What is the perfect number of shades in an eyeshadow palette? Why?

Anything between 9 and 15 works well for me. I think 9 is great for more complementary palettes, but if I’m looking for something more cohesive, it’s usually 12-15 that gets there for me (while still offering a good variety in depth and finish).

How often do you purchase single eyeshadows?

How often do you purchase single eyeshadows?

Definitely from time to time as I need some additional eyeshadows to review or discover a new brand that does single eyeshadows, but all my data suggests that palettes are where most readers are focused overall (and those that prefer singles tend to be covered by now).

Do you prefer making your own eyeshadow palette or purchasing a pre-made one?

In the past, I’ve enjoyed making my own, but I like the ease of a pre-made palette. I also think it is a great way to get exposed to different color stories or color combinations that might not have been readily apparent otherwise. The other issue is that pre-made palettes are so prevalent these...

What's your current technique to apply concealer over a blemish or spot?

I’ll apply foundation first, and then I’ll go in and spot conceal with a flat, synthetic brush just where I need it and then gently buff/blend with my foundation brush. I try not to set that area as much to ensure it looks more “skin-like.”

What's your current technique to apply foundation?

I usually use half a pump to one pump of each shade (I am usually mixing two shades) on one fingertip, then mixing on my face and dabbing a bit on each cheek, forehead, touch on the nose, and on my chin. I’ll usually dab a liquid illuminator in the same places (next to the foundation bits), and...

What's your current technique to apply concealer underneath your eye?

I apply a dab (I usually use liquid) of the product in the under eye area but more toward the top of my cheek bone, and then I use a synthetic foundation brush to diffuse and buff most of it out. I go back in with either a dampened sponge or a small, fluffy synthetic brush to diffuse and bring up...

How useful are brands' promotional swatches to you?

How useful are brands' promotional swatches to you?

A lot of them are heavily edited that they’ve lost meaning; when they look nearly digitally stamped on or exactly the same across three skin tones, they aren’t very useful. I like when they are well-done but still have a foot, or at least a toe, in reality.

I don’t think I’ve even come close. I’m not sure that I’ve come close to seeing a visible dip in even one shade!

Where do you apply your makeup?

Where do you apply your makeup?

There’s a bonus room that connects the main hallway to the guest bedroom, and this is the space I use for my makeup room, which contains long-term storage and my vanity–the vanity is where I sit down to do my makeup!
