What would make single eyeshadows more compelling to you?

What would make single eyeshadows more compelling to you?

I like when brands curate their single ranges into “pre-made” color combinations, which I think helps give people a better idea of how to arrange products. I’d like to see more brands organize or showcase shades for certain skin tones or undertones. I also think that brands often create a core...

What do you look for in a range of single eyeshadows?

What do you look for in a range of single eyeshadows?

I like a lot of variety in color and finish; I want to see more basic/core shades, but I also want to see a range of color. Consistency is also critical; a line of single eyeshadows that rates from A to F and ends up averaging a B overall means it’s a pass for me–that means some shades are great...

How many shades do you have to use in a palette for it to be "worth it"?

How many shades do you have to use in a palette for it to be "worth it"?

The higher the price point, the more shades I’d have to like enough to use for it to be “worth it.” I don’t have to use every shade equally, though. I don’t know if there’s a color I wouldn’t wear at some point, so for me, I’m likely to use all shades to some degree. In a smaller...

Do you usually use an eyeshadow palette alone or combine it with another palette?

Do you usually use an eyeshadow palette alone or combine it with another palette?

Both! For larger palettes, I’ll use them alone but also in combination with another palette, whether for transition shades or just to switch it up. For quads, I tend to use two together over just one.

Are there any deal-breakers when you're considering a pre-made eyeshadow palette?

Are there any deal-breakers when you're considering a pre-made eyeshadow palette?

I don’t love mega-sized palettes on the whole; I prefer 20 or less shades, generally, but it would be a bar–like I’d just be pickier about purchasing something of a greater scale. I don’t care if a palette is cohesive to be used alone so long as the color story makes some sense–I want to...

What draws you into a pre-made eyeshadow palette?

What draws you into a pre-made eyeshadow palette?

The color story and how its arranged; sometimes there can be a good color story buried in the palette, but if it isn’t arranged right, it can be hard to see. I love seeing a palette where there are instantly several looks I can see creating from the palette.

Do you depot pre-made eyeshadow palettes? Or rearrange them (if possible)?

Do you depot pre-made eyeshadow palettes? Or rearrange them (if possible)?

I haven’t depotted in nearly a decade! I can’t be bothered, though it would certainly save on storage space! For something that could be rearranged, I might do it, but at the volume I go through, I don’t bother.

How do you figure out color combinations to wear on your eyes?

How do you figure out color combinations to wear on your eyes?

Most of the time, I start with a palette since most of the eyeshadow-related releases are in palette form, so I start there. For larger palettes, I like to create two looks and do my best to showcase different looks, so I’ll try to divide the shades into two color schemes. For brighter pops of...

How do single eyeshadows fit into your routine?

How do single eyeshadows fit into your routine?

There aren’t any singles that I currently use on the regular (not that there’s much I use regularly, haha), but I definitely don’t have a lil’ quad made up of basics or anything at this point. When I pull out singles, it’s usually because I have a color combo I want to do that isn’t in...

How do you arrange your eyeshadow singles?

How do you arrange your eyeshadow singles?

By brand, then by color (rainbow-order). If the brand has a lot of singles, then I’ll do by brand, finish (matte vs. shimmer), and then by color. That’s in a perfect world; for brands that continuously release singles, that system ends up having new shades in the end or in a separate palette...
