I absolutely love the all over black with the hot pink shimmer over the crease and a light shimmer for a highlight. I cant quite remember the name at the moment but its one look that has stuck out to me since I first started reading your page. Keep up the good job!

Thanks again!

My favourite smokey eye combination is the classic grey/white, with a dark grey on the outside and ligher on the inside. It always works! Lately I’ve been using the Bourjois trio eye shadow called Les argents (blacks).

My email: mini@kaslc.com

Taylor Avatar

I’ve been using one of my favorite cheapie brands for a smokey eye. LA Colors!

White on the inner corner and highlight
Light grey on the inner half of the lid
Medium grey on the outer half of the lid
Black in the crease,

and a nude lip =)

Quynh Avatar

Mine is a pretty simple purple smokey.
nice vice pp as a base, the dark purple in one of the heatherette trio, then the lightest color as highlighter.

I looove doing smokey eyes my favorite has to be a matte-ish blue look.
I use era on lid. its like a MLBB es and use Too Faced Lava Gloss e/l in the blue shade. Then I go to town with my nars smudge brush. I tightline with feline and line my lower waterline. one coat of shiseido mascara base and 2 coats of lash blast. sometimes ill had a bit of mystery in the crease

Tanya from Oz Avatar

My fave smokey eye usually has a pop of colour somewhere in there!

I use a creamy highlight colour, a pale metallic inner corner colour, a shimmery grey under crease colour, a deeper matte grey middle crease colour, and a black crease colour. To make my eyes *pop* I put a bright colour (like navy, deep pink, dark emerald, or violet) in the part of my crease that is diagonal to my pupil. (does that make sense?!?) Sometimes I put the pop of colour on my upper and/or lower lash line or line my upper lash line with a deep but vibrant colour.

lol, and thats how I do it:D

My favorite smokey eye is a greyish pinkish blue eye. I’ll start with painterly over the entire eye surface, add some scene in the crease and on the upper and lower lash lines, go over the lid with a shimmery bare essentials eye shadow whose name I forget, add a little bit of the light pink from last year’s warm novel twist compact from the crease up to the brow bown, and finish off with either the turquoise from the novel twist collection or a stila bright blue on the lash line.

It ends up being subtle, slightly shimmery, and not so ‘nighttime’ that I feel silly wearing it for an afternoon.

Since right now I do the entire look with my angled eyeliner/brow mac brush and a sephora all over shadow brush, I’d love to be able to do it without washing my brush every few minutes!

Asta Avatar

My favorite smokey eye right now is the Bare Escentuals rocker eye kit. The shadows are a black liner and two silvery sparkley shades. The brush it comes with is amazing!

Lingping Avatar

what a great prize! that there is no sephora in norway only makes it better 🙂

my favorite smokey eye at the moment is a blue one;

-smudged black chanel eyeliner
-mac bell bottom blue pigment on the lid – applied with a damp brush
-just a little too faced galaxy glam supernova in the crease
-a touch of mac lovely lily pigment over crease
-bare escentuals cultured pearl eyeshadow as highligt on brow bone
-black kanebo 38+ mascara
-some “skin color” clinique eyeliner on wet line and corner of the eye to lighten up a bit

I love the blue with a bit of gray, and it is (at least fairly) daytime/afternoon friendly and goes very nicely with the purple and violet nail polishes I tend to choose these days.

Hi, this is a great giveaway!

My favorite combo is to use a light shimmery silver as the highlighter, a medium matte coal color for along the lid, and a dark, dark black for the crease highlight. Then I blend, blend blend.

I finish off with a strong line of black gel eyeliner that I wing up and out about 1/4 inch past my eye. And of course, about 80 coats of waterproof mascara!!

George Avatar

I completely love doing a violet-smokey eye. I like to use Violet Trance, Bejeweled (Climate Blue works too I think), Black Tied, Up At Dawn, and Cloudbound eyeshadows. As well as Violet Underground and Graphblack eyeliners, a black mascara, and then go a little light on the lips so as to keep the attention on the eyes. I especially like using Opal l/g to help tie it in.

