The Details

The Tom Ford SS18 Runway expresses the boldest dimensions of the Tom Ford woman—assertive, expensive and slightly dangerous.

Richly pigmented graphic eyes strike an audacious statement with high-shine Eye Gloss and the black palette of Shadow Extrême. Embellished with a glittering sparkle, the rounded winged eye look winks to the glamorous decadence of New York nightlife. Shade and Illuminate draws light to preternaturally gorgeous skin.

I am with Wendy. I have a real love for TF and have invested some serious $$ in products but this feels like phoning it in. I also just threw away another spoiled TF lipstick yesterday that made it less than a year. My TF fascination is waning.

Exactly! I’m tired of spending $54 for a tube that doesn’t even make it a year and a half before going bad. Even some of my Lips and Boys have started to turn. Not wasting my money on him anymore.

I too have a history of buying TF although probably over a year since I’ve done so. The problem is that the companies are pitching to the biggest demographic, those who can wear warm tones. And they have saturated that market. While not producing items for smaller demographics. So that leads to blogger overload, and it’s also going to drive out a log of bloggers. Because the audience is getting fed up with being shown variations on the same theme over and over. And so they are going to change the channel, except for the bloggers who get this, and are able to show different types of products.

Could not agree more with you. I’m waiting (and waiting) for one or more of the ultra-luxury brands to finally break the ultra-warm spell! I get that warm sold well at first, but surely the companies can skate for a year on the 7,000 warm palettes released in 2017 … and meanwhile mix it up just a tad.

But by mix it up, I don’t really mean black eyeshadow and eye goop.

I agree. IMO, TF products are utterly overrated. I can afford them, but every single item i’ve tried–foundation, blush, shadows, lipsticks–have been incredibly underwhelming. There’s so little about the line that’s innovative or even different from any mid-level line that I’ve stopped bothering to look. (Well, obviously I did here, but I was very curious about what other potential buyers thought about this repeat collection.) He’s been out for me for some time now.

Total pass for me. I have to agree with several others that this looks just like the 2015 Summer Soleil and I still have/use it. I am really bored with all the warm trend. Just like Shelley, I just threw out another Tom Ford full size lipstick that was less than a year old as it turned bad. Every TF lipstick that I have bought has turned bad before the year was out and being $54 a pop is very expensive.

Looks like I’m in the minority on this one, I love the look of the shadows in the Soleil palette. I’m not sure I could pull off the blush shade, perhaps with a super super light hand. The other items I can pass on. Oddly compared to many here, I’ve never had a TF lipstick go bad and I’ve had several for more than a year or two. That issue has always seemed to be with the nude and brown tones, mine happen to be pinks and plums. I’m still perplexed why that is.

Hi Christine, I think there are 2 collections in this post. One is the SS18 Runway Color collection (3 products) and the other is a Soleil collection that will be dropping pieces in dribs and drabs, as I understand.

Since I wasn’t following TF cosmetics when Softcore came out, I’ll be picking up the eye and cheek palette when a good offer comes along. I hate to point out that the palette retails for $155 and not $125. Womp.

The colors are not interesting much. I’ve had palette in similar tones already, so it doesn’t really do. Black eyeshadow is not my thing and I don’t understand eye gloss. Mine gloss on their own naturally xD

I like the look of the palette. Not enough to buy it as I find TF mostly overpriced and over hyped. The few products I have are nice enough, but not as excellent as the pricetag would suggest. Just me, of course, and I really want to like TF.
Black eyeshadow, most of us have so many we can hardly keep track of them I guess, at least I do.
And eye gloss, after less than a minute it looks like a disaster on my lids.

When a sparse release comes out like this and it doesn’t appeal to me, I find myself bargaining “well I guess I could get that piece” because I do like Tom Ford; I think after a while of not buying anything from a preferred brand, I get antsy and buy a piece just to have something new. I think the last thing I bought was a few lipsticks that had just been discontinued. Maybe I’m used to the steady clip of MAC’s releases, and also the amount in each release. Either way, this is most likely a pass. I say most likely because palettes are my weakness, but I have enough of those tones already. Eye gloss is not appealing to me in the slightest. I don’t care for the Shade and Illuminate duos and I can find a way to dupe the Shadow Extreme if I wanted a glittery black.

Countdown to 5 or 6 FFHs from now where I list the palette in a haul. ??
