Natasha Denona Tropic Eyeshadow Palette ($129.00 for 0.75 oz.) is a new, limited edition 15-pan palette featuring a mix of shimmers and mattes. The new palette features plastic packaging that clicks closed compared to past iterations of the 15-pan palette.

Each pan also contains 0.05 oz. compared to 0.08 oz. from prior releases; the brand explained (via Instagram story, which I can’t find to reference) that the ingredients used were different and lighter but the pans themselves had the same volume of product. I tried weighing pans from the Tropic palette against similar finish pans from my Sunset palette, but my food scale didn’t seem to be as reliable as ideal for this low of a weight–I kept getting 0.14 oz. for each pan, but when I put two together, it would go up to 0.31 oz. (which would account for the 0.03 oz. difference in product if the pans are exactly the same). Visually, the pans were the exact same height, width, and length. I didn’t receive a box with the palette, so I don’t have a list of ingredients for this one to try and compare it against past palettes.

I have seen certain types of formulas–typically “baked” eyeshadows–weigh noticeably less than traditional powder eyeshadows, but the brand has repeated finishes between palettes (like Creamy Matte), so I’m not sure what specifically was changed that would change the weight significantly (by 0.03 oz.) but not the volume. (If there was a new finish and that was lighter, it wouldn’t seem as notable.) Just for something easy to reference, MAC Eyeshadows are typically 0.05 oz. each but Veluxe Pearls (a type of finish) are 0.04 oz., and MAC Extra Dimension Eyeshadows are all 0.04 oz. despite having a similar pan size as the regular eyeshadows and actually having part of product raised above the pan’s maximum height. Another example is Chanel’s Les 4 Ombres Eyeshadow Quads, which contains 0.07 oz. of product when the original formula contained 0.24 oz. yet they seem to take up the same volume, though it seemed to go from traditional to a more “baked” formula.

P.S. — You can view swatches of the mini Sunset palette here.

I’m excited for all of these shades. And Tropic will be joining the ND palettes in my collection. I don’t know if I necessarily care about the pan size/amount of product. I just know she makes my favorite shadows and the color combos in this are just fantastic.

I am really loving the look of this palette and Zena alone may be beautiful enough for me to pull the trigger. I am going to try to wait for your review but it’s gonna be hard😬

I am so torn by this palette! Unlike most that would gravitate toward the pop of colours, I only see myself using one of them (Exotic). So that’s 1/3 of the palette I won’t get use out of! But those mattes!!!! They’re exactly what her other palettes have been missing for me! But given that they are neutral/peachy, I am hoping I have some dupes!

Truth be told though, if the palette is still around for Sephora’s April sale I might just grab it 😂

There are some really gorgeous shades here, but all those peachy pinky ones are far too much like every other palette I have seen recently.
I love the way you have incorporated those greens in your eye look Christine.

I can dupe the entire 1st two rows until Limoncello with more than one palette but after these swatches I’m finding it doesn’t bother me as much. Can’t wait for your review.

It does look beautiful. I’m on a no buy right now, so I’m really restraining myself. Plus I’m leaving for Vegas on Monday and I do have a “little” list of things that I “might” pick up while I’m there. Oh who am I kidding, I will pick everything up on my list and possibly more! And the list is two pages!

Ive been in Scottsdale on vacation all week and too many Sephora visits! I can’t help it! My local store does not carry such a extensive inventory of Natasha Denona! But I managed to skip this palette. The Lilaand the mini sunset will come home with me though!

I wish brands would stop making palettes with so many warm light browns, pinks and oranges. Not only do I prefer cool tones but they all look so similar when you’re wearing them. Then just one random green!

Hm.. The shades, that are the more interesting do look so plain… I don’t like such neon colors on me. Good that they are not some beautiful duochromes, so that i can save me 129 dollars 🙂

I would love to know how you got such vivid swatches. I tried two separate brand new testers at Sephora and could barely get any pigment on my finger with the exception of the robin’s egg blue and the mint green frost. The texture actually seemed rubbery. I did not have a brush to try so perhaps it’s like other formulas that just swatch better with a brush than a finger. I’m a huge Natasha Denona fan and have most of her palettes but this is an easy miss for me. The formula just seems weirdly different.

I can’t justify the price given that, like many others, I’m only interested in the bottom row. I feel like the other shades have just been so overdone. Still, your swatches look decent. This might be a “will get if it’s still available when there’s a big discount” kind of palette. Thanks!

I’m really looking forward to your list of dupes for the neutral shades. I am so intrigued by this color scheme. I had a similar experience to what someone else said in trying to swatch them at Sephora – many of them did not seem as pigmented as you would think.
