Fenty Pro Filt’r Foundation ($34.00 for 1.0 fl. oz.) is available in 40 shades. Given how popular the range has become since its debut, and how wide their shade range, I thought it was worth the investment to purchase and swatch all 40 shades for readers. Here are swatches…

I was thinking the same thing. Based on these swatches I don’t think there is a match for me and I usually don’t struggle much to find a good match in foundations. I’m very surprised though, considering there is 40 shades in total.
I feel the same. I am light-medium with yellow undertones, but the warm shades in the fair to light-medium range are just too yellow even for me. Usually I am a shade lighter than Christine and I do need some yellowness in my foundation… but I look sick in 130 and 140, while 150 and 180 are too dark (and I’m not planning to get a tan).
But in the end there are tons of other foundations to try out there and each skintone is unique. 🙂 It’s great to see foundations with extensive shade ranges, but it’s impossible to suit every skin out there.

They don’t exist… I have to mix 100 & 150; 150 is a good match in undertone, but is too dark…
Since you use 100 did you find that the texture of that shade was different from 150 in the foundation?
I found 100 looked VERY dry on my skin once it dried down and almost chalky looking. The 100 shade is a winter skin tone for me but I’m thinking of getting 120 or 130 but wanted to see if it was just a shade issue in texture compared to the 150 shade.
Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r in 180 — 1/4 shade too light for face, slightly yellow
Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r in 150 — 1/4 shade too dark, slightly pink (I usually mix 180 and 150!)
Kim
The 300s range are very orange. I need a darker color of 290. And 3 of them (I think 330, 350, 360) are all pretty close. I was very sad not to be able to match.
I think the foundation looks stunning and the shade range fantastic, but I don’t see a very fair with pink undertones there – it does seem to go from white to yellow based and I am not seeing the neutral undertones either.
Thank you for organising this Christine.
Luka
I’m your skintone and can use 170 in summer. I bought a bottle of 110 to mix for the rest of the year.
100 matches my neck quite well; unfortunately, the finish emphasizes (creates?) flakiness on my face quite noticeably. Thank goodness for samples.
Mariah
I was SOOO excited for this, everyone reviews it well, and I’m an oily girl, so it’s like perfect. But it was the driest, tightest thing I’ve ever felt! It’s made me look like I had wrinkles where I had none! I feel like I did something wrong, but what? I did get the wrong color, it wasn’t in your matching system so I trusted Sephora’s matching system and got one WAY too light. But that wasn’t my problem with it. It was just in every pore, every indent, and made me have wrinkles where I never have them! Anyone else have this issue?
Sarah
I thought it was very dry as well. Also turned super orange on my skin as well. Glad I only tried a sample.
Swoozy
Yes, I had a sample and had the same issues. I really wanted to love it, but not only was it too yellow based for my skin, it both stuck in every pore and line while also sliding around my forehead. I’m glad it has a broad range for others, but this was a miss for me.
Anastasia
What did you use under it? — skincare & primer wise?
It gave me TERRIBLE smile lines! That was literally my only complaint about the foundation as everywhere else looked flawless. But I couldn’t get past the smile lines.
To anyone in this thread, have you tried the Marc Jacobs re(marc)able? I tried Fenty 100 and it looked VERY dry and chalky in texture on me.
Although Marc Jacobs re(marc)able is so thin it hugs the texture of the skin without a skin smoothing primer, it didn’t look as chalky (micro flaky) on the skin for me compared to the 100 shade.
Swoozy
Never tried Marc Jacobs. I like light to medium coverage and have had good luck with Guerlain’s Peau de Lingerie BB Cream and Guerlain Aqua Nude. They’re not perfect though, so I’m always looking for the magic formula.
Mariah
No, I’m never tried it! I kinda want a sample now! Although I just can’t see me buying marc jacobs on the reg, because it’s just SO expensive.
Kali
That’s quite the investment for our convenience! Thank you so much, Christine!
I bought mine recently, and it’s the best foundation I’ve ever used. I was anti-foundation for such a long time. Just needed to find the right one.
I am pleasantly surprised at how spring green 130 and 140 look. I have light, neutral-to-something skin with yellow and olive undertones, so yeah. Spring green. It’s so tough for me to find something that even comes close to checking all of those boxes, and these shades might work for me! For now, I’m set with my Skin79 BB cream and Medium Olive NYX drop foundation on the rare days I have time to indulge in base makeup.
Buying and swatching all 40 shades shows such incredible dedication to your blog and all your readers, Christine!
The finish on this foundation is so beautiful, and its staying power even in very hot, humid conditions is highly impressive and appreciated. Unfortunately, 260 goes on alright, but turns into a floating orange tinged face on me within an hour or two. 290 matches my undertones, but is too deep during around 5 months of the year. I wound up giving up.
That’s good to know, Nancy. We are sisters from another mister and I also matched to 260, but being neutral to olive toned myself, I was worried about it turning too warm on me.
Jill
This foundation is a dream come true for me. It’s an exact match and wears beautifully on me.
