What beauty product have you been using the longest?

What beauty product have you been using the longest? That product you remain loyal to?

You could say MAC in general, since I still use plenty of MAC products even after seven years. As far as specific products go, Osmotics Cream Extreme is something I still make sure I have on hand, and I think that’s been a 4-5 year relationship!

In my short 1.5 years of using beauty-related products, I’d definitely have to say I’ve been using Paula’s Choice skin care products the longest (probably 1 FULL year), which is very long for me!

I haven’t used a makeup item consistently since I took SO long to find an acceptable foundation, powder, concealer, etc…

Oh wait, I HAVE been using my beloved Bobbi Brown Long Wear Cream Shadow in Ash, which is now discontinued :(( for a year too! Maybe even longer. I actually stumbed on to this product, and I absolutely fell in love with it for filling in my brows. It’s so creamy, which allows it to hold my brow hairs together, but dries to to being very transfer-resistant. It’s perfect! I have about 5 backups, but eventually they’ll run out.

Suggestions anyone? In terms of color, texture, longevity? xD I’ve already tried and swatched virtually every cream shadow, cream/gel liner, etc… in the department store and Sephora, and I haven’t found something that’s matte, a medium and slightly cool brown color, and that’s a cream.

I’ve been so desperate that I’ve actually looked in the drug store, where there are no testers. I tried the Maybelline Tattoo Cream Shadow in Tough as Taupe. Unfortunately, it’s too taupe, or grey for my brows. It completely changes my look, so that didn’t work.

Wow, I went off in a completely different tangent! Haha!

Have you tried Illamasqua’s Hollow? It’s a cream pigment that’s a cool brown. I don’t suppose it’d be long wearing, though. It’s matte and light-medium to medium-ish brown. Might work. If you haven’t checked it out, yet, it might be worth a go! 🙂

John Avatar

Ooh I’ll check out out next time I go down to South Coast! Thanks!

Though I’m not sure it will work since the color does look quite light online, not to mention that it’s mineral oil base will probably be too greasy and will transfer everywhere. However, like I said, I will take a look. Thanks, Miss J!

Miss J Avatar

You’re welcome, and let me know if it works when you’re able to test it out! It’s something I use as a contour. It definitely does look lighter online than when swatched in person. I don’t have experience with the BB product you mentioned, so I couldn’t make exact comparisons between the two products. Good luck on your search for a similar product!

Lark Avatar

John, you could set it with transparent powder, MACs is of course great but e.l.f. makes a really good one too. And e.l.f. has a brow kit with a wax- and-powder Old School style. Pretty dark too. Have you looked at brow kits? There’s a lot out there, just under the radar. Very much like what you want. And tinted brow set? Packaged like mascara but for eyebrows. I know MAC has good ones. And again- set with transparent powder to make matte-er. I love that stuff!

John Avatar

Yeah, I could set with a powder. But then I can just use a powder eyeshadow, which there are plenty that are similar in color to the BB that I mentioned, and set with a brow gel. And of course, I can use a brown mascara-like product. Same goes for the brow kits.

However, I guess I’m just spoiled because I stumbled on to this PERFECT all-in-one product that shapes, fills, holds, and allows my brows to last all day! So until I’m about to run out of my last backup, I’m not going to stop looking! I’ll probably be done in 2 years since I do have 5 backups.

But thanks for the suggestion. I do know that there are options out there, and with some work, I could probably achieve the same effect that I have with the Bobbi. It’s just so convenient and consistently excellent that I’d rather just keep looking for a dupe/replacement.

But thanks for taking the time to type that all out, Lark!

Guess we’ll see. 🙂

In general: Urban Decay eyeshadows (Sin is still a favorite of mine), about four years.

Specifically: Maybelline Full ‘N’ Soft Mascara, probably six years. Also Burt’s Bees lip balm for a couple years now!

Over 20 years. Lucidity Foundation by Estee Lauder. I wish it was in a jar not in a bottle so I can get the last drop out with the end of my eyeliner brush….I changed through many foundations over the years in between, but I always go back to Lucidity. It is a wonder Estee never discontinued it. I tried other Estee foundations also as samples and always always come back to Lucidity. Even my skin texture has changed throught the years, but I still can use Lucidity. Plus I always get a nice free gift when I buy it. I always feel Estee colors are Caucasian skin color, but Lucidity works for me.