My favourite smokey eye ever is a blue smokey eye:

Black gel liner on lid (I use Stila Smudge Pot)and lower lash line
Blue Brown pigment on top of the gel liner
Freshwater e/s in the crese and lower lash line
Tilt e/s above crease
Vanilla pigment to highlight
Line eyes with black gel liner
Tones of black mascara

My favourite smokey eye combination is a variation on blue, and I usually do it with Chanel ‘Les 4 Ombres’ in ‘Blue Notes’, plus lots of black mascara. I obviously pair it with nude lips (using Nars ‘Striptease’ lipgloss or Nars ‘Butterfield 8’ lip lacquer) and pink cheecks (using Nars ‘Orgasm’ or ‘Outlaw’, with ‘Albatross’ or Mac ‘Pearl Sunshine’ to highlight).

Shayla Avatar

I love the combination my friend uses on me…a shadestick (forget the color, it’s kind of like cranberry) with club and humid on top, and a nice highlight. It sounds greeny, but comes out really nice, dark and blended 🙂 She makes a bit of a cat eye, too, so it’s that much more awesome!

I love smokey eyes and use a lot of simple combinations in creating them. I usually fail if I use more than 3 shadows Am not half as talented as you ;).So I just stick to 2 or 3 colors in creating the look.
My fav would be using Milani Storm and Prestige Stormy…the dark gray and black combo works best on my brown skin. Somehow too much black requires me to have a perfectly made face but the gray is more forgiving 🙂
Another fav of mine is the rock chic kinda look where I just use my fingers to dab black over my upper lid and lower lash line with lots of mascara!
Love Ya!

Stephanie Avatar

Just this past week I used Magnetic Fields and Femme Fi to highlight for a simple smokey eye and I loved it! I did it again the next day. I also used UD’s 24/7 liner in Zero to line my upper lash line and waterline.

Erin/slipnslide Avatar

I’ve been working on the perfection of the smoky eye lately… the other day I used Ricepaper, Golden Olive pigment as a wash, Springtime Skipper from Barbie loves MAC, and Humid for the dark. I used Blacktrack against the base of the top lash with a flatbrush to blend and had my newly permed eyelashes in full force! I bet a brush kit would help me with those little details. 🙂

Monica Avatar

My favorite smoky eye is the typical silver/gray/black look with:
Paint (Bare Canvas) all over lid.
ES on Lid: Chrystal Avalanche (inner corner of the eye), Electra (Inner lid,)Silver Ring (Med Lid), Knight Divine (Outer part of the Lid),Carbon (Crease), Silver Ring (Outer Crease), Chrystal Avalanche (Brow bone)
ES on lower lash: Typographic and Carbon.
Lines and lashes: Engraved (water line), blacktrack fluidline, clinique primer on lashes, clinique power lash mascara.
Cheeks: Coppertone blush and Nuance
Lips: Viva Glam II and baby sparks dazzleglass

Ashlee Avatar

ashleedream4e@yahoo.com

My favorite is:

start out with blacktrack fluidline as a base.
then add a bit of carbon over that. and bring it up into the crease.
above the crease add a bit of club. Then I add black tie over carbon for some sparkle. I use phloof or vex as a highlight and I bring it down to the inner corner of my eye. I finish with colour under my eye(usually a deep green or blue [just for a pop of color]) Line my water line, load up the mascara making sure not to clump my lashes, use a nice pink blush with light flush msf and I use soft lust lipstick and nymphette on my lips.

Chloe Avatar

My favorite smokey eye is one that I made up a month ago. I use:
Graphito Paint all over lid
Steamy inner 1/3 and outer 1/3
Gorgeous Gold packed on middle third
Carbon on outer lid and crease
Nylon to highlight and innermost corner
Blactrack Fluid Liner
Lots and lots of mascara or better yet, falsies!

It looks amazing! It’s a dark green smokey eye with a flash of gold in the middle of lid. I love it and I hope you do too, Christine!

My favorite smokey eye is sooo easy and that’s why I love it. I start off with a black base – MAC Graphito paint, Blackground paint pot or Sharkskin shadestick. I apply it all over the lid. Then I use Bare Escentuals Catwoman eyeshadow, which is a gorgeous black with silver shimmer. I actually find that the shimmer looks muti-colored. Anyway, I apply it wet all over my base using MAC mixing medium or MUFE Mist & Fix and a synthetic brush. I use a nice fluffy brush to soften the edges and I’m done. Perfection!!

