The Spring Season: Julie Hewett Simone Lipstick

Julie Hewett Simone Sheer Lipstick ($20.00) is a soft, lightly frosted shade of pinky-coral. This is a shade that’s definitely a YMMV (your mileage may vary) kind of shade, because even though it looks and swatches with a coral tint, on my lips, it turns rather pink. When applied, Simone brightens up my lips to a soft, petal pink shade with decent coverage, even though it’s supposed to be a sheer shade. I liked the way it turned out, but the way it looks on your lips may be different since we all have different pigmentation, and this one definitely pulled pink on me!  The formula itself is semi-sheer, creamy enough to apply with ease, and a slight glossy sheen (almost a frost sheen, in my eyes).  I get a good four or so hours of wear with the sheer lipsticks in Julie Hewett’s line.

Is this the right pink for you? Would you wear it?

The Spring Season is a series of posts featuring my favorite soft beige, coral, and pink lipsticks and lipglosses — all perfect for the first blossom of spring — that runs through March 2010.

See photos and swatches…

Julie Hewett lipsticks definately seem to swatch differently than the apply, for some reason. I still love them, though. The texture and finsish are amazing!

The arm swatch looks very sheer, but the lip swatch looks like it has good coverage. Does it get the lip swatch color in one go, or did you layer it?

Hi, I was just wondering when you do the swatches if you could also take a picture of what it looks like from farther away. So pretty much a picture of your face:) It would really help me(and maybe others) understand what the lipstick/lip gloss looks like overall. Thanx=)

Hey Nicole,

I wish I could – one of the things is I often do lip swatches in batches – like anywhere from 15 to 30 lip products (whatever abuse my lips will take, lol!), so it’s really, really time-consuming and impractical to take full face photos, too. Any foundation gets mussed around my mouth area as I remove each shade, and not all lip colors look good with such and such makeup, but at the same time, light shades don’t always look good if you don’t wear much makeup either.

I totally understand where you’re coming from, and I wish I had the time to be able do that for you but I don’t have it at present 🙁

Wow this look fabulous on you! I was woundering if this wook look funny on my lips because they are a little more pigmented and a little red… would it be more coraly?

Love this color on you, but unfortunately it seems like somehing you would have to try yourself and I don’t know of any stores that carry this line.

This lipstick looks so beautiful and creamy on your lips with a hint of sparkle. I adore the color and think it is something that many skintones can wear. I am definitely going to go look for this as soon as I leave this comment. I just wrote down the brand and color. Very nice price point as compared to some other lipsticks when you get tired of MAC. I love MAC, but I am looking to expand my horizons without spending more than about $20 for a lipstick. Thank you for this post.

This is gorgeous! maybe a bit warmer than Urban Decay’s Rush?
can you think of any similar dupe for this color from any brand? I have to see things in person cause my lips are pigmented…

I think, this one may have my name on it! hehe.
It actually does look like it could be my perfect MLBB lip colour, unless it pulls coral on me…
