Wayne Goss Rose Gold The Air-Brush Review & Photos

The Air Brush Rose Gold
Wayne Goss The Air Brush Rose Gold ($40.00) is a smaller, flatter brush with a rounded, softly tapered edge. It looks a lot like a flattened blush brush in terms of shape, though it is a less dense brush that has an airy feel as it skates across the skin. The brush head is made out of blue squirrel hair. It’s 22mm in width, 35mm in length, and 14mm in thickness with a total length of 7.75 inches / 17 centimeters. I found it completely comparable in quality and purpose to the original Air-Brush (which is what was expected!).
I’ve enjoyed the brush for highlighting, powdering underneath the eyes, and applying cheek color. It can work for contouring, but I still find I prefer a more traditional, angled brush for contouring. The brush has a silky-smooth feel as it is worked across the skin, and there was never a moment, regardless of angle, motion, or technique, where I could feel an individual hair. I’ve had good luck with Wayne Goss brushes holding up well after many washes over the years, including the two original Air-Brushes I have already. You can check out my original review for a slightly more in-depth review on the brush.
Here’s the thing, though… other than the handle color, the brush head performed the same for me, and the original version (glossy black) is $5 cheaper, and the original is still available to purchase.

My feelings exactly…it is pretty but if you already own the original (or 3) there’s really no need for this one especially at the additional expense. If I didn’t have this brush in multiples I might consider it since it is pretty however part of me prefers the black as it matches the rest of my Goss brushes.
I find it hard to pay more just for packaging, lol!
2 Beautylish gift cards = air brush. Debated a bunch over whether one needed two. Well, maybe not really, but from my p.o.v., best (pseudo-free) purchase ever. Good reminder that I could have saved, but having different colors can make it easy to find. And yes, I did soft it on my face for a few hours, with zero product. Have to get in touch with my inner blue squirrel…
Enjoy your brushes, KJH! 🙂
I knew there wouldn’t be a difference in quality or performance!!!!! Thank you for getting rid of my FOMO — I already own four (it’s my fave brush!!) of the original and CANNOT justify buying this, no matter how pretty it is. His original is gorgeous too!
Sounds like a good plan to skip 🙂 Just think… this way, they all match 😉
Pleeeeease don’t tell me that four are usable/reasonable, too. It could just be in the brush hall of fame. I can’t believe I s.t. play with it color free! It feels sooooo nice.
I am not even kidding when I say this — I bought four because I NEVER, for the rest of my life, want to be without this brush. I’m probably going to be buried with it too, LOL
It’s so cute!
Glad you like it!
I would love to have a bigger flat brush like that for applying finishing powder. Do you know of any?
Make Up For Ever’s 128 comes to mind, though I mean, it is a lot denser since it is larger and for powder. My guess is that would be too much bigger + denser.
Other suggestions…
Hakuhodo Ougi Maru (fairly large but has the same airy, feathery quality of the Air Brush), but it is pricey. Hakuhodo’s G5545 I think is similar in flatness, not quite as airy/feathery, but would be larger and not super dense and has a more palatable price point (well, you know, for these types of brushes!).
Thanks so much Christine! I’m going to check those out. 🙂
Pami, I just have to say that I got a LE WG Anniversary large paddle brush a few years ago and it was very pricey. I can’t remember how much, but it was up there. But, I love that brush so much and it is perfect for finishing powders. So, I just wanted to chime in and tell you that even though they’re pricey, a large flat ‘paddle’ type brush is perfect for finishing powders. And, I love my finishing powders! So, to me, the price was worth it. And, good luck with your search!
Thanks for the tip Anne! Hopefully WG will bring it back. I didn’t even know that style was called a paddle brush.
And here’s a website you might find helpful. Her blog is mostly about brushes:

Crap..It’s really freaking pretty.. but I already have two in the standard black. I’m love this brush for spot powdering
What powder do you usually use with it?
La Mer! I’m not sure about the new version though. I have and have hoarded 2 big tubs of the old in The Powder 01 creme.. now on last one ?
I’ll be curious how the new one lives up… I am sure that you’ll give it a shot after you’re out of the backups you have 😉 Or do you plan to try something totally different? I sit here and wonder what I’ll do post-Burberry Trench Eyeshadow, my go-to brow bone highlight.
I confess to having brief flings with others: laura mercier and surrat, but there is something special about the finish of La Mer and I akways go back. I do prefer Mercier in the humidity of summer. LoL I too have stewed and worried about life beyond. The new version does not have shade selection; just transparent. Ugh.
Ahh, then the new is almost guaranteed to be different in some way, I think.
Thankfully, a brow bone highlighter is really of little consequence compared to a good setting powder, but it has always been nice to have an easy “go-to” in that department. I never feel bad about using that when a palette has no appropriate brow bone highlighting shade at all!
It’s so frustrating when you finally find a truly HG product and then it is discontinued or the formula and/or color has changed!
Exactly!!!
I was stopped in my tracks with blue Squirrel Hair. How is that harvested? I never really think about these things…but something about that statement just turned my stomach.
If you ask most of the brush companies, their response is something along the lines that the hair is a by-product, e.g. they are not killed for hair specifically. I’ve also seen a few brands say it’s collected without harming the animal, though I think that is more plausible with goat and horse hair (vs. squirrel).
I love this brush and use it everyday for buffing powder all over my face and/or over blush if I’ve been heavy handed. I’m not sure it has retained the sharp shape it had when brand new, though I wouldn’t give it a second thought to use it for blush, bronzer, and highlighter in a pinch. I bought the rose gold brush as a practical novelty.
Interesting to hear that you use it for buffing powder all over! I find I need something a bit larger, but I do love and use this brush all the time 🙂
