still my favourites (38 and 926) and nothing has replaced them. I also have a very old Illamasqua pencil in shade Severe.. it’s a pinky red (probably not eye safe), but I am one of those peeps who can wear it.
