Temptalia Asks You - Do you match your makeup to your clothes?

Do you match your makeup to your clothes? How do you coordinate the two?

I am matchy-matchy, and I don’t care if the rules say you shouldn’t! 🙂

umm yes lol i know ur not supposed to but who cares i think it looks so much better when u do match ur eyeshadow to ur clothes 😀

Petrilude Avatar

I don’t, ever. But that is my own personal thing. I prefer to go with complimentary colors instead (if I’m wearing color).

Then again I wear black 90% of the time. 😉

Lingping Avatar

I like to match color tones, like warm color clothes and warm colors for makeup. Black is nice, because everything looks nice with it 🙂

Yes! i know they say you’re not supposed to, but i think matchy eyeshadow with outfits it looks great if done nicely; i’ve actually gotten several compliments which just spurs me to do it again and again. I wear lots of aqua (Teal and Dark Blue Green pigments ); purple and pinks (Violet pigment, Clarins Perfect Purple, Lancome’s Round Midnight); greens (Humid, Golden Olive, Gallery Gal Bright Side) – you get the picture. When i wear black, sometimes, i do a black and gold eye or if i wear other colours on my eyes, then i sometimes match my accessories (like a green necklace with Humid/Golden Olive or a chunky turquoise bracelet with Teal – i think i see some temptaliers laffing at me!)

Me too! 🙂 I don’t care if you’re not supposed to, I’ve had many compliments too and nobody has ever said I shouldn’t. I tend to match my clothes with not only my make up, but jewellery too, I buy lots of lovely colourful jewellery and am proud to wear them too. Today I’m only wearing a black eyeliner + mascara because I’m going out tonight and haven’t worked out what I’m wearing, because I will be matching my make up to it for sure! 🙂

i don’t usually match, but try to at least coordinate/compliment as ashbash said previously….

matchy-matchy is usually more of a no-no when its shoes and bags imo…

Kayc Avatar

I usually match my makeup with whatever it is I’m wearing for that day. I find that I feel very made up if everything co-ordinates. But then again I also like to throw in some neutrals when I’m in a hurry and have no time to think of what eyeshadow combinations to wear.

Porcelain Avatar

Usually I contrast, but when I think that matching wouls look better, I add a similar colour into a brown/neutral eye. Then it’s not OVERLY matchy, but doesn’t look out of place 🙂

LR Avatar

I always try to wear a complimentary color somewhere on my lid,but if I am in doubt,I just take the easy road and wear neutrals.I really hate rules 😛

I hated when the girls who wore makeup in high school would wear the same color eyeshadow as their shirt, but now I realize it’s because they had one lonely color, no blending, and if they wore eyeliner it was always black. Boooring.

I usually wear neutral browns or purples. At work I wear scrubs so I’ll match a bright colored eyeliner to what I’m wearing, or do contrasting, whatever I feel like. If I’m not at work I just go with how I feel that day. I usually pick up whatever I just bought (currently I’ve used the Chanel Mystic Eyes quad straight for over a week), or I hunt down something I haven’t used in a while (Cult of Cherry quads keep popping up!).

Ann Avatar

No, usually I don’t since I wear lots of neutral e/s. Also, during the winter and fall months I wear mostly black, so there’s not much that I need to coordinate.

If I don’t match, then I’ll do something that “goes”. If I’m wearing green but don’t have a good green eyeshadow to go with it, then I’ll use purples or just go with a basic black cat eye

Tina Avatar

sometimes i do…but i mostly just use colors that .. go or compliment each other. or if i’m wearing a really dramatic outfit, then i’d try to soften it up with softer makeup.

sammmm Avatar

i dont MACTH but i make sure they complment each other
like i wont wear a black and white outfit and use brown eyeshadows i just feel it doesnt look ood

Vanessa Avatar

I don’t, I use complementary colors. If I wear black then I wear more colorful makeup. But I usually complement people when they match their makeup to their clothes because the color is just so on my face that I feel like I need to give them a complement to be nice. Like acknowledge the effort they put out to match the colors, hehe.

www.mybeautyblog.de Avatar

YES! I have lipsticks in the colours of my cashmere pullovers; or they fit to my silk scarf.
I wear a lot of white, then I go classic with red and black or pink, but otherwise I have all in different colours following my clothes. OF COURSE!

Lamb Avatar

I try to match my clothes and my makeup, but I always make sure to match my makeup to my jewelry. I have 1″ stretched lobes and a large collection of jewelry for them, whatever I feel like wearing in my ears is how I decide what makeup I’ll be wearing also 🙂

Heather Avatar

I don’t always do it but I still like to do it sometimes! Like I’ll match my purse to it or if I’m wearing flip flops, or I’ll put on earring that go with my makeup and then occasionally my shirt or something like that.

Sasha Avatar

I usually do whatever I feel like that day; sometimes I match my clothes/accessories, sometimes I complement them, and other times just whatever.

(Rules are made to be broken, aren’t they?)

Skyler Avatar

For me, I find it better to complement than match. In most instances, I will wear eye shadow colours that complement my outfit colours, not necessarily “match” those colours. I wear a lot of neutrals to work anyway, so a lot of times I don’t even have to worry about it. 😛 If I’m wearing neutrals though, I always want some sort of a ‘pop’ with my make-up. It’s just too boring to pair neutrals with neutrals!

Brigitte Avatar

Hm, not really. I just wear clothes/makeup that looks nice together… but not really matching. I mean usually I’ll either pick my clothes first or think of my makeup look first so what follows just has to match. 😀

Mellie Avatar

I used to match eyeshadow colors to a tee, but then I kind of got tired of it, hehe. Now I just coordinate them to make sure that they look complementary. (I also wear black a lot? Haha.) But I guess whatever makes me happy is what goes! 😀

Okami Avatar

When it comes to eyeshadows, sometimes I will, sometimes I won’t, but I never pick colors that will clash. With blushes, I try to pick a shade that best compliments whatever I’m wearing, matching cools to cools and berries to berries and warm reds to warm red, etc.

I have this gloss OCD thing, though, where I’ll pull out as many shades as I need to decide between, lay them on my outfit, and try to figure out which shade goes best with my outfit (sometimes coming down to “which of six shades of cool, shimmery pink matches my blue and black skirt best?”). Seriously – I’m a lipgloss fiend and I’ve got probably something in the realm of over 100 lipgloss colors to choose from, and I always have to pick the one that goes best.

Arika BH Avatar

I usually wear makeup that compliments my clothing color. I don’t want to clash. I worry more about wether or not my makeup is seasonal. I cant wear makeup from Cult of Cherry anymore.

Jennifer Avatar

I would say 75% of the time yes. The other 25% is when I haven’t decided what to wear yet and I just go for a neutral or “good for anything” look. I don’t do to matchy matchy…I dont get to the cheesy over the top stage…lolm but I do compliment the colors.

Saira Avatar

Yeah, I normally tend to match my make-up to my clothes. I sometimes wear complimentary colours (e.g. if I’m wearing a peachy coloured top, I might wear soft golds, light browns) or I might wear neutral eyeshadow if I want to wear a bright lipstick that goes with my clothes but most of the time I like to wear matching make-up.

kat Avatar

Most of the time, but it’s not exactly planned. I wear neutral makeup and most of my clothing is white/brown/gray/black. Then I umph it up with pink, teal, blue accessories… So sometimes I’ll match with the accessory if I feel like wearing something bold, but otherwise I stick with the neutrals which happen to match but I don’t exactly do it on purpose haha!
