Temptalia Asks You - What do you do with empty, but beautiful packaging, compacts, fragrances, etc.?

What do you do with empty, but beautiful packaging, compacts, fragrances, etc.? Keep them? Re-use?

.

If I can find a way to use it for something else, then I’ll keep it. I tend not to finish things, so I usually don’t have to come up with creative ways to reuse!

It takes me a long long time to finish an entire product. Most of the time I end up giving away my make-up before I even get through half. When I do finally finish a product, if it has very very pretty packaging I’ll end up stashing it somewhere for 1-2years and eventually throw it out. Just don’t see the point in keeping things when they are not used any more.

I usually keep them. I like re-using eyeshadow pots to hold small stuff like pendants/rings/earings safe in my jewelry box or when I travel, blushes come in handy for bobby pins and hair ties, sometimes if the cap of a lipgloss has a nice design I clean the applicator off and switch it with a plain one and you can switch the your setting powder in a beauty powder compact. There’s tonnes of stuff you can do with pretty empties! Also, I usually keep fragrance bottles for deco on my dressing table 🙂

I only keep glass cream pots once they’re empty and fill in other creams which were packaged in plastic containers. I can’t stand those plastic pots – in my opinion glass is so much better and feels really luxurious.

I usually only finish off perfumes and face creams, and I tend to chuck out the packaging, can’t see how I could reuse them and my collection takes up far too much space already anyway.

In the US, if you do BTM at a department store you only get a lipstick but if you do it at a MAC store you can chose between a gloss, e/s and lippie.

BUT, in order to do that (at a MAC pro store), you have to already be in their system by previously purchasing something. When you buy from a MAC pro store, they put your information into their computers. I went to B2M some eyeshadow pots and was told unless I’m in their system, I can only git a lipstick. So I bought some eyeshadow palates, they put me in the system, and then I returned my pots and got some new eyeshadows!

Make-up wise I get rid of it or save it for B2M. Unless it’s a nice container of some sort that I can make into a palette or pot to hold some knickknacks. I keep fragrance bottles though since they’re so beautiful to display.

I usually just toss it. It takes me so long to use up a bottle of perfume that no matter how beautiful it is, I’m tired of looking at it. Also, if I’ve used it up then I probably like it enough to go buy another one.

I am a bit anal and I save all my paccaging. Only thing I get rid of is the eye shadow packaging the the pans come in, that’s it. All my make-up has to stay with the box so lip glasses, eye liner, blush everything. Crazy I know.

It is rare that I finish anything! But I tend to keep certain MAC packaging (Hello, HK!) & Perfume bottles, WHENever(/IF) I finish them, I know I will keep many of them, lol.

I used to keep MAC e/s pots as pill containers. They are perfect for that, now I just B2M them. I’m with you Christine, I rarely finish anything!

Keep MAC for B2M and otherwise I toss it. I will probably keep my benefit creaseless cream eyeshadow pots though because they have cute designs and are sturdy-will be good for travelling! But I really have only finished a concealer and a couple mascara at this point. I got into makeup 4 years ago and have practically used NOTHING UP :0!

I have yet to hit the pan on most of my compact or pot items.. especially the LE ones.. but if the packaging is special, I store them away.. otherwise I toss them depending on the condition.. the same thing goes with perfume bottles.. they have to be super pretty or expensive for me to hold on to them.

Katie Avatar

Well I keep all the fun LE boxes and I tape them to my bedroom wall…I would love more of the Lure stuff, or Belle Azure or Tantress. As far as eyeshadows and such go, all my pots are regular packaging, but for LE ones I would definitely use them for earrings or I would swap out for a regular shadow. Same with Beauty Powders, blushes, and all that sort of stuff. For lipsticks, I would make them into decorations-fan pulls for my ceiling fan, drawer pulls, that kind of stuff. Lipglasses, I would definitely do something similar. Some LE packaging I would B2M, like Fafi, but my Manish Arora I wouldn’t.

Back to MAC (if applicable) or toss. This is exactly the type of stuff that I used to hang onto, never look at again, and it’d just clutter up my shelves and take up room.

Lys Avatar

I have all these Bobbi Brown foundation compacts and I can’t get rid of them. I may eventually use them for pills or just to have a mirror with me. I might de-pot some of my drug-store foundation and put them in those pans instead. Oooo what a good idea.

Brigitte Avatar

I only just started my collection in December! So you know… nothing has been used up yet. When I depot MAC e/s I just B2M them. 😀 I also don’t like perfume so no bottles!

Diana Avatar

Damn, I only found out about this B2M recently so a lot of my MAC empties were binned! But usually I do throw away all my empty containers/bottles etc. It just gets too cluttery, no matter how pretty they are there’s no way they’d be useful! And I’m not very convinced about keeping jewelry and stuff in makeup pots, do you seriously not prefer a pretty jewelry box or a pretty gift bag or something? I am all up for recycling though!
