By myself! All my friends/family are really not into beauty, so I feel like I’m wasting up their time. I prefer to go alone so I can take my time!

Well I have some friends that are interested in makeup but def not high end make up (which is usually absolutely ordinary for my age..), and one friend of mine who lives quite far away from me which is also a heavy MAC addict. I love to shop with her 🙂
And there is my mummy, that’s where everything started… we absolutely LOVE to buy makeup and stuff together 🙂 sometimes we spend hours together at MAC, benefit, sephora etc. and totally enjoy it. and the huge bonus point is that usually she’s going to pay for my makeup as well ha 😀

JO Avatar

friends + family although I am very selective with who i take with me lol. Only because I wudnt want them 2 get bored. If this happens its no fun for them and also it kind of spoils it for me if they r stood next to me making bored noises lol.

milaxx Avatar

Depends really. If I’m buying a few things I shop with friends and family. If I’m doing major damaged I fly solo. Most don’t understand my makeup obsession and I’d rather not have the “how much did you spend?” questions.

Jess0501 Avatar

By myself. because my friends r also not so much into makeup, so they always think i’m wasting my money. hahaha… one girl even asked me “how many faces do u have so that u need that much makeups?”

Anitacska Avatar

Definitely by myself too! In fact I don’t really like going shopping with anyone for anything not just beauty. I will meet up with friends to go browsing, but really only if I don’t want to buy much/anything specific.

Musingonbeauty Avatar

I have a couple of beauty addict friends with whom I can spend a whole day on a field trip to Sephora, Mac, dept. stores etc… That’s a lot of fun.
Other than that I rather go on my own because I can really spend a lot of time looking at products without having to think of someone who’s getting bored.

Stefanie Anja Avatar

I don’t have any friends who are into beauty products the way I am, so I usually shop alone. I do go shopping with my mom occasionally, but I only see her like 3-4 times a year, so that doesn’t happen too often. 🙂

margot Avatar

I prefer to go by myself so that I am not pressured in time. I like to really chill and spend hours (if needed) in a store, looking at makeup, trying it on, swatching on my hand … pure paradise !

Miss QQ Avatar

I’m the same as you, Christine. I prefer to shop for beauty alone. If I’m with someone, I will have to rush and I don’t like that. I like to take my time to play with the testers and try on some of them before deciding which to buy, or sometimes just to look the new products although I have no intention of buying any.

Charlene Daalling Avatar

Dont like being by myself but sometimes its best as my family gets on my case for buying so much make up. At least the men do(husband and son), my daughters are dangerous because they want me to spend as much on them as on me. So its best I go alone. LOL

Tina Avatar

by myself! like you, my friends and family aren’t really into makeup. like my mom doesn’t understand why I’m buying a brown eyeshadow if i already have a brown eyeshadow. she doesn’t get that there’s a difference in the finish, undertones..all that stuff.

Tricia Avatar

By myself. I don’t have any close friends that are into beauty like I am. And I just realized — whenever I have a chance to go to Sephora, I’m with my boyfriend. LOL! Must be total Snoozeville for him. lmao

Ashley Avatar

When I can, I bring my roommate along, as she is just as MAC obsessed as me! Otherwise I bring my boyfriend, I need to talk out my purchases and I don’t want to be the crazy lady talking to herself!

aramis Avatar

even if its not for beauty i like to shop by myself. i feel that i can not go w/ someone to shop because they’ll doubt my purchase but it is my own money. I never go w/ anyone to buy cosmetics because they’re always like “more!” i love makeup like some people love books or cars.

Sylvie Avatar

I like to go by myself so nobody can judge how much I’m buying and I can stand there for 45 minutes just swatching and deciding if I really want to get whatever it is. =D

Iya Avatar

i like to shop with my sister as she usually gives me good advice on what suites me the most, and she is knowledgable about what’s a repromote, or permenant,…etc

Miss_M Avatar

It’s easier and quicker if I go beauty shopping by myself since I know exactly what I’m looking for. Besides that, my family and friends are not really into the whole beauty thing and find everything too expensive. They think I’m crazy if I spend E22,- euros on a Bobbi Brown lipstick.

Montrese Avatar

I like to shop with friends, but not family (i.e. my mother). My friends are really into alot of the same things & colors I am, but my mom is more of a neutral/earth-tone kinda girl. I finally got her to buy JUXT & she loves to mix it with her BROWN DOWN & RICEPAPER, so hopefully she sees brighter colors can work on her too!

Cherie Avatar

I like to go on my own and take my time. Most of my friends are not into makeup like I am and don’t understand why I would spend so much money on it.

