Tutorial - Smoky Blue-Green with a Touch of Gold
This tutorial is designed to show you step-by-step how to create a bold look of green and blue. Feel free to ask questions!
You will need: Rollickin’ paint pot (aqua), Gorgeous Gold eyeshadow (green-gold), Freshwater eyeshadow (blue), Deep Truth eyeshadow (dark blue), Electric Eel eyeshadow (neon blue), White Tie eyeshadow (white-gold highlight), Feline kohl power (black liner). I wore Hipness blush (coral) with Daisylight beauty powder (yellow-gold) on cheeks. I had Strawbaby lipstick (pink coral) with Apex 3D glass (orange) on my lips.
Brushes: 219, 239, 249
Get the step-by-step instructions with photos…
This is what you need.
1. Start with a clean eye-space; if you fill-in your brows, you’re welcome to do them now [or later].
2. With the 249, apply Rollickin’ paint pot all over lid.
3. Pull it outwards to be able to cover your entire lid area.
4. This is what it should look like.
5. With the 239 brush, pick up a generous amount of Gorgeous Gold eyeshadow and apply to inner lid.
6. Like so.
7. With the 239, pick up Freshwater eyeshadow and apply it to the middle of the ild.
8. Pull it downwards to cover the entire outer portion of the lid.
9. Apply more as needed to get it to a good consistency and color.
10. Apply Deep Truth eyeshadow to the outer lid using the 239 brush, bringing it from the outer crease downwards towards the lash line.
11. Pull the brush downwards to deposit the eyeshadow color.
12. Using the 239 brush, apply Deep Truth eyeshadow in the outer crease.
13. Pull the brush outwards to help blend the color out.
14. Apply Electric Eel eyeshadow using the 239 brush over the middle-outer lid.
15. Blend it outwards, overlapping it with the outer lid.
16. Apply Gorgeous Gold eyeshadow, using the 239 brush, above the crease.
17. Pull it outwards to cover the entire area.
18. This is what you have now.
19. Using the 239, apply White Tie eyeshadow underneath the inner brow.
20. Move the brush outwards to highlight the entire brow bone.
21. With the 219, apply White Tie eyeshadow to the inner tear duct.
22. Apply Gorgeous Gold eyeshadow to the lower lash line with the 219 brush.
23. This is what you should have.
24. With the 239 brush, gently tap Electric Eel eyeshadow to the outer lower lash line.
25. Like this.
26. Add black liner, mascara, and finish.
Great look Christine. It’s pretty bold on the eyes…like BAM! I just wonder why your lips always seem to look the same color. I just think that’s a little strange unless you’re using the same color every tutorial?
I’ve been meaning to ask this. Can you please explain the glycerin base that you sometimes use? I didn’t see it explained this time and I’ve just always wondered what the purpose of that is and why it is so special?
Gosh you are so pretty! You should be a model! 😉
Thanks Vanessa 😛
Really pretty! This look makes your pop even more than normal!
Thanks, Critty 😀 Good to know!
i love this it reminds me of pretty ocean h2o, btw do you use generous amounts of eyeshadow or just a little bit?
Hey Esme! Thanks! I use a generous amount of only a few shadows, normally I do just a swipe or two – if I need more, I’ll just go back.
Ohh it’s so pretty Christine, I am counting the days til the Fafi release here!
Thanks, Stacey!
great tut christine. question – i know you added the white tie at the tear duct coz the effect will open/ brighten your eyes. for tan girls, is white too stark? (i have crystal avalanche) or can you recommend a colour that will give the same effect for darker skin. thanks!
Thanks, Natasha! I’m NC30, which is considered tan, or at least moderately so. You can always do more of a white-gold color, which would be less stark.
Beautiful, girlfriend. I love this on you! The blue really brings out your eyes.
Thanks, Karen 🙂
hey natasha! i have olive toned skin and am a little darker, too.. i usually use a reeeaaally light dusting of going bananas or ricepaper (but i usually tend to like my tear duct a little brighter than my browbone and i use ricepaper as my highlighter.) i think going bananas works well for me cause it’s a frost and the yellowish shimmer makes it look more natural, but that’s just me! try it out and see how you like it! :o)
thanks for the tip jes : )
That’s a great tip, thanks for sharing it with us, Jes!
Hey Christine, another lovely look! The blue really suits you. Did you wear this look to school?
