The Scarlet Season: Dolce & Gabbana Ruby Lipstick
The Scarlet Season: Dolce & Gabbana Ruby Lipstick
Dolce & Gabbana Ruby Classic Cream Lipstick ($30.00) is a creamy, opaque shade of ruby red with a subtle blue-base. I like that it runs more neutral-cool than totally cool, as sometimes blue-reds look off against my warm-toned skin. It does have a stronger, more floral scent than other lipsticks, so if you’re sensitive to scented makeup products, you might not find this one to your liking, purely from a nose-standpoint! It doesn’t bother me (I couldn’t say I love it, but I’m indifferent), because the texture is really soft, smooth, and it doesn’t settle or enhance lip lines.
If you’re confused about this shade, saying to yourself, “She reviewed this already… and it doesn’t look like this!” — you’re not wrong. Dolce & Gabbana also has Ruby Lipstick, but in their Shine formula. They’re totally different shades, and I’ll say Dolce & Gabbana could have made it less confusing by giving them different names.
What about you? Would you wear this red?
The Scarlet Season is a series of posts showcasing and featuring my favorite shades of red lips–from glosses to lipsticks that runs through December 2009. You can sure expect to see a lot of red this holiday season!

Christine I’m loving this feature they’re all so beautiful and it’s awesome that you’re showing so many options…do you think in the spring you could possibly do one on your favorite corals I’m forever looking for my hg and I know you love corals too!!!
Thanks and you’re the best!
Which ‘Ruby’ shade do you like better? Classic cream version or the shine version?
They’re actually pretty different, so it’s hard to say. I tend to like more pigmented lipsticks, so probably the cream version.
A very nice red, but “Ruby” is a much more appropriate name for the other shade! 😉
so beautiful, it hurts not to have it!!! xoxoxo
wow.. this one’s real nice.. i really am having a hard time on finding a perfect red lipstick for me.. also the challenge of wearing a red lipstick that doesn’t make you look old.. i think this one’s worth to try.. you should try Kat Von D’s Hellbent lipstick, I’m an NC30 and it was love at first try.. 🙂
This has been a great feature. My request is when you are all done please post the photos side-by-side for comparison sake. Maybe in categories – gloss, warm reds, cool reds, etc. Thanks.
Would you know a MAC dupe for this?
Maybe Ladybug?
Christine, I am wondering what OCC Lip Tar do you think would be good match? NSFW?
