Top 10 of 2012: Eyeshadows
Top 10 of 2012: Eyeshadows
These are my top ten powder eyeshadows (I say that, because there were a few cream eyeshadows I thought about including, but there were so many powder ones I wanted to include, too!). I’m not going to do a breakout for cream eyeshadows specifically, but know that Milani’s Shadow Eyez and Maybelline Color Tattoos would be taking honors on that list! There were numerous L’Oreal Infallible and Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill Intense shades to choose from, too, so I went with my personal shade favorites. 🙂
- Make Up For Ever #303 — Holodiam powder is glittery fun
- OCC Overlook — plum
- Bobbi Brown Slate — matte taupe
- L’Oreal Golden Emerald — shimmering olive green
- Illamasqua Burst — matte blue-teal
- MAC Modern Pewter — dirty gold
- Burberry Pale Barley — warm medium-dark brown
- Chanel Complice — shimmering beige
- Milani Shocking Pink — matte fuchsia pink
- Giorgio Armani #24 — dirty olive-gold-brown
they were sold out of Modern Pewter at my MAC counter when I went to get it so I had to console myself with Havana, which is lovely. Other single shadows which I love that I’ve purchased this year are Inglot 419 and 422, Nars Habanera, Maybelline Colour Tattoo in Bad to the Bronze, L’Oreal Infallible in Bronze Divine (I think it’s the Canadian equivalent of Gleaming Bronze) and Chanel Illusion d’Ombre in Ebloui.
Yeyyy Golden Emerald by L’Oreal is amazing! I purchased it just because of your review ( I almost never used green eyeshadows) and I felt in love with the color and the golden shine! I also purshased some other neutral colors from the line and I love them!
Thrilled you are loving it!
Probably OCC Cruising – was that released this year? I bought it this year so I’m counting it 🙂 I also liked a couple of the MAC Extra Dimension ones like Modern Pewter and Stolen Moment.
How did I miss that OCC Purple!? WOW! its gorgeous!
I agree with that Loreal green & MAC modern pewter… I just wish MAC could turn out more products like this!!
P.S. Happy New Year Christine!!
Happy new year, Wenz!
I really have to try the Illamasqua shadows I haven’t yet. Same with OCC.I like everything else I’ve tried from those brands so will check out the ones you listed for sure. Mine were Stila Kitten & Bubbly ( I know Kitten isn’t new but it was still a fav of mine for the year). I know a lot of people don’t like Tarte shadows but I’m so fair that just about anything shows up on me haha so I did use them a lot this year too.
The ones they launched as a set (I think it was five or six) were amazing overall — Burst was one of them, but Pivot and Obsidian were great, too.
Thanks for the suggestions! I love your recommendations because you are always honest. 🙂
I don’t buy many *single* shadows (too many palettes to buy, LOL), but I did buy UD Loaded this year in the new formula. The few others I picked up had been around for a while. That said, Loaded is probably one of my favorite shadows of all time, and I justified picking up the Smoked palette since I wanted to pick up a backup, and it was a better deal along with Rockstar & Mushroom, which were always sold out.
So happy/relieved to see L’Oreal’s Golden Emerald on this list! Looking back on all the makeup I’ve bought or tried this year, this eyeshadow would be my pick for top eyeshadow! It’s just a gorgeous shimmery color, no photo does it justice and every time I wear it, I get compliments! I recommend to all!
I would’ve never bought it without reading about it here (in general don’t buy products by L’Oreal) so I thank you for that Christine!
Happy to share 🙂 It’s such a fantastic shade – so sparkly!
I bought Golden Emerald, it really is unique and beautiful. I’m wearing it now and it STILL hasn’t creased.
That is awesome sauce!!
Overall, my favorites have been the MAC extra dimension shadows. Not thrilled with the smaller size, but do love the formula.
Laura Mercier Gilded Moonlight was probably my favorite eyeshadow of 2012. I didn’t think a gold shadow would impress me, but this one does!
Wonderful choices, Christine! Do you know how Chanel Complice compares to the Illusion D’Ombre Emerveille?
Darker to me – more frosted, too!
The GA Eyes To Kill are the best!
I don’t know if the Armani Eyes to Kill Silk shadows were originally released in 2012, but I discovered them last year, so the silk shadow in No. 9 is my personal eyeshadow of the year. I love the soft sparkle and it is wearable at work.
Mac Modern Pewter and L’oreal Infalliable in Gleaming bronze (i think it was a limited edition one)
I love these lists. Seeing pics of stuff I don’t remember or haven’t seen is so much fun! That Armani #24 looks AMAZING in the pic.
I loved MAC Mineralize Eyeshadow in Twilight Falls – it´s the only Mineralize ES I’ve liked enough to buy and it turned out to be a very pretty shimmering dark brown :)!