Thanks! Nope, spring break this week. I didn’t wear this anywhere, LOL.
Christine!!
looks SO GOOD!! :]]]]
do more looks, they’re like my FAVORITE!!!
<3<3<3
-Renee :b
Aww, thanks, Renee! I’ll try!
Yay! Something new to try!
That’s great, ANgie, let me know how it works!
Oh la la! I love the blue on you! HAHAHA it rhymes! LOL
Aw, thanks Sash, lol!
this is beautiful! I just love the blues!
Thanks so much, Charlene 🙂
gorgeous look Christine!
thanks for the tutorial. What es do you reccomend to replace white tie?
thanks
xoxo
My pleasure, Nunu! Try Nylon!
Gosh i love your eye makeup, and eyes.
Its stunning.
Is there an alternative beside mac cosmetics for some eyeshadows?
Where i live, in Australia its around $35 per eyeshadow for a small pot.
I understand MAC is a top quality brand, and so obviously the price is higher than most makeup brands.
Thanks, Jessica! You can try any eyeshadow, honestly. I don’t know what brands are more reasonable in Australia, but you can certainly substitute using similar colors!
You could try Red Earth cosmetics.Their eyeshadows are quite good.
Thanks for the tip, Anj! I think I might have a couple of their products to test, actually.
Very Pretty. I love blues! I wanna try this one. I dont have Rollickin’ paint pot (and I’m currently on a budget LOL) but I do have Sea Me S/S. I was thinking of mixing Sea Me with another bluish green like Steamy or shimmermoss. Do you think that would be similar? Or would Sea Me make it too blue? Since you’re the expert 😉
Very Nice Christine!
Thanks, Dawn 🙂 You could definitely use Sea Me instead! It would make it pretty blue, but if you layered Shimmermoss over it, I think it’ll be okay. Maybe even Aquadisiac if you had that!
I loved it, Great Job! I am waiting for the heatherette edition to come out. I didn’t really care for the fafi collection, even though i did purchase some eyeshadow.
But your eye shadow reminds me of a mermaid.
Thanks, Reese! Heatherette is only a week away, yay!
Hi Christine im new to the site but i’ve been checking it everyday since Jan. and i was just wondering are most of the eyeshadows that you have on your looks or tutorials M.A.C. or other products . because i’ve been looking for alot of the colors and i haven’t found them yet. And i love all of your looks and tutorials by the way.
Thanks, Kachelle! Glad you decided to comment 🙂 Unless I specify otherwise, the products I use are MAC!
STUNNING! I wish I could wear this to work, dammit. I love this colour combination and the placement. Very, very pretty, Christine!
Is it just me, or does Strawbaby look fab on everyone? Looks great on you. I’m half way through mine already so I had to buy a back-up!
Thanks, Skyler 😀 LOL, it is rather bold for the office, isn’t it?
Strawbaby is a great color, I can’t believe you’re half way through, though! I don’t know if I’m half way through ANY lipstick.
OHH CHRiSTiNE!! BEAUTiFUL COMBO!! AND AS ALWAYS YOUR TUTORIALS ARE THE BEST!!
Aww, thank you so much hun!
Wow!!! YOu make it looks so easy!
Just takes practice, then it gets easy 🙂 Thanks Charmaine!
Again, my gosh, you have way too much makeup on! You don’t have to put on so much in order to be “pretty”. Less is more!
I appreciate you sharing your opinion, Pearl! I subscribe to a different theory that makeup doesn’t have to be simple to be pretty, there is an artistic aspect of makeup that makes it fun and wearable AND pretty.
hi, I just foundyour site today browsing. are you a make -up artist or you just do this for fun? I am a freelance artist myself, and your techniques are awesome.
Natalie
Hi Natalie! I just do this for fun 🙂 Thank you, I’m flattered!
this is so so pretty.
I was just wondering if you think the blues will turn out the same if I used delft instead of rollickin?
Hey Tasha! I think they will turn out quite similar with Delft instead! I’d go for it.
That looks so good on you i must try it i don’t really know how to apply makeup good so, hopefully your step by step tutorial will help me THANKS!!!
Thanks, Rayann! Just practice, practice, practice — this is all I ever do, and I feel it’s definitely helped me!
I love all your tutorials…you’re amazing! I think I’m going to use this look for prom because the theme is ‘under the sea’. Thanks much!! ♥