Márcia Avatar

I love the classic smokey eye, but I also have my own version for a dark smokey eye:

MAC blacktrack fluidline – all over the lid and lower lash line
MAC nylon – highlight
MAC black tied – all over the lid
MAC amber lights – outer lid and lower lash line
MAC smolder eye kohl pencil – waterline
MAC boot black – liner
Silver glitter above black tied e/s
MAC X mascara

Vee Avatar

Not to self – don’t click outta the box and continue typing!

Scene – All over lid
Silver Ring – Middle lid
Knight Divine – Outer lid & liner
Black Tied – Crease & liner

Ashley Avatar

My current favorite is Sharkskin shadestick as a base with Silver ring over entire lid, Knight Divine on entire crease and outer 1/3 and Carbon to deepen the outer crease!

Thanks for all these awesome contests Christine! You’re the best!

I love love love nile e/s from McQueen with Howzat from Fafi and a ton of carbon to smoke the crap out of it. It turns out so dark and mysterious looking, and the blue is unexpectedly lovely.

Kirsten Avatar

My favorite smokey eye is using all the grays from the smokey eyes holiday quad from 2007, plus electra and stately black from the metallics holiday quad.

Maren Avatar

If I want a fast nighttime smokey-eye I use Blackground p/p all over lid, Carbon on lid and Shroom on the browbone. Then I use Anti-Establishment on Carbon and blend it into Shroom. Anti-Establishment on the lower lid, black liner, mascara and I´m good to go!

I like using MAC’s smoke signals quad but adding a splash of pink for color. Sometimes I change it up a bit and use green for a shock effect.

Parfait Amour rest of lid
Poison Pen on outer V
Nocturnelle on crease

TiGi Big Fat Fun on bottom lashes, with wine layered and a little below

Too Faced Sun Bunny

I love a silver smoky eye (electra all over, knight divine in outer v, carbon in outer corner, blacktrack to line, blanc type to highlight) with a bold red lip.

Another favourite quick one is to use shore leave from lash to brow with smoke signals pigment in the crease and iris eyes to line. The pandamonium quad also makes a marvelous smoky eye.

Lina Avatar

UDPP
MAC paintpot (black)
MAC Electra on the inner lid
MAC Black Tied on the crease, smoked out with brush 217
MAC Carbon on the outer crease made more prominent with brush 219
MAC fluidline (blacktrack) on upper/lower lash line and on upper/lower waterline.
MAC Prep&Prime Mascara
Diorshow Blackout Mascara
MAC vanilla pigment on the browbone, blended with the Black Tied on the crease. Also on tearduck.

Neutral lips, bronzer and cheeckbone-highlighting to go with the eyes. 🙂

I’m a low maintenance kinda gal, so if I’m gonna do a smoky eye I just use Stila’s Original Smoky Eye Palette. It’s a no-brainer look with the eye shadows already coordinated for you so I don’t have to worry about what goes with what. Plus Stila’s eye shadows are soooo soft and blendable. I love it!

jgrthwt Avatar

My favourite is a silver smokey eye done with my Clinique quad, with the light silver in the inner corner, the medium gray all over the lid on top of a smudged pencil liner, and the dark grey in the crease. I blend it out into MACs vanilla. It’s the first one I ever did and it actually looked ok and not OTT! (Bit intimidated by a smokey eye for the day time LOL).

rysch Avatar

I love different intensity of blue from L’oreal HIP. my favorite is the Showy color (dark and lighter blue)… I love smokey blue!

Helen Toy Avatar

i like doing a smokey eye using colors. i would put expensive pink all over my lids then define the crease with a purple shade. finally i’ll put a little bit of carbon on the outer v and ta da! 🙂 the perfect smokey eye for me.

i’m really liking purple for my eyes nowadays. it’s dark and defines it but isn’t as dramatic as black. =)

I am a newbie when it comes to smoky eyes, but I’m trying to learn. I like using Lancome’s colors, especially their dark browns.

Elizabeth M. Avatar

Wow, everyone is so much more makeup savvy than I am. I don’t even have a good smoky eye technique. I would really love to learn one though.