My mom is good to take beauty shopping, afterall she was the first one to introduce me to MAC many moons ago when I was 17 (she bought me Prrr lipglass). But sometimes I feel like she disapproves if I spend too much. She actually doesn’t say anything but I just get that feeling, you know???

Almost black. Avatar

I have a friend who’s into make up as I am so I love to go with her. 🙂 But if I don’t go with her, I prefer to go alone since others don’t really understand my ‘thing’ for make up and beauty 😀

Brandi Avatar

By myself absolutely! If I ever shop with my family or friends their always telling me I don’t need that, or you could be spending you money on something “better”. So annoying! I’d rather go by myself.

Kristine Avatar

same here..I totally hate it when I’m with someone because my friends and family are not that into make-up..and when I take them along they always make me hurry…so I just go all alone..that way I can indulge myself without any problems and time limit.!

Deedee Avatar

I’ll definitely go by myself, but I do like to go with friends and family. I’ve managed to convert 2 of my friends into makeup(one always wore it, but wasn’t into eyeshadow). I have family who are into makeup just as much as I am, but they don’t live where I live, so we don’t have the chance to shop together so much.

Taryn Avatar

By myself. If family or friends are with me and they’re standing at the cash register, I can just hear them about to say “You spend that much on beauty products?” Maybe they won’t, but I want to cut it off before it starts. Beauty and books are my only two luxuries and I don’t need to hear anyone’s opinions on how much I spend.

Plus my family/friends aren’t into beauty.

Tekoa Avatar

I shop with my fiance! He’s quite enthusiastic about beauty product shopping. There’s a MAC teaching class on Sunday and he’s comming with me. I think he enjoys showing other males up.

Macaddict Avatar

Me too! Also, when my spouse comes along, he asks me if I “really need another “lipstick/blush/insert name here”. That’s sure kills my fun! 🙁
I have learned my lesson and go shopping alone. I can then swatch, test, try products to my heart’s content and also ask all the questions I want, take all the time I want without feeling guilty.
That reminds me of a funny story:
A while ago, I was at the Guerlain counter having fun shopping (by myself), blabbing with the SAs and “bragging” that it was so much fun shopping without hubby when, lo and behold, hubby – who was supposed to be in a different store altogether – came sneeking right behind me, just as I was saying this!!! Of course, he knew exactly where to find me (he just has to zoom in to the beauty department of any store, usually around MAC, NARS, Guerlain, Chanel or the fragrances counters lol!…). I’m THAT predictable! Anyway, it was a bit of an embarassing moment for sure!

Christy Avatar

Before, I liked to shop with others. Now, I prefer to shop on my own so I can be more focused and reflective on my current collection. I find when I’m with friends or family I tend to impulse buy more, rather than stick to my list.

Jennifer Avatar

I don’t really like to shop with people when I get my make up. My friends aren’t really into it, and my mom would just frown if say I wanted to spend 30 plus on a lipstick. Plus she would try to get me to get light mom like colors lol … I don’t mind her coming with me, but I’m usually like “I’m heading over to MAC, I’ll meet you back at Estee.” lol

amy Avatar

It really depends. Sometimes I like the company and sometimes I need to just buy what I need/want and they get out of there. I find that sometimes when I am with friends I buy a lot of things I don’t need, but sometimes they can also stop you from getting things you don’t need. So really it is a double edged sword. However, it is a lot more fun shopping with friends who like fashion and beauty than by myself sometimes.

Brigitte Avatar

Same here. I go at it alone. I can take my time or if ~I’m~ in a time crunch I know how to go at my own hurried pace and still get what I need. No one I know is into beauty either boo… :\

Angela Avatar

I prefer to shop alone so that I’m not rushed and so that people don’t give me their opinion of what products they like. Honestly I know what I like and don’t like when others attempt to persuade me into what they like.

Christina Avatar

None of my friends are really into shopping, so I shop with my boyfriend. He’s really patient for a boy! My family just gets really annoyed at me for taking too long to buy anything. I also like having him around to talk to while I shop, and when I’m looking at makeup he really tries to use the correct names for everything and it’s really cute!

Chrissy Avatar

I’m the same way, I shop by myself regularly just because most of my family/friends aren’t as into makeup like myself thus I don’t want to waste their time. Plus, quite honestly, I feel like I’ll get judged for the the $$ I dish out and quantity of makeup I purchase.

Evelyn Avatar

a few of my friend are also into beauty so i go with them :]
but if its with others i would rather go by myself so i dont waste their time and i dont feel rushed haha
if im with them and i HAVE to get something, ill be like “im really sorry…but i need to go to mac” hahah and they just go “…fine.” hehe >:]

Ashley Avatar

Preferably alone. I can end up spending hours in a store looking through makeup, so my friends and family tend to get annoyed with me ahah. Even when I know what I am looking for and only need/want that specific item, I tend to get distracted and look at a lot of other things.

