At times, it was shade range or better development of undertones, but now, I think brands have really stepped it up across the board in that aspect, especially since most ranges have 30 shades or more.

I have low maintenance hair, so for me, I don’t see a massive difference; a lot of times, it’s in the development of the scent (or the lack of intensity/overpowering scents) and a bit in the texture or how well the product might rinse out or feel in the hair throughout the day.
