I’m upset the palette is rouge only. I haven’t looked into the other sets yet. I really want to get the palette cause all the colors look great and I love the all in one nature. Plus the blushes look awesome.
I thought it was just a Sephora exclusive, not Roughe only?
I don’t think it is permanently Rouge only. It is only available to purchase via Sephora if you are a Rouge. This should be available for all to buy when all the other holiday products come out, probably early November. I work at Sephora and that is my understanding.
I checked out the Tarte Pretty Paintbox Set at Sephora VIB Rouge Appreciation event yesterday, and was pleasantly surprised. I’ve never been all that impressed with Tarte palettes, esp their holiday ones, but the shadows swatched much better than expected. I swatched on my arm, with no primer. I also noticed that some of the shadows performed better after being swiped by multiple people, so you should swipe/rub multiple times to get rid of the drier layer on top. 18 of the shadows are ok/good/great, and 6 of the lightest mattes are not that great, but I use those for browbone, so not big deal. The dark mattes are easily buildable to opaque after a few swipes, the satins are good to great, medium mattes are mixed bag, and the lightest mattes (6 shades) aren’t that great but can be used on browbone. And it didn’t kick up any dust either. The 2 blushes and 1 highlighter are smooth and decent pigment. There’s also a matte brown shade that can be used as blush and/or contour. There’s an eyeliner, mascara, mirror, and small deluxe lip paint (obvi). Set is made in China, but overall, I was pretty impressed. The shadows aren’t UD quality but pretty good for Tarte, definitely a decent holiday palette, and the shadows were well organized into rows of easy-to-figure out color combos. There’s even some blue and purple shadows in there! The case is pretty bulky though, but it’s still light enough to travel with. It’s kind of pricey for Tarte, but you might be able to catch sales/promos, I recommend checking this one out.
Oh, I will be, Katherine! ?
If this Paintbox Palette reviews well here, I will DEFINITELY be getting it! It just looks perfect for not only travel, but to pull out on less inspired days, because the looks are right there in my face! Don’t have to think very hard to put something together with it.
I have mixed feelings about the pretty paintbox. Like Katherine said 18 of the 24 are good. The first vertical row is so/so. Some of the colors barely show up on me and I’m like a NC30. A lot of the darker colors, mainly the blue, charcoal and black, look identical when swatched.
Trying to decide whether to return this or keep it. Especially since I have about 8 or 9 other tarte palettes.
Yes, that far left vertical column of the lightest shadows is the worst!! I can see that column bringing the whole score down for an otherwise decent palette. Oh no, sorry to hear the darker colors look the same on you. I’m much lighter (NC 15-20?), so they showed up very distinctly on me as black, purple, navy, etc. I only have 1 small travel Tarte palette (the Double Duty Classic Courage ), will be testing it this week to see if it holds up on my super oily lids. But I do LOVE their LE metallic singles -those are SO awesome, wish they had done a value holiday palette with those.
T.R., I wish I would have read your review before I jumped on the hype bandwagon and bought this online yesterday! It seems like this will be a lose for me as I’m the same skin tone as Beyonce. I usually skip a lot of the holiday palettes because they’re generally poorer quality and don’t have enough shades that suit med/tan/brown complexions. I also have a gazillion Tarte palettes.
It may show up on you. I’m light bright and so these paler shades do not translate over to my skin tone. See how it works on you. I do love many of the other colors. I wish I could post a picture of my swatches here so I can see what I mean.
Ugh what are they thinking making this Rouge only?! I had my card out ready to purchase. Boo!
It is lovely though and seemingly a great value.
The makeup case palette is gorgeous! I wonder how the quality is. Last year, the eyeshadows on Tarte’s holiday offerings were pretty awful. I want the little blush set.
I really don’t like the built in palette thing they do, I wish it could be removed. I’d have to see it un person. It might be good as just a travel item.
I bought this palette yesterday. There is an issue with my palette though, mine came with three brozers/contour different shades all of them and no blush at all. It is confusing, Ive seen all promo pics and even on sephoras descpription it says moment coral blush. Mine says moment but is a matte brronzer! Weird, and I think the one on display looked the same as mine. I don’t want to return it because is a great bronzer, and I’m afraid is sold out but mine is not a “complete” as a all in one palette because I need a blush.
By the way, this is a rouge pre sale, then it will be available for all beauty insiders, at least this s what I know.
Call Sephora customer service. They are pretty good at resolving issues like that.
Yes I am going to call them. Thanks
Yours is defective. I swatched the palette in store yesterday, and the palette is just as the above promo pic shows. There is a coral blush in there, along with a light highlighter, a sparkly brown, and a matte brown. Hopefully you can return or exchange it.
The blush set looks nice, but Tarte never seems to produce enough of these holiday blush sets for me to get one if I don’t decide to nab it right the day it comes out. :/
It looks like I’m in the minority here, but my thoughts when I first saw the collection was “ugh, how many years in a row is Tarte going to come up with huge palettes of neutrals made in China?”. My personal experience with Tarte palette has been quite poor so far, so I’m absolutely not interested. The blushes, maybe, but the colors don’t look unique.
While I’m not sure on the Paintbox set, those blushes do look cute!
UGH, I really wish Tarte would get rid of these huge bulky zip up holiday palettes, i bought last years, and even though it is pretty, it rarely gets use due to the bulkiness of the case, i end up having to store it someone else rather then my palette drawers, I really want to buy this, but the packaging is steering me far away…. sigh* guess ill wait for swatches to see if those change my mind, If this was packaged in a sleek but large double sided palette id be all over it… hopefully next year they switch it up.