However, I will go with friends if they are wanting to get makeup as well.

Jennifer Avatar

I only have one friend who is as much of a beauty addict as I am, and she lives many states away, so most of the time I go beauty shopping alone. I would rather be alone and have all the time in the world to swatch and play – I can’t stand feeling like people are bored while following me around various stores and makeup counters!!

aradhana Avatar

mostly it’s easier on my own since it can take me a while to make up my mind…but it really does depend, because with some friends who are really into cosmetics it is really fun!

Kaylie Avatar

I completely agree with you, none of my friends are into beauty either, so whenever I go shopping with them, I feel like they don’t really want to be there, and I feel guilty about it lol, so I always go alone.

Rebecca Avatar

I have just one friend that I really like to shop with. She understands. She’s a makeup addict too. I’m afraid that anyone else will just be astonished at the time and amount I can spend…. And that just ruins all the fun!

Torie Avatar

I am more frugal when I shop w/others bc I’m too embarrassed too spend alot of money on makeup. My friends and family aren’t too interested either. So therefore I DO like to go by myself.

Tattoo Girl Avatar

I usually go alone. But soemtimes my husband comes with me. He is really good about acting interested. I do the same for him at the video game store though!

Candee Avatar

Hi, this is my first time on your site and it is awesome! will definitely be back! When I shop for beauty products for myself, I go by myself. I usually take forever looking around and trying everything that my friends/family get bored. But whenever one of my friends/family need help shopping for beauty products i go with them, and will rarely buy anything. If i like something, i’ll just keep it in mind and go back another time by myself. lol

Sanderlees Avatar

I definitely prefer to shop by myself… whether it is beauty products or clothes… like you, i prefer to take my time and when i am with people, I feel restricted. Also, sometimes they go into stores that you are just not interested in and you end up standing in there bored and waiting…

Sushi Flower Avatar

I also prefer to shop for beauty products by myself. I always feel rushed when I’m shopping with others. However, it is more fun to shop with a group of girls than alone; so I guess it depends on if you’re just browsing or seriously looking for something specific to buy.

Victoria Maria Avatar

I agree – I don’t drag my friends along, since I spend so much time at makeup stands it’s ridiculous….I have one friend that loves shopping fo makeup, bu she lives in Dubai, so we don’t get to shop together very often.

Sass Avatar

When I’m at the MAC store and Sephora I like to go by myself. At the MAC counter and the CCO I like to go with my best fried. Weird, but that’s just how I am. I need to concentrate and take my time at the MAC store and at Sephora. So much to see and test out. I don’t want the distractions.

Nicci Avatar

Usually by myself. Most of my friends are not into the same brands as myself or just not into make-up. My boyfriend though sometimes likes to go to Sephora and he always wants to come if I am getting a make-over. He likes to see the end result & tries to have some say, especially the color of the lipstick. He wants me to wear more reds.

Sandy Avatar

By myself – None of my friends love makeup like I do or only like 1 brand where as I’m all over the place. I don’t stick to just one line of makeup.

Vern Avatar

I typically go by myself … but when I really need someone opinion I take my mom like when it’s time for swatching for a new foundation or lippies. We all know that they will sale you anything even if it looks like crap so I have them do the work (swatching picking colors and stuff) and you know the first thing the sales person says is “That color is perfect” or “It looks great on you” but regardless of what they say I turn right to my mom and ask her opinion …lol. Its a habit plus I know she wont steer me wrong.

Bridgette Avatar

I usually go by myself cause with my dad he nags about my purchases. But when I am in Texas visiting my mom and sister. I go make up shopping with either one of them or both! And when my boyfriend comes over I make him go make up shopping with me. And my boyfriend hated make up shopping before cause I would have to drag him into the store. But now he is cool with it and sometimes he helps me pick out some stuff like the Luck Charms eye shadow duo I got from Too Faced. And he also helped me pick out my favorite blush Luster from NARS. And there are times when I go with my friends to go for some make up shopping.

Christina Avatar

I don’t really like shopping for anything with other people, but particularly makeup. I have definitely spent well over an hour in Sephora…if others had to endure that they’d probably strangle me.

Becca Avatar

For the most part I go by myself…I can debate over and e/s for a good 30 minutes and that can be frustrating for a friend/family member waiting on me. I have a few friends and my mom/sister that are as anal about being SURE you want something so they work well for shopping partners. As for clothing I never go it alone, I need an HONEST second opinion.
