What color combinations of makeup do you tend to go for?

I think the one combo that I favor is a coral cheek, but I find I do quite a bit of variety in color throughout any given week that I don’t think I have a go-to combo anymore, lol!

Caramel and Burgundy combos (Saddle + Embark or Sketch), Warm Soul (not sure what color that is – bronzey or beigey plum?) and a peach or nude lip. That’s my default when when I need to throw something on or when I want to play it safe with an ole faithful.

Combos I tend towards are:
1.) A classic soft but cut-crease eye look with a red, wine or even coral lip.
2.) An un-classic color smokey eye, ie; purples, paired with a mlbb lip, or even rich plum or purple!
3.) Classic smokey eye, ie; brown/ bronze or blackened *something* with a nude lip appropriate for my coloring.
4.) Lastly….something utterly nuts!
It all depends!

I usually do a bold eye or bold lip, but not both. Other than that, any color combo goes. A lot depends on my mood and what inspires me, so my look can be natural, vampy, bold, glamorous, sweet, etc. Also, I think my neutral coloring ( black hair, brown eyes, light/light med skin) lets me get away with a lot of bold and different colors, so I take advantage of that. I love to do purple shadow with purple blush and purple lips–it sounds OTT but the trick is to use gradient shades of purple, so if I’m wearing bold purple shadow, I use more subtle purples on my cheeks and lips, so it looks cohesive and not too OTT, unless I want it to.

I’m all over the place colorwise, but I have a few favorites. I love using various shades of purples on my eyes, often with a pop of chartreuse or teal, UD Afterglow blush in Bittersweet, and lavender lipstick or a sheer purple gloss. Shimmery violet and gray smokey eyes with MLBB lips. Blues, greens, and teals with metallic gold, worn with coral blush. Burgundy eyes, berry blush, and gray lips. Bronzy eyes and face with blue-gray matte lips. Another combo I use a lot is a neutral pin-up eye with either black or cobalt winged liner and mascara, along with bright red, red-coral, fuchsia, or neon pink lips.

I really like looks that invert traditional eye and lip colors too, as with burgundy eyes and gray lips. I feel like the colors still compliment each other with the placements switched if they’re adapted a little bit. Black lipstick also goes very well with pink or lipstick-like e/s colors IMO. 🙂

Paying more attention and reading more here is actually getting me to branch out. By branching out I mean I just snagged the Anastasia Mario palette. After all, there are blue and green shades in there! I’ve gone totally adventurous! 🙂

Generally, for me, think KVD Shade + Light or Becca Ombre Rouge. My MAC singles run toward Brown Script, Sketch, Naked Lunch, and Saddle. So neutrals all day long. I do have a Nars duo in Underworld and a MAC paint pot in Indianwood for when I’m feeling spunky. 🙂

Cheeks tend to be coral/peach with a light sweep of bronzer blush over for summer. Winter moves me more into the peach/rose tones. However, the sample of Goulue (warm raspberry) I got from Nars is a game changer. Right now I don’t want to wear anything else. I adore that color and would never have tried it if it wasn’t for the sample.

Lips — I always felt I looked better with a solid, but not flashy, pop of color. Changed it up a bit when I resurrected my Givenchy 103 Brun Createur, which as a near a nude as I can wear without looking dead, and I’m in love with it again.

As a read this, I guess I’m evolving a bit and trying new-ish looks. Sorta. 🙂

I pretty regularly keep my eyes neutral (MAC Amber x9) and this time of year wearing plum or burgundy pink blushes along with a bold lip. I’m loving burgundy, deep or bold berry and plum lip colours right now.

Most of the time, anything warm. I also love jewel tones during the Christmas holidays and pops of color on the lower lash line year round.

Lately I have been all about the bold lip. As a result my eyes and cheeks have been very neutral. I have been wearing a matte brown with a inner corner highlight of soft gold or pink with a bold red, orange or purple lip.

Every cool color in the rainbow from icy mauve and ballerina pink to medium pink/reds to deep burgundy, plum and purple — throw in a cool ivory, champagne and pewter, add a matte true charcoal gray and black — that’s my palette.

I mostly gravitate to purple and green eye shadow combinations so I wear dusty pink/purple blushes and similar shades of lipstick. I also love deep berry lipsticks. I don’t wear much coral but have been trying to branch out a little. I don’t wear a lot of “way out there” combinations or colors which makes my recent purchase of MAC On and On lipstick a real surprise. I haven’t worn it yet because I don’t know what to do with it but do not regret the purchase. I will probably start out using it as a topper which is probably what it was intended for as it is sheer with chunkier glitter.

My favorites are usually pinks and purples of various shades on the spectrum like mauves, heathers and plums, but mostly leaning cool to neutral or a little warm. As I’ve gotten older I’ve found that sheerer application is more flattering on me vs the bolder looks I used to do.

I don’t have a go-to combination and just let my mood or planned activities influence my LOTD. I do; however, shift my colors in both clothing and makeup according to the season and the weather.

