This or That: Green-Teal-Blue Multichromes
There are so many cream blushes releasing this year! Today, I thought we’d take a look at two incredibly similar shades of multichrome eyeshadow and see if we could dial-in on why one makes more sense than the other. These are extremely similar, but it definitely made me think long and hard!

Reasons for Clionadh Trefoil: The color and finish give Trefoil an inkier quality to it as the black base was slightly richer, deeper, while the shine made it appear slightly more intense overall. The formula is more emollient, slightly creamier, so it had slightly better adhesion and longevity. I find that the shift stays more intense for longer–by an hour or so–compared to Mood Ring. If you’re someone who loves the look of eyeshadows applied wet but doesn’t want to actually use a dampened brush, Trefoil has that impact dry.
Reasons for Terra Moons Mood Ring: I think this is slightly easier to work with for someone who hasn’t used Multichromes before as the black base wasn’t quite as intense, so I felt it was more forgiving and easier to use. It wasn’t as emollient, which may be preferred for those who have oilier lids as sometimes denser, more emollient formulas can crease more readily. Because the finish on this shade was smoother and not quite as shiny, I’d expect it to be a little more forgiving of more lid texture. If you are only purchasing one or two shades and live in the US (at least, may apply to other regions!), shipping is more affordable (free over $65 whereas Clionadh’s shipping starts at $15 and there’s no free shipping offered).
Editor’s Pick: I prefer that slightly more emollient quality of Trefoil as well as the shinier, more intense finish. However, if I was only ordering one or two shades from either brand, I would opt for Mood Ring because the difference in cost would be too great for those marginal differences–Mood Ring is still quite smooth and metallic with great intensity, and without owning both, I’d never think there were real differences (even as slight as they are).
Bottom Line: You can’t go wrong with either shade because they are very, very similar. The price point on each is comparable, but it is likely the difference in shipping costs that will determine which is the better “deal.” The colors are nearly the same, while the formulas are both high-performing with subtle differences that result in subtle differences in the overall finish, but the application of the two is similar.

I love these posts! I have not dipped my toe into the world of multichromes yet but already feel overwhelmed with all the options and how similar some look especially once applied on the eyes.
Because I have both oilier, hooded lids combined with the beginnings of crinkling, I believe that Mood Ring would work out better for me. Plus, no super long wait time with high shipping costs, too!

Same. I had both of these on my wish list, but even though I love the way Trefoils looks more they are similar enough that I should make the smarter choice to go for the one that will work for my oily lids. They are both beautiful and great to know either one will perform well. The cost for shipping definitely makes more sense for me too.
I would find that the blackened base of both of these shades would be a bit of a problem for me, with my hooded, ageing eyelids. I like both of the shades, but the Trefoil shade is one that I love.

Mood Ring is on my wishlist and for some reason Trefoil never made my list. I love working with the Terra Moon shadows I have though, I definitely think they are easier to work with than Clionadh shadows in general for me.
I prefer trefoil too, but seems like the Mood Ring may be the ticket for cost and being “more forgiving” for problem lids (like those of more mature eyes.). Thanks Christine! I’m really enjoying these “critical comparisons”.
I love this series! And this in particular has my heart. I’m such a sucker for blue/teal metallic shifting shades and have so few.
