Glitter and Spice and Everything Nice

Make Up For Ever #303 Holodiam Powder ($25.00 for 0.035 oz.) is described as “white with blue, green, and gold highlights.” When applied to the skin alone, it looks like a mix of lavender, violet, green-gold, and silver. Patted over black eyeliner, it looked blue and gold at one angle, then green and teal at the next. It’s somewhat like Illamasqua Beguile. I suspect MAC Reflects Transparent Teal would also be a bit similar.

Make Up For Ever’s Holodiam Powder is a new and limited edition loose powder for the holidays that’s described as an “extremely fine loose powder with a pearlescent finish.” It can be used on eyes and cheeks, wet or dry, as desired.  On its own, it doesn’t stay put well, so my best advice is to use an adhesive base, cream eyeshadow, fixing spray/seal, or patted onto some makeup base before it’s had time to dry (foundation, eyeliner, etc.).  It’s fine micro-glitter, and I think it works well on the eyes–so thank goodness it’s safe for the eyes–but on the cheeks, it felt a little sand-like.  You might opt for one of the brand’s Star Powders for something finer.

I am so glad you reviewed this item! I was wondering what you’d think about it, and if you’d think it was similar to the reflects glitters from MAC. And now I know! 🙂 I’m still debating between this product or the Lorac 3D Liquid Lustre. I think this is prettier, but the Lorac seems so much more convenient. Both? *grin*

The LORAC 3D Liquid Lustre is *gorgeous*, and it’s very smooth. If you do buy it, keep in mind a (very) little goes a looooong way, and it’s very easy to over do it. On the upside, the glitters are so fine that if it does migrate a bit, it’s not OTT; the downside is it’s a bit difficult to remove it 100%, and you may find some stray bits lingering for a few days.

I have both, and yes, Tarina Tarantino’s is similar. I would say MUFE’s is finer, though, and doesn’t have that white base that TT’s has. I actually like MUFE’s better, despite its ridiculous price tag.

i want this soooooo badly but the price is outrageous in my opinion! $25 for 1 gram vs mac reflects which are $21 (whoa when did that price increase happen? weren’t they just $19?) for 4.5 grams!!

I’m not a glitter gal, normally. However my ears perk up at any mention of “holo.” I’m definitely going to swatch this when I go holiday shopping this weekend. Just the idea of FRICKIN LASERS on my eyelids makes me smile.

I have this, bought it maybe a month ago, and it’s not horrible but not my favorite. It’s pretty blue and cool almost icy. Even with glitter glue it doesn’t last me 10 hours. Although I don’t expect it to it would be nice to not have to reapply on my lunch break.

On top of other eye makeup I still prefer my lustre dops (wearing it today) but actually look forward to playing with this with nothing under it to get that snow angel look. I’m going to do 30 days of glitter in the December. Might as well enjoy glitter while it’s still in style (not that I follow trends religiously)

I was excited to try these out During IMATS Toronto. But I was sisappoint in the size for the price on the 4 of these. 🙁 They reflex type glitter alright. You get a lot more product from MAC and Lit Cosmetics.

For those who aren’t a fan of micro-glitter, sand-like texture, or who want a bit less fuss in application, I highly recommend the NARS Duo in Iceland. It’s essentially the exact same thing, minus the glitter, the chunks and the sand-like or obvious effect. One side is an iridescent white lavender, the other an iridescent white green. Both are extremely finely milled, sheer powder. On a black base, one side turns it into the most spectacular peacock turquoise, emerald, teal…. it’s so multi-faceted that it’s hard to describe. The other side can turn a black base into a sort of intense blue silver…. something. On a green base, one of them turns it into a gold… something. Again, it’s hard to describe. Also, I’ve put the more gold-like yellow one on red lipstick and it creates a super holiday effect that’s very unusual. I think trying to do that with the MUFE would be a bit gritty.

Iceland does cost a bit more, but for more product and with 2 diff. effects, in essence. It’s $34 for 0.14 oz, instead of $25 for 0.035 oz. Like much of NARS’ extensive permanent collection (64 eyeshadow duos, for example), it’s not always carried by every Sephora but it’s available online at a ton of places from NARS to Nordstrom to Barneys and more. It looks like this: http://www.barneys.com/NARS-Duo-Eyeshadow/00455403000117,default,pd.html

I saw these in Sephora last month and I ALMOST purchased both colors, but I decided I was being frugal at that moment and I put them back. I have been regretting it ever since…and these photos aren’t helping! lol

Hi, Christine!

I love your eye make- up. Could you please tell me which eyeshadows are you using in this look? Specially the purple one.

Thanks 🙂
