Temptalia's Red Lips Challenge

The Challenge | Discover the confidence, fun, and wickedness that is red lipstick (or red lipgloss!).  Who are you when it comes to red lips?

  • “I couldn’t!” | Your Challenge:  Wear it in the comfort of your own home.
  • “Only when I’m alone–just to experiment!” | Your Challenge: Go out and paint the town red–with red lips that is!
  • “I do love a particular shade of red…” | Your Challenge: Try a new kind of red.  Blue-based.  Orange-based. Yellow-based.  Matte, creamy, glossy.
  • “I rock red lips all day!” | Your Challenge: Show others the many joys of red lips by submitting or sharing your favorite products, techniques, and experiences.

Are you ready for Temptalia’s Red Lips Challenge? I took it last night, and I hope you will, too.

If you take the challenge, I encourage you to submit the results in picture form to temptalia@gmail.com, as well as all testimonials and written results are happily taken–just include your comment on this post!  If you’re a little wary of your photos being on the blog, think about posting them on the forum, where only members can view your photos.

YAY! I was going to suggest doing this from during that one discussion we were all having about the makeup look we’ve always wanted to try. Thanks … this’ll be fun. 🙂

I love them all.
And wish I had the confidence to wear red lips… but I feel sort of clownish.
Although, that’s the point of the challenge, right?

i wear red lipstick everyday, so this wouldn’t be much of a challenge for me. but i think the idea of this is great; everyone looks so much more put together with the correct shade of red for them.

Hi!

I was wondering if you remembered what you’re wearing in the right-most photo in the top row? I’ve always been afraid of reds but I absolutely LOVE that shade-it looks gorgeous!

I’ve been reading your blog religiously for AGES and absolutely love it!

I just wore red lipstick for the first time because of the new Port Red from Naughty Nauticals and I was amazed at how powerful and goddesslike it made me feel… I think everyone should try it!

I’m the “I couldn’t!” type. Because of my NC35 medium golden (read: very yellow) skintone, I don’t look good in most reds and they look fuschia on me. I usually wear neutral pinks, peaches or coral based lippies. Port Red looks lovely though. The only red lipstick I have is Mattene Classic Dame, but I think You Say Tomato is another alternative.

Girl you must have read my mind, I JUST tried the MAC Russian Red -Originals Look last night (in the privacy of my home) and decided I could NOT wear it out in public. I’m not sure I’m up for it but I WISH I could pull it off.

I started with ” i couldnt”. and then now I ” prefer a certain shade of red”. I discovered the yellow or warm-toned red is the best for Asian skin. and unless I have a really good sleep, I will never wear a blue-based red.

I’ve got a great red gloss for people afraid to try for the red lip. It gives you enough color to still be red, but since it’s a gloss most of my friends who I thrust it at don’t find it too intimidating. In fact, it’s simple enough that I even use it without any other make-up. I know there was a phase when magazines insisted that if we only had time to apply one product, red lipstick would instantly make us chic and put together. I’ve found if I only have time to apply one product, then red lips will inevitably end with me spending twice the time I have because by Murphy’s Law I will screw up.
Now if I could only figure out which make-up bag it’s in.

I’ve also got a really great creamy red that’s quite heavy on the blue undertones. Which I’ve misplaced as well.

Both are drugstore brands, so if you’re intimidated by the red lip you won’t be scared off with sticker shock.

As soon as I find them I’ll post swatches. Maybe even a full look if I’ve got time.

I just found it and double checked, it’s L’Oreal’s Color Riche Gloss in True Red.

Once I dig up the camera tomorrow I’ll send you some pictures. It’s nice because you can build it up for night or wear one coat for day so that you don’t look too vampy if your job is conservative.

Oooh, you must tell us what you are wearing in all of those lip swatches 🙂

I will try to post some lip swatches tonight with the few reds I do have. Don’t wear them much because it can be a little intimidating. However, I’m really loving Port Red & have already sported it out a few times. I want to try it with Red Romp though.

Honestly, I’m not shy about red lips, I just usually ham up the eyes too much if I’m going to be going that glam! So I never get the chance.

I’m new to your site, but I am going to do your challenge 🙂 I normally avoid red like the plague because it is tough for me to find reds that work… I’m a redhead, you see, and red lips can seem a bit clowny. Plus, I don’t have that pretty pink transparently fair skin a lot of redheads have – mine’s very light but yellower/golden, and that causes a lot of color issues….

HOWEVER, I have a few reds that might work – gonna put ’em on and parade around the house, then get pics 🙂

Well, I bought my first red lipstick about a year ago (20); it was a rough moment in life for me after a bad brekaup, and I thought maybe wearing red lipstick would make me look confident and act like a weapon 🙂
It actually DID work, and I have loved it ever since! When Im feeling blue I put it on and I really feel the difference walking around, people look at you like an adult sure of yourself *lol* or maybe thats just my imagination.. 🙂

Anyhow, Im really pale in winter, so I think it looks polished and sophisticated ^^. Here’s the link, feel free to put it on your site:

Enjoy! ^^