I have used so many brands like MUFE, Chanel, YSL, Caron, Dolce N Gabbana…all good foundations, but Lucidity foundation makes me feel like I am not wearing foundation. That is the key of looking like you are not wearing a mask…and feel like you are not wearing a mask.

Since 2008, MAC Carbon has been my go-to eyeshadow… In general I love MAC products, maybelline and l’oreal are also brands I’ve been using for years.

I’ve been using Cover Girl’s Fresh Complexion concealer for probably 10 years or so?

It tends to get bad reviews from people who’ve used it as an undereye concealer, but I use it to conceal redness and blemishes, and it’s always done well for me. I get along best with liquid concealers in general, though!

I’ve been using Urban Decay’s brow box in honey pot for over 3 years now. I have light colored and thin eyebrows so I use it to shape and fill. For the last year I’ve been using it with MAC’s sculpt eyebrow pencil though. Works great for me! I’ve gone through 5 or 6 brow boxes by now, I use it every day. But the longest product I used is MAC’s Lustre Drops in Pink Rebel. I’ve had those since it was released with the ’07 Neo Sci Fi collection, but I wouldn’t necessarily count it since it rarely gets used. Only on my 2nd bottle of that.

Miss J Avatar

I would say MAC’s Studio Finish. I have been using this for eight years consistently. It’s something I repurchase every single time it runs out or is about to run out. I’ve sampled plenty of other concealers, but never end up purchasing the full size. Now, it’s a different story when it comes to concealer for under the eyes because I haven’t found that perfect one for me, yet…currently, I’m trying out Pro Longwear for that. I’m not sure when Fluidlines came out, but I have been using Blacktrack Fluidline from MAC since it released for my liner, and I don’t plan on changing it unless it’s discontinued. Blacktrack is probably my 2nd product that I’ve continuously used for the longest amount of time.

I ve been using for some years OLAY radiance day cream, it has changed since I got it first it was in a tube and it was a marvellous day cream, so fresh, moisturising and lightweight. Then it got in a pump consistency slightly changed, now it is in a jar, constistency has changed a little more. Its a lot different now.

If “beauty” includes skincare (I assume it does, since the question doesn’t ask what “makeup” you’ve been using the longest), then it would probably be Erno Laszlo’s pHelityl oil and sea mud soap. For a cosmetic item, MAC Desert Rose blush – I’ve had that baby for 10 years or more and use it pretty often and while I hit pan on it ages ago, it is still going strong.

Jeanne Avatar

I’ve been using Estee Lauder’s Maximum Cover Camouflage for nearly 7 years now, it was the first concealer that I bought that I liked. I have yet to find a liquid concealer that has as full coverage (I do have the MUFE HD Concealer but the coverage from that is not as full as my Estee one).

Clinique dramatically different moisturizing lotion for a long time, many years. Aveeno body moisturizer with bare escentuals faux tan over it after a shower creates a nicely moisturized body with the perfect tan!
Tarte lights camera lashes! Mascara for the last year. Perfect mascara for me, the best out there for volume and length!

NeenaJ Avatar

Cetaphil. It’s been a staple for me for over 20 years and, even though I might stray occasionally to try something more glamourous, I always come back to it because it’s the best for my skin.

t_zwiggy Avatar

My beloved Jane Iredale PurePressed foundation in Warm Silk! I’ve been using it for about 7-8 years now, and it’s the only foundation I’ve found that works for me (I have extremely oily skin). It’s one of those product that I just don’t think I could be without.

Some other products that I’ve also used for a fairly long time are Helena Rubinstein Lash Queen mascara (5 years), Laura Mercier cake eyeliner (3-4 years) and Anastasia brow powder duo (3-4 years).

Have been using Clinique’s Different Lipstick in Bronze Leaf for so many years. Other than that, the next longest might be Smashbox Jet Set eyeliner in Midnight Black. It lasts so long too so I might only have ever bought 2-3 jars of it. 🙂 Also tied with that (I bought at the same time) would be the Smashbox PhotoFinish lipstick in Enchanted. Seems to be discontinued now but I bought one extra one last time I bought one. It’s going to hurt whenever I run out of that last one.

