How could brands better address their foundation shade ranges?

How could brands better address their foundation shade ranges?

From a business/development standpoint, if the argument is “it’s too expensive to develop” (whether initially or at all) or “the market isn’t buying,” I would say why not develop mixers? It might take a little more expertise, which I’m sure many brands have, but would enable a smaller...

How did you figure out what eye colors worked for you?

How did you figure out what eye colors worked for you?

This one was total experimentation — I fell in love with eye makeup first, so I wanted to wear EVERYTHING and loved putting together new combinations so there was never any color that was off limits.

How did you figure out what cheek colors worked for you?

How did you figure out what cheek colors worked for you?

Like with lip colors, there was trial and error along with gravitating toward colors that were warmer, coral, bronzy over bubblegum pink as someone with warmer undertones. I think I can wear many shades, even when they aren’t traditionally thought of as flattering, but it is all about context –...

Has you interest in makeup fluctuated over the years?

Has you interest in makeup fluctuated over the years?

Not too much! My interest wanes a little here and there as I get overwhelmed by launches or feel like I’ve seen the umpteenth shade of blue-red lipstick but is, surprisingly, still quite strong overall. I have not yet reached a point where I’ve lost interest entirely or gotten even close that!

How did you figure out what lip colors worked for you?

I think my warmer undertones dictated color initially, like peaches and corals over grays. When I started wearing makeup, I was darker in color (did not use SPF as religiously and spent more time outdoors–I tan veryyy quickly!), so I also found brighter shades seemed more flattering on me. ...

When did makeup become important to you?

When did makeup become important to you?

When I was 18, I just fell in love, and I was looking for a hobby. It also helped me feel prettier–more normal, too–in a way I had not felt before (I had really low self-esteem in my teens and early 20s). At a certain point, it did make me feel ugly without it, but feeling that way served as a...

How do you organize your makeup? (Methodology not storage!)

How do you organize your makeup? (Methodology not storage!)

For most products, I organize by brand, and then within brand, I organize by type (or sometimes, size of a compact). I don’t usually organize by color or alphbetize products, but my MAC lipsticks are alphabetized. For eyeliners and lip liners, in the archives, I have them separated by...

What specific skin care issues have you had and what products have helped and what hasn’t?

What specific skin care issues have you had and what products have helped and what hasn’t?

For acne, topical prescriptions (clindamycin and Differin) helped combat both hormonal breakouts and milia. Recently, for dry patches, Tatcha’s Indigo Smoothing Cream has worked wonders for me. I’m working on hyper pigmentation right now, and I am seeing encouraging results with Biologique...

Are you comfortable leaving the house without makeup?

Are you comfortable leaving the house without makeup?

Yes, I am! When I first started wearing foundation, I did not. I would hate to leave without foundation on, but I have grown out of that mentality (thankfully!) after realizing that I needed to be OK with no makeup just as much as I was happy to wear all the makeup.

How would you describe your makeup style?

How would you describe your makeup style?

Experimental, LOL! And by that, I am constantly trying something new–in terms of product–but then also very standard, since I do not change up my application style/methods much (easier to compare how something works when you apply it the same every time!).