Kensie Avatar

i love a lighter/ brighter smokey look.
i’m still new to MAC but any light brown all over the lid, darker brown in crease, black on the outer v, and an ivory on the brow bone. and LOTS of liner and mascara for that GLAM

thanks Christine! 😀

Hi Christine,
ok let’s talk about smokey eye, well usually I’d go for my “mixing technique”,LOL!!Let me explain to you girls…I’m from Brazil and although we have MAC and others good brands here(Lancome,Dior,YSL,etc…)they are pricey!!But we have good brazilians brands like Contem 1g,Vult,Duda Molinos, that are cheaper in price but not in quality…That’s life below the Equador, girls!!But we are happy and even that brazilian girls don’t use much makeup daily,we do use the basics…And the smokey eye is more for going out and I like to mix the brazilian brands with the pricey ones…And with the help that I get from reading Temptalia religiously,my skills are getting better everyday!!!So does the smokey eye…
Greetins from Brazil!!

Aramis Avatar

Im new but mine would definitely be

Shishiedo-hydropower eyeshadow on all over the lid in lemon sugar
Mac-nylon on inner crease

i have small eyes so sometimes i dont follow the rules..

Mac-Grey/Silver from an older mineralize eyeshadow(earthly riches)
Mac-howzats from fafi collection on 3/4 of the eye
Sephora-colorful mono in black on the outer crease

on my browline i use MAc-vanilla from fafi quad or # 6 from pop beauty eyebronzeri use the liquid eyeliner from loreal linear intese on top and covergirl eyeliner on water line

cloudburst Avatar

My favorite right now is MAC Hot Contrast Mineralize eyeshadow with Circa Plum pigments layered on top. Smolder Eye Kohl awith lots of black mascara.

camila Avatar

My favorite smokey eye is the one really blended well. I think that’s the key, isn’t it? 🙂 But about the colors, I just loooove some carbon all over the lid with some silver eye shadow (like electra) fading to the brow bone.. and lots of eye pencil, of courseee! 😀

betsy Avatar

Yay, smokey eye!
I’m still a beginner when it comes to makeup (but hey, I’m learning!), so my favorite smokey eye is a simple one. Brown and black eyeshadows over the lid, some creamy colors to blend into the brown bone and lots of black eyeliner.

When I’m lazy though, I only use a black or dark brown eyeliner, heavily line my eyes and then smudge. Ta-daa, instant smokey eye!

Email: buzzybudy2002@hotmail.com

I like and old school black smokey eye
Magriites paint as base, then a combo of gold mine, black ore solar bits, carbon and shroom to highlight

molly grace :] Avatar

my favorite smokey eye is created with a base of my sharkskin shadestick, carbon in my outer v, lancome’s the new black in my crease, with moth brown on the lid, and vanilla pigment as a highlight. i sometimes like to add a deep purple or blue the the bottom lash line to change things up too! can’t forget the falsh eyelashes and eyeliner!

Sheena Avatar

My favorite smokey eye look uses peaches and browns…peach for the highlight, a slightly shimmery coppery brown on the lid, and a matte dark chocolate in the crease. It’s really easy to go from a daytime look to an evening look with this one 🙂

Lindsay Avatar

MAC Holiday 2007 Royal Assets Smokey Eyes Palette. I love, love, love this palette. Endless combinations and different finishes make it sooo versatile.

bunny Avatar

I love the smokey eye look, but I’m not an expert in achieving it! I usually use dark browns and black and a little peach to highlight.

Vita Avatar

my favorite smokey eye is sharkskin shadestick as a base, silver fog pigment on the lid, print or pandamonium in the outer v with a touch of carbon to darken it. then line with engraved liner and go over liner with black tied… highlight with crystal avalance and put forgery in the inner corner of eyes… line bottom lids with forgery, silver fog, and carbon… a nude lip with bare slimshine with bonus beat lipglass over it. gorgeous!!! =)

My current fav smokey eye is: Smashbox ink e/s on top of a good primer and blended

Other smokey fav: Bare Escentuals Black Ruby liner with a dusty rose e/s

I love using MAC Blacktrack as a base liner, then smudging over it with vibrant blues, purples, or greens (like Stila Azure, BB Black Plum, or Fyrinnae Vodka).

My brand new favorite smoky eye combo is the new HIP Metallics combo in gold. It’s a really smooth antique gold on one side and a charcoal black with gold shimmer on the other. Shade with the gold, line with the black, smudge a little black into the crease and you’re.. dare I say… golden.