Sheered out bright pink cheeks and plum to black lipstick shades like Anastasia Potion and Pat McGrath Blood 2. I also usually go heavier on my contour with super dark lipsticks because the contrast can drown out the definition in my face otherwise.

Burgundy monochrome but only heavy on either the eyes or lips

Any super saturated, smoked out warm tones on eyes like orange or berry shades with minimal color on cheeks and lips

Red or burgundy lips and faded bronze eyes, especially including MAC Powersurge Kohl

Basically any crazy lip color like blue, teal, or an edgy shade of purple with minimal eye looks built around MAC Powersurge

Any pink based pop of color on the lips (MAC VG Miley or Heroine, UD Anarchy, TF Theo, any red ever) with no added color elsewhere on the face, just highlighter, mascara, and brows

Cool toned, “unwearable” shades of taupe with soft, barely there cheeks and eyeshadow, and a very tasteful, precise swoop of black liquid eyeliner

soft pink and medium gray or green. to play it safe is naked 3 plus liner in stash.
soft shimmering coral on cheeks, nearly no color gloss on lips.
more bold colors are pink, muted reds and darker greens as mono colors. and i love duochromes, but my eyelids don’t offer enough “space” for them to really show up..
or a sunset, but less often than when i was younger 🙂

Olive, bronze, and raspberry! This is one of my favorite combinations year-round but especially for fall. I love throwing a yellow-toned green in the crease with my transition shades, using either a bronze shadow or liner, and then a warm pinky blush or lip. In the spring, I lean towards some brighter variations like gold instead of bronze. But yellow-toned pinks and greens are a favorite for me!

One of my all time favourite makeup combos, for my dark brown eyes is, Warm matte browns in the crease/lower lashline, and Shimmery Greens on the mobile lid, I swear I wear that look, three times a week 😛 I own a LOT of different shades, and depths of green eye shadows. And I love them all!! :D.

I love to pair this eye look with a satiny warm pinky brown neutral blush I have from Smashbox, (It’s called warm glow I think?) And I usually pair this whole look with a dark neutral lip, like Colourpop’s Stingray or Tulle (Both are EXACT dupes on my skin. I currently have one on the top lip and one on the bottom and I see ZERO difference)

My go-to look is bronze eyeshadow (think Tarte) with red/coral lips. I usualy wear brown or bronze eyeliner. I’m on the warmer side of neutral, and my hair is newly silver again. It seems like I’m able to wear more colors than usual right now, so certain shades of plum/purple/lavender are working for me again.

I tend to prefer plums, mauves, taupes and bronzes on the eyes with mauve or soft pink blush. Depending on the eye, I’ll use anything from mauve to plum to raspberry on the lip. Nude lips need to have enough pink in them for me to wear without looking completely washed out, so there are a select few that I rotate through. My favorite lip color is an extremely specific color mauve-pink from Armani that they bring out and discontinue every few years (right now it’s Rouge D’Armani 502). It’s very annoying, but it’s fairly regular so I buy backups of backups. I’ve had the color custom blended too, but the Armani formula is tough to match, let alone beat and the color goes with everything.

lizalea Avatar

I love to experiment with my eye-shadow, but I guessed my default would be either a green and gold combo or silver and mauve. Usually a nude lip and I mix it up on the blush depending if I’m going for cool tones or warm tones.

I don’t know I know I don’t like Blues and Certain blue greens & very Dark blacks and brown colors but sometimes I try different combinations and I am surprised that I like them very much. I like coral colors, beige’s, bronze, platinum, plums, red and pinks. Burgundy. There are so many for the eyes but also I like coral and plum color for the cheeks. Plum, Coral and pinks for the lips.

Genevieve Avatar

For lipsticks, I nearly always go to the shade ranges of brown/bronze to russet tones. In summer, I prefer a peachy lip
I always use a peachy/coral blush
Eyeshadows: neutrals a lot lately, olive greens/golds, shades of grey. In summer I tend to use a very soft blue/navy.

Bon Bon Avatar

I’ve turned to fuscia lip color in recent months. I’m a champaign and browns eye shadow kind of girl with the occasional dark gray. A burnt mauve cheek if that’s a color shade…not pink or rosie. I never leave home made up and without my UD highlighters.

Primpcess Avatar

I have been doing golds and blue eyeshadow with a neutral or pale gold lip. Or purple and grey, any combo. In the summer I also liked doing bright coral lips with royal blue eyeliner. My everyday basic look has been black eyeliner and fuschia pink lips.

Warm neutrals, mostly. Specifically — for eyeshadows, warm neutrals — peanut butter-y, caramel, umber ranges; siennas, copper, and warm burgundies as well as warm off-whites for accent. Eyeliners — warm neutrals and golds, blues, shimmery purple to pink. Blush — red corals. Lips — from sheer warm reds to pink corals; also warm sparkly berry tones especially for nights out.

Celesta Avatar

Huh, I don’t think I have a go-to color combo for anything! I try to mix it up as much as I can because I really enjoy using the full range of my collection and doing something different everyday. Lately (because, you know, fall), I’ve been loving the warm neutrals and darker/orangier/more vampy lips. I’m sure that will change with the seasons. 🙂
