Quickie Reviews: Too Faced Metal Eyed Liquid Shimmer Eyeliners

Periodically, I do quickie reviews — these are products that I just don’t do full reviews for one reason or another, but I have photographed/swatched and–at the very least–briefly tested in some capacity, but perhaps not to the fullest extent. I figure if I’ve taken photos/swatches, the least I can do is show you!  (I can’t believe I’ve had these sitting in my photo folder since October.)

Too Faced Metal Eyed Liquid Shimmer Eyeliner Blackout ($17.50 each) are semi-sheer liquid eyeliners with lots of glitter and a fairly metallic finish. I swatched five shades…

  • Plum Crazy is a blue-based lilac violet with silver sparkle.
  • Dirt Bag is a deep cool-toned bronze with gold and red-brown sparkle.
  • Brown Sugar is a warmed-up molten chocolate brown with copper sparkle;
  • Handcuffs is a metallic silver with silver sparkle; and
  • Blackout is a charcoal black with silver sparkle.

These wear all day long, and the glitter stays put pretty well with only minor fall out, though all the shades are rather sheer when used as eyeliner. You really have to layer it on (and be sure to wait for each layer to dry) in order to get a richer, more opaque look. These do dry very quickly, so you’ll need to work fast to get that precise look. I like these best layered over a solid eyeliner (e.g. black) for a shimmer effect. As a water-based formula, they definitely feel wet and seem to have a thinner formula, but again, it dries down very quickly.

If you want to know more about how products are evaluated, read out Rating System FAQ! 🙂

  • Product: 24/30
  • Value: 8/10
  • Ease of Use: 4/5
  • Packaging: 4/5

RECOMMENDATION: For layering, these can be fun; if you’re looking for a rich, opaque glitter eyeliner, not so much.

We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! These look a lot better than Urban Decay Heavy Metal. I have most of the colors but don’t wear them because the glitter scratches up my eyes.

I like the colors of these, but I have two of them myself and they’re so annoying to put on and the color payoff isn’t even that good.

I was really excited when I bought the Brown Sugar one, but it disappointed me when I used it the first time: the brush is awful, it packs up too much product and it stings my eyelids! However the colors are lovely!

The only glitter eyeliner I have is from Hard Candy in Walmart (owned by Urban Decay) and from E.L.F which come in packs of two. I hate the applicator on the ELf one but no complaints. The hard candy one if it gets in your eyes does irritate though. I don’t use it during the day though, only at night.

Urban Decay doesn’t own Hard Candy. They were both at one time owned by the same parent company, but Urban Decay was sold to a private equity fund last year.

These look like they would show up better on your eyes by them selves then UD heavy metal, But i like UD heavy metal because the fact that its just one color glitter and clear gel, means you can layer it over pretty much any color eyeliner. I guess it depends on the effect you want.
