My least favorite thing that Maybelline does is heavily scent (to the point where they sometimes result in off-tastes) their lip products. I love their lipsticks, which have always been one of their strongest areas.

They’re only just getting more on my radar these days, so I don’t have too much to say since I haven’t tried a slew of their products in recent years. I am a huge fan of the Smashbox 24HR Eyeshadow Primer and their Be Legendary lipstick range!

I like that they have a lot of budget-friendly products in their range, but I don’t like seeing some of their pricing on new products creep toward mid-end in price point – I feel like that goes against why they started.

I love a lot of their core, permanent product ranges. I wish their palettes were more in line with the quality of the permanent range, because I feel like that’s how it used to be but is less consistent now.

I like that they announce things a few weeks prior to launch, and then launch, and it doesn’t seem to be as crazy of a process as with other brands. They seem to be improving the quality of their products, too, which is nice. I would like to see them release less palettes and offer more individual products, though, like their Glow Kits as refillable pans, because I think more people would try the brand that way.

In the last year or so, I have encountered more misses than in the past, and I’d like to see that corrected, as before, the majority of products were pretty good or at least “I can see why people would want this” kind of products. I think the brand could expand their permanent offerings more often (like their blush range hasn’t grown since launch, I don’t think!) – but they don’t release tons of stuff each year either, so maybe that’s why.

I like that they release both limited edition and permanent shade extensions, which I feel offers the best of both worlds–room to experiment but not everything is a mad dash. I also feel like they have been listening to customers and complaints, as we are not seeing Orgasm/Laguna QUITE as often in sets! I’m not a huge fan of their standard eyeshadow range–I think it could be upgraded and reformulated for sure.

I like that they have started to branch out a bit more–at least we’re seeing some deeper lip colors–but I’d like to see them do that across products, like eyeshadow, blush, concealer ranges, etc. I do feel like they are trying to respond to customers, as they had a pretty quick turnaround of additional shades of Shape Tape, after it got popular. I wish they’d put out less mega sets and curate higher quality sets that are smaller but better and more functional.

I think they’ve committed to their aesthetic, which is always admirable. They have some good products, but I feel like they can spend too much time on packaging/themes and seemingly, not enough time on quality when it comes to LE releases, palettes, sets, etc.

As someone who stores their brushes standing up, I’m not a fan, because no matter how good it is, I just don’t use them. If I keep any within my reach, I only use one side!