Maybelline Volum Express Mascara!
I recently was going through my parent’s storage and found one of my old purses from high school (10+ years ago) and there was a tube of this in there. It’s still my favorite mascara!

Shrutilaya Avatar

I’ve been using beauty products for just over a year and a half now..
But I’ve been using my MAC Studio Fix Fluid, Blacktrack fluideline and Nars Casino Bronzer everyday, all these months.
I’ve also been using the Bobbi Brown Corrector for about a year now and it’s the best thing for dark circles 🙂

Valerie Avatar

Up until a month ago it would have been bare minerals! That was a 6 year love!current longest used item would probably beorgasm blush which I’ve been using for about 2 1/2 years followed by purity by philosophy facewash for a year and a half.

Kat Avatar

I’ve been using Clinique’s spot healing gel for about 12 years.

Makeup-wise, UD Surreal Skin mineral foundation for maybe 5 years? Wow has it really been that long? Anyway the color Supernova is perfect for me so even when I occasionally try other foundations I always wind up going back.

alisa Avatar

For me it’s Maybelline Mascara (My first mascara was a maybelline mascara and now i still love maybelline especially one by one!!!) So for 2 years now. But other from that I discovered the Clinique anti blemish solutions toner and its THE BEST TONE IN THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD! I don’t have acne but for anyone who has a breakout or a pimple now and then, its PERFECT! Recommend it to normal, combo, oily skin, but now so much for dry skin.

2 beauty products that I’ve used forever (however, no particular brand) are lip balm and a sudsy facial cleanser. Everything else may change, but not those.

I bought an eyebrow pencil in Europe in like… 2001 that I still use! Don’t even know what brand it is, all the markings have rubbed off but it still works great!

stephanietp Avatar

ahh its soo hard to remember but!!
MAC well dressed blush, MAC tempting eyeshadow
MUFE eyeshadow, i forget the color but it is a very shimmery light grey-blue

Do soaps count? I’ve been using St Ives apricot scrub since I was a pre-teen, so that’s what, 20+ years now? I can’t live without it, other brands don’t do the trick. Boots no 7 Perfect & Protect serum since it came out, and Arden’s Illuminating Skin Complex. Everything else I change constantly.

AnnMarie Avatar

TGI’s Curls Rock line. I’ve been using it off and on for about 9 years. Makeup related; Benefit bad girls lash. Oh and Bare Minerals “Queen Phillys” its the only shadow I’ve actually used it all and had to replace it. Twice.

I can’t tell you how many tubes Maybelline Great Lash Big I’ve been through. This is my all time favorite mascara. I have used it for years; well before I every really got into makeup. Since I got into makeup about 2-2 1/2 years ago, the product that I’ve used the longest is MAC’s MSFN in Light. I think I’m on my third (fourth?) one.

Max Factor (everything!) was an absolute favorite of mine from the mid ’80’s until I could no longer find it in the US. Erace Concealer in White was what I used as an eyeshadow base long before primers were so available, and I loved the panstick foundation. Too bad it was not really appreciated here in the US…

Jaime R Avatar

MAC Desire lipglass! It was my first MAC purchase ever, and the only lipglass that I’ve ever used up completely. It’s been my go-to for 14 years!

Joni Avatar

My Urban Decay Ammo palette. It was my first “real makeup” besides a few drugstore eyeliners and mascaras that I smeared pretty clumsily around my eyes in middle school. My parents gave it to me as a present and I was super excited. I still have it and use it regularly and it’s horribly beat up and has gotten warped and covered in concealer that spilled on it. I had to superglue it back together at one point. But the shadows are still beautiful!

beachgal Avatar

Mine is tied I think between Mary Kay’s eye makeup remover (liquid), and eye makeup lid primer by Garden Botanica. I have used both since the mid 80’s!!! Never found another lid primer that I ever loved as much as this one – way ahead of the curve on this product being marketed.

Monika-Luiza Avatar

my Lancome mascara – I started to use lancome mascara when I was about 15 now I turn 30 this year and still haven’t found any other brand that makes such good mascaras (at least for my lashes and with the exception of Fatale and that vibrating one) there were some pretty descent drug store ones, but they are all discontinued now and I still stick to my lancome mascaras I thin I use use l’extreme for 5 years now . . .
