We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Only Colourpop. I got on the ABH, Essence, Bite, Catrice and OCC train without social media. Does no one walk up and down the aisles of Ulta, Sephora, Target etc lol. I want to try Juvia’s Place. I hate shopping online!

I don’t like shopping for makeup online, either.

I spend a lot of time browsing in makeup stores, comparing and swatching products. I discover most brands this way (ABH, KvD, NYX, etc.). Then I look them up online. Somehow, I had never noticed Bite Beauty in stores until after I heard about it online.

I’m too indecisive when shopping online. I bought something from Sephora online and it literally took me 6 hours. I got two things. Funny all the brands mentioned here, just makes me so uninterested. I can only wear so much. I don’t need to buy from 50 million different brands lol. There is only so much new and much of it os gimmicky. Yeah, it’s all just not for me:)

Maybe we all should start wearing one color on one side of our face and another look on the opposite side of our face like Christine does when she’s testing new products, lol. That way we could use more of our stash. ????

Same here. I love to walk down makeup isles and skin care I call ‘doing my research’ the only one would be Colourpop super shock eyeshadows and do I love them but prefer to see it in my hand and swatch if able to. After watching millions YouTube they don’t end influencing me much I’m sort of the fish Dorothy ‘Oh look it that color!’ Look that must be new and shiny’! Lol! And I’ll forget any advice and get whatever I (almost) screamed for or delights me on the spot. I’m a total mess. Lol!

Far, far, far too many! The Ordinary, ColourPop, Jouer, Sugarpill, Dose Of Color, Kat Von D, Bite and even Nyx are all ones I’ve actually bought products from this far having been introduced to them via Social Media. But I’ve also got a slew of brands that I plan to buy from in the foreseeable future! Coloured Raine, Melt, Juvia’s Place, Makeup Geek and Catrice are the ones that immediately come to mind.

A few that come readily to mind are Nabla Cosmetics, Feral, Devinah, Pretty Vulgar, Fyrinnae, Storybook, Australis, Lit and ColourPop.
I have also found several Asian/South Korean brands via YT, Blogs and Instagram. I have ordered from Heimish, Laneige, Sulwhasoo, Tatcha, Saem, Missha, Chosungah 22, Etude House and many more. The only problem I have when ordering products from Asian brands is that I don’t speak or read the language so I don’t always know if I am using the products correctly. So far, I have been pretty happy with my purchases. I can’t really see and test most of these products so I generally will order a small curated collection of products that appear to go together and try those and if I like them expand my purchases. Colored products, E/S, blush, lipsticks and highlighters are pretty easy but foundations can be really hard. I have made a couple of bad purchases but overall I am happy with my experiences.

No, I haven’t Lesley. Thank you for the suggestion. I am super intrigued by the Asian brands and their use of good skin care products in their makeup. I will check them out on Reddit.

The Japanese overseas brand. The Indie brands. I check out Temptalia for USA Indie brands.
No le gusto those made in China. Christine is kind enough to take pictures as to where these Indie brands are made. Save me time to research or figure out where the product is made.
Saves me time to figure out if that product is for me or not with her pictures.

Instagram has made life easier to check the product out.

So many! Most I discover here on your blog. One of my favorites that I love is Bite (purchased after seeing your reviews). Then a few on Instagram like Colourpop and Juvia’s Place, and a few on Reddit like Beauty Bakerie, Zoeva, The Ordinary and lots of AB brands as well. =)

Most of the brands I shop at I learned about through social media. To name a few: MAC, Make Up For Ever, Makeup Geek, Dose of Colors, Kylie, Bite, Kat Von D, Nyx, Jouer, Strobe Cosmetics, Nabla Cosmetics…
And these are just some of the ones I like/have liked! This doesn’t include ones I didn’t like or haven’t tried yet (like Beauty Bakerie and Coloured Raine)

Oh golly, A LOT because I only go to the US once a year so I have to ‘study up’ online as to what’s worth buying!
Kiko, Bh Cosmetics, Sedona Lace, Coastal Scents, Pat McGrath, MUFe, MU Revolution, Illamasqua, Jouer, Trish McEvoy., Kanebo Sensai, Koh Gen do, Le Metier, Napoleon Perdis, Milani, Jordana, ColourPop, Anstasia, Morphe, OCC, Bite, Catrice, Essence, City Color, Juvia’s Place, Makeup Geek- the list goes on.

I used to be a dept store snob because in the 80’s DS makeup was crap. But after seeing reviews of so many great DS products online I buy just as much DS as dept store!

I learn about new brands only from social media now. It used to be from the magazines, but social media pretty much has replaced magazines for me. I am nostalgic for the magazines of my youth, however. October was the beauty issue month and I waited for it all year.

Deborah Avatar

I’m the same way about missing the days of finding the latest and greatest makeups and makeup trends in magazines! (InStyle has a little bit.) I remember Teen Magazine and Seventeen Magazine being great fun!

If Temptalia is social media then brands that I’ve discovered via this site and which I was able to purchase in person (since I don’t like buying online) would be Tarina Tarantino (sadly no longer around), LORAC (ditto in Canada), Anastasia, BITE, Kat von D and MUFE. There are probably more but those are the ones that come to mind most readily.

Seraphine Avatar

Through social media, I’ve learned about so many brands I’d never heard of. The brands that most piqued my interest are ColourPop, Bite Beauty, and Coloured Raine, which I have yet to try out. Also, Sigma for brushes.

There are some brands that I was aware of their existence, but never paid attention to them until I saw them on social media. I have seen Estee Lauder counters all my life and never bothered with them, but while searching social media sites for foundation recommendations, Double Wear came up so often and with such positive reviews, I had to try it, and now it’s my favorite foundation. So, in a sense, I “discovered” Estee Lauder through social media.

Other than ABH and those infamous Kylie lip kits, I learned about SUVA beauty from my explore page on Instagram — and I ordered from them and was not impressed by them. I got the hydraliners in neon orange, neon green, and white, and I thought they were basically expensive, glorified face paint. I also heard about Black Moon Cosmetics from vegan beauty instagrammers and am really interested in trying the brand. Almost every other indie brand I know (except Colourpop and Sugarpill), I’ve learned of through your blog.

DVa Avatar

Makeup Geek, Lime Crime, Colourpop, Morphe, BH Cosmetics, Jouer, Sugarpill, RMCA, Beauty Bakerie, I’ve ordered all on online (except Beauty Bakerie) as they are impossible to get (or limited) in Canada.

maria Avatar

All the ones that you mentioned Christine plus Jouer but the only one that I really purchase out of all of them is Anastasia and maybe one or two items from Jouer.

Whatever’s not in Sephora, I’ve heard of through social media (mostly here and Youtube). Discovered as in *purchased*? Only Wet n’ Wild (various products picked up in US as it’s hard to find in Canada), essence (pure nude highlighter) and Colourpop so far – just placed an order for the Fem Rosa palette today.