The first time (and only time) I tried out this foundation I was shocked by how badly it settled in lines I didn’t know I had! It creased in my under eye and gave me smile lines for the first time in my life. That was the only negative thing about it because other than that, I looked flawless. I had received a sample of it (in 100) along with a sample of the primer too and I might have to go back and test it with other primers to see how that affects it. I didn’t have any issues with oxidation or oil in my t-zone and I wore it for about 8 hours. I loved loved loved how it looked in all other areas but I just couldn’t get over the lines.
Thank you for investing in the WHOLE foundation line for us! I can’t wait to read the comments and see how it wore for others. 🙂
I don’t think this formula is for me, but I’ve been tempted to try. Would it be possible to add shade descriptions to future foundation posts?
I’m a complete skin dummy. It seems I can only can only skin colour in comparison to others and so I go by swatches and also shade description.
150 looks about right. 160 is too peachy and 170 looks too dark. Any neutral light olive gals out there wearingcthis foundation?
Every shade has an official shade description (if the brand has one) and is categorized within our own system (skin tone + undertone). Just click on any shade to get full details on a particular shade.
I’m neutral with some olive tones and wear 150. We’ve talked about foundation before and honestly my coloring is mild enough that I can “get away” with base products that lean in any direction–blue, yellow, olive, peach–as long as I use a light hand. But! I will say that my skin is by far greenest around my mouth and on my neck, and if I’m spot concealing in those areas Fenty is the only thing I have that matches well. You can see the olive hue it has best in the slightly wet patch on the left edge of Christine’s swatch.
Interesting. My neck throws everything off too and is the most olive as well. Thanks for the tips and info. Now that you have pointed it out, I see the green on the left of the 150 swatch.
Hey Blue: I’m a very slow deliberate thinker and I just wanted to add a much delayed comment on this thread. I get entirely what you mean by being able to ‘get away’ with any base colour. I think it may have something to do with the inherent dullness of fair to light olive skin. For me, it’s like I’ve been trying to find the perfect foundation shade for decades and never ever really nailing my undertones, just dancing around it. I can wear many options, but they are never as perfect as I would like them to be.
Thanks for the heads up on Fenty 150. It’s an excellent additive to my other foundations. I do not care for the formula on its own (too drying, too much cover) and It’s too green for my face and body; matches almost perfectly to my neck (a shade dark). I grabbed 3 trial versions from big S promo and add 1/3 of 150 to 2/3 Sunday Riley The Influencer shade 140. The Influencer is a better formula for my skin type and 140 is a good match, too peachy, but the 150 tamps down and dulls out the shade to be more beige and is probably the best match I have ever achieved by mixing foundations. It captures the perfect level of greeness.
I’m so interested that it worked! I just checked back to this thread after noticing you’d picked up Fenty 150 in another post. 🙂
It’s so interesting the way there are such distinct trends in how people understand and emphasize or hide the undertones of skin. Lately I notice way more people self-describing as neutral, which is really fascinating given how just a couple years ago we were told that almost everybody was warm or cool and that neutral was a rare exception. And of course the foundation shades available reflected that model of understanding undertones. I think people were afraid to question the paradigm because they were afraid someone would materialize to “WELL ACTUALLY” them and explain that they were actually cool because of the color of their veins or some other trick we makeup people have already heard for the last however long we’ve been cognizant of makeup. Not that I don’t think warm and cool are useful terms, but it does seem like it could be useful for some of us to break it down further like by specifying peach or blue-green or yellow-green.
I think Rihanna really hit on something by expanding both the depth of skin catered to AND a variety of undertones within that range. Admittedly there are still people who can’t find a match in Fenty either (my super golden olive toned light to medium complected little sister among them) but I think it’s part of a really cool conceptual shift. I know NARS has been doing this for a long time too, but their range is a little harder to discern which shades are going to correspond to the different undertones.
I tried 110 with the primer as samples from Sephora. At the time, 100 might have been better for me but it still looked fine. I didn’t notice any oxidation at all. The application was alright, I tried two different methods, a BB and the Sephora Airbrush foundation brush, whatever it’s named I’m not sure. What I didn’t like was it dried my skin out pretty badly and being as matte/drying as it was it made the foundation look cakey and patchy on my drier areas. I prepped the shizz out of my skin too. On my nose and center forehead where I’m oilier, it looked fine. I feel this foundation is really suited best to oily skin or maybe combo skin after a real good prep and not long for the wear time needed.

The jump from white to super yellow is kinda confusing. Where’s the more neutral-to-cool range of fair? Those shades are always sold out in stores.

I found that 110 is too pink for me. lol
Thank you Christine for you work 🙂
This is awesome!!! What shade do you wear Christine? We’re close to the same shade. (Light-medium neutral to warm)
All of my foundation matches are listed here: https://www.temptalia.com/temptalias-foundation-matches-skintone-skin-type/
