How do you decide whether a look is "appropriate" for an occasion?

These days, it has more to do with problematic brands/brand owners than individual products, though a collection that is problematic would make me uncomfortable purchasing as well.
In beauty, not much, since I tend to purchase new products sight unseen and don’t read reviews ahead of time so I can form my own opinion! In other areas of my life, I definitely do a fair amount of research for anything more expensive.
I have many years ago (over 15 years ago), but I don’t do so now. I’m less comfortable now than I was then, and I have the budget to buy new, so I’d definitely lean that way in the future.
I don’t think it’s changed how interested I am singles — singles make me happy, and they are often the best of what eyeshadow has to offer, but palettes are infinitely more popular with the larger community so I would prioritize reviewing a new palette over singles!
Shimmer forever. I appreciate matte eyeshadows, and I definitely find they are necessary for most looks (at least, in an ideal world), but shimmers always bring me so much joy. I love how they move, shift, twinkle… so much variety in finish, color, and reflection as a result.
Mauve, which is kind of my lips but better for me! I find it goes well with a lot of other colors, too.
