The Spring Season: Guerlain Gentiane Rouge G Lipstick

Guerlain Gentiane Rouge G Lipstick ($45.00) is a soft, cool-toned pink with a light frost and shimmer finish. It applies opaquely in just one or two layers, and it clings to lips without being drying. If you ignore the price for a moment, the lipstick is one of the best on the market — creamy, opaque color that applies evenly, easily, and really shimmers in a way that’s soft but noticeable. The price, obviously, can make it a little too pricey, but it’s always a nice shade to think about and, at least, give you some inspiration about what you’re looking for in a holy grail pink lip.

Is this soft pink the one for you? Would you wear it?

The Spring Season is a series of posts featuring my favorite soft beige, coral, and pink lipsticks and lipglosses — all perfect for the first blossom of spring — that runs through March 2010.

What an amazing color! It’s gorgeous! I love Guerlain, and i love their lipsticks! They’re indeed very creamy and they also last very long without turning ugly which is always nice. I think i’ve found my first must-have lemming for spring season 😉

Yeah – Spring Season!!! 🙂

This colour is sooo pretty! I’m afraid the price is a deal breaker at this point but I will put on my ‘someday’ list.

I actually bought this based on your review a little while ago and it’s gorgeous! I now have quite a few G lipsticks and really looking forward to the new ones (B’s) in the spring too I actually thought for a moment that you were reviewing those already). 🙂

Oh, Christine, you’ve got to do all Kiss Kiss Strass colors for the sake of my sanity. I’ve dying to see the reviews and swatches fir those ever since first time I heard about the spring collection

yay for spring season!
pinks tend to look more violet on my skintone, but im so gonna be on the lookout for a pink that’ll actually look pink on me~ 🙂
and this is a gorgeous color, by the way ^-^

Ooooh this is lovely! I have never purchased a Guerlain lipstick before. I was on the fence about picking up a lipstick from Chanel’s spring collection, but forget those! I would choose this first. :p

I love that color! If I didn’t spend a lot of money already on makeup I would probably consider getting it. The shade looks like it would be perfect for my skintone.

So far I am loving all the Guerlain Rouge G lipsticks, especially the corals and the pinks. For some reason I have yet to see it at the counters or at Sephora, maybe my eyes just glaze over it because it is a bit pricey.

Hi Christine, happy 2010! 🙂

I just have a short question for you. I’m NC35/40 with uneven toned lips (I’m one of the unfortunate few who seem to have a darker outline on the upper lip). I’m wondering if this color would look okay on me. What do you think? I am looking for the perfect pink/peach shade for me (3 years and it has been so elusive!) I’m so looking forward to summer here already, I want to get my “summer color fix” through makeup. 🙂

I cannot believe this one little lipstick is $45!! The color is gorgeous, but the price tag is out of the world! I’m willing to pay $25 or $30 for a great lipstick, but wow $45?!?! Is there something extra special about the packaging or formula?

Christine Avatar

Oh, it’s the packaging. A typical Guerlain lip product is around $30 or so, and this you could maybe justify paying an extra $3-5 for the formula (the shimmer is very, very fine but dazzling, pigmented, smooth). The case was designed by a famous jeweler, and it’s quite heavy. It also opens up and has a pretty decent mirror inside. I would say that the extra $10-12 is for the packaging. Would I pay for the packaging? It’s not really my style, so it doesn’t do it for me, but I *do* think a lot of the price tag is supposed to be allotted towards the packaging.

Wow, I loved The Scarlet Season but suprisingly for me I am really excited about The Spring Season. This will be a great way for me to venture into the world of nude and peachy pink lip colours, something I haven’t tried before! Thanks for all you do, I think I speak for everyone when I say we appreciate it sooo much!
