Shimmery Bronzer
I often wear bronzer as a subtle blush – a bit of defining and color without wearing an actual blush shade – so I tend to like some shimmer. I also love highlighter, so I can roll with a matte bronzer as much as a shimmery one… though I find shimmery powders are easier to blend out (generally)!

I don’t like shimmery bronzers at all for myself. They don’t look good on me. My skin is pale, it doesn’t tan, and I don’t fake tan, so there’s no bronzed shimmering goddess look going on for me. They can look really gorgeous on other people, though. The one exception is Wet n Wild Reserve Your Cabana, which is light enough for me and more luminous than shimmery.
I use bronzer all over my face, so I prefer something that is a soft matte or has a very slight soft sheen. I also am not the type that likes glitter in general.
I don’t mind some shimmer if I’m going to be wearing it as an all-in-one bronzer and blush like, for instance, Essence Bespoke. But only for cheek wear!
However, when it comes to wearing it as a straight up bronzer, I prefer satin or natural finish mattes. I really don’t want shimmer up on my shine prone forehead!
I like them if the shimmer is subtle. I feel that it looks more natural on my skin than a matte bronzer, and can be layered with a shimmery blush without too much metallic cheek.
I canโt wear shimmery bronzers because they emphasize my skin texture too much. I find a satin finish most flattering.
Although I like a little shimmer in my bronzer (but not in my blush), I just don’t look good with something shimmery on my cheeks; it enhances to much my texture and sparkles are unflattering on me. I love them as aesthetic on others, but I go more towards something matte or with a barely noticeable shimmer when it comes to my collection.
I have to be careful with shimmer as it will highlight wrinkling skin, so it can be applied in some areas and not others. I can use it as a blush in the summertime while I am using my fake tanners but being careful not to over do it.
I donโt purchase shimmery bronzers. I prefer a matte bronzer. I do have several bronze-y blushes that I use if I just want a quick look. Shimmer bronzer reminds me of my early 20s, when I would apply NARS casino all over my face. I look back and cringe, lol. So now I only purchase mattes.
I don’t like shimmery anything on my face – only my eyes and lips. And I don’t use bronzers as I am so fair it would look unnatural.
I am the same in that I frequently use bronzer as a blush so a bit of shimmer is great. I also like to layer bronzer with a matte base and then a shimmer on top. Subtly done, itโs quite beautiful and gives my light skin more warmth and depth. I cannot get away with that all over bronzey look, but some strategic placement can liven my skin and make me look healthier. This as long as the shimmer is good quality and not over the top.
I think shimmery bronzer can be really pretty if you’re using in a more blushy way (across the cheekbones), but I don’t do that, lol. I prefer a more matte bronzer because I use it to add some shape to my face.
