Favorite unconventional lip color? I don’t wear many unconventional lip shades being older and more conservative but I have and occasionally wear the LE shade from the MAC Star Trek release. For the life of me I cannot remember the name but it was that slightly purple/grey with no pigmentation and a bunch of shimmer. I use it as a topper when I do use it because alone, it makes me look dead.

Beauty product you use in an unconventional way? Once again, I am the conventional, conservative and boring beauty junkie so I would have to say the wildest I get is using e/s for contour and lipsticks for blush. I pretty much only use e/s for contour and have several I like so I don’t really need to buy additional contour’s. I use MAC Omega, Sephora Tranquil and several others for contour. Almost any lipstick is fair game to double as a blush.

Last time you stepped out of your beauty comfort zone? I would have to say it was when I decided to do a look that would be something similar to a look you could get from the Naked Honey palette. I used some shadows from palettes that I have and shades I have never touched before and it wasn’t very attractive. I just don’t pull off those yellow/gold/baby poo shades very well.

MAC Omega e/s is honestly probably the best everyday contour I’ve ever used, and I’ve been around the contour block: MAC, Kevyn Aucoin, Make Up For Ever, NYX, Inglot. The only comparable thing has been KA in Medium. KA is probably a little more versatile because it’s darker while still being so buildable, but for just a pop of definition on very to moderately light skin, Omega is incredibly natural yet effective.

Favorite unconventional lip color? Warm green! Sage, olive, aaahhh, I love them!

Beauty product you use in an unconventional way? I wear purple glasses, and I like to do a narrow strip of fairly opaque, purple highlighter in a < shape around the outside of my orbital bone so it looks like a reflection coming through my glasses.

Last time you stepped out of your beauty comfort zone? I tried some of those ColourPop Shimmer Stix that have been so popular, even though I know creme highlighters look awful on me. I was right.

Favorite unconventional lip color? ColourPop Getty is the only unconventional lip color I own (unless MAC Heroine is considered unconventional).

Beauty product you use in an unconventional way? I’ve used a touch of NYX Proof It Waterproof Eyeshadow Primer to keep my lipstick from feathering. You have to use the teeny tiniest bit, otherwise it can show. It’s not an ideal solution to feathering, but it can help.

Last time you stepped out of your beauty comfort zone? Every time I wear orange eyeshadow or lipstick, which isn’t very often.

Iris Avatar

I think MAC Heroine is considered unconventional in the sense that saturated purples are always included in lists of “wild” colors. If you search for unconventional lipsticks on Sephora, for example.
Do you like Getty?

Ana Maria Avatar

I use eyeshadow primer on my nose bridge, because it helps with marks from my glasses (I only wear them at work, for screen protection). I don’t consider this unconventional, as many people use their eyeshadow primer to fix `trouble` areas, even those prone to feathering, marks, wrinkles, creases.

Favorite unconventional lip color? If I’m just staying home, teal like CP x Safiya Nygaard Brucie or Bite Kale. If I’ll be going out, purple like UD Cruz or Violate, MAC Liptensity Hellbore.

Beauty product you use in an unconventional way? I cannot think of anything too unconventional…?

Last time you stepped out of your beauty comfort zone? Yesterday, I wore a glossy glittery cool fuchsia-purple lip using MAC Starstruck lipstick with a little bit of Star Memoir on top. I never go this OTT just to run a few errands! Before that, the Aurora Borealis eye look I did with PMG Nocturnal Nirvana was quite vivid and otherworldly for a trip to Walmart, LOL!

Ana Maria Avatar

Your skin tone/coloring: Light-medium yellow warm undertone, dark brown hair and skin

Favorite unconventional lip color? MAC Cyber, which on me looks very grey for a purple; it’s an unique and bold color, that surprisingly flatters me. I wish I could wear this kind of colors more.

Beauty product you use in an unconventional way? The most `unconventional` thing in my routine is using the same brush for all my face products. I actually apply powder and cheek products with the same brush; I simply set my make-up, then contour (if I do it) with the brush slightly pinched (if it’s larger/fluffier), then add a touch of either a bronzy shade or a blush. I never use a brush more than once between washes, so this works for me best and it’s fast.

Last time you stepped out of your beauty comfort zone? I rarely go out my beauty comfort zone, I think the most `uncomfortable` step was starting loving very bold lips color around 4-5 years back.

Great questions this week!

Favorite unconventional lip color? I adore unconventional lip colors and wear them as much as conventional ones. (I work from home and can get away with it.) Purples, blurples, lavenders, greens, olives, teals, blues, grays, blacks, neon pinks, neon oranges, unconventional finishes — All are pretty equally loved by me. I don’t think I could pick a single specific favorite shade…Perhaps Bite Beauty Kale or NYX Wicked Lippie in Trickery.

Beauty product you use in an unconventional way? I’ll use bronzers for eyeshadows, because they’re often in palettes. Matte bronzers that are too dark and/or too orange make great crease colors, and shimmery ones are pretty on the lid or as a one-and-done.

Sometimes I’ll use eyeliners as lipliners for unconventionally colored lip colors.

I also use many of the lipsticks in the MAC x Jeremy Scott Future Emotions 9-Color Lip Palette more for blushes than lip colors. The formulas work much better on my checks than my lips!

Last time you stepped out of your beauty comfort zone? When I bought MAC Undercover Heroine Blush. I normally wouldn’t even consider such a dark, bold blush for my very fair skin, but the color was so pretty and unusual I had to try it. Luckily, it sheers out really nicely, so I’m good if I use a big, fluffy brush and a small amount of product.

Favorite unconventional lip color? Not to brag, but I can pull off most lip colors, save very milky cool pastels. I think the most unconventional shades I wear are greige or cool browns, as they aren’t usually seen on pale warm skin tones.
Beauty product you use in an unconventional way? Highlighter as eyeshadow or eyeshadow as highlighter is about as outside-the-box that I get in terms of using products for something other than their intended purpose.
Last time you stepped out of your beauty comfort zone? Today, for sure. I ordered the Bourjois serum foundation, and it looks pretty nice so far. I usually go for heavier coverage, but I’ve actually been wanting to shift to medium or light coverage lately. Fingers crossed that my skin stays okay, because I could probably wear this foundation a lot during the winter.

Lt med ā€˜cool’ (red u/ts.). Unconventional lip color: total fave is Zoeva Life Portion..a gray green. The Kale I got at TJX is dark turquoise-y teal and bright. Clearly a one off, and not a fave. I like menswear type colors: dark green, navy, camel, gray. Somehow they seem conventional to me. Greige is big in my life. Use in an unconventional way: rarely I use a very light layer of those same darks as a draping blush. Tops is old mufe dark purple taupe. It’s an e/s, but it has that muted quality with gray in it. Out of zone: one day this summer, tried an old pink coral lipstick, frightened myself, and threw it away.

Your skin tone/colouring: Porcelain, with pink undertones

Favourite unconventional lip color? I tend to keep to conventional lip tones of bronze/brown, orange, russet, berry and red. Probably, to answer the question, was when I started using a ginger shade.

Beauty product you use in an unconventional way? I don’t really use beauty products in an unconventional way. I’m not a fan of multitasking products at all.

Last time you stepped out of your beauty comfort zone? I guess when I got the Lorac Pro Metal palette and started using that glorious goldy bronze shade Amber and started pairing it with Rose Gold and Peach, which I had never used before.

Mariella Avatar

Your skin tone/coloring: fair, cool
Favorite unconventional lip color? I don’t have any; I think green, grey, blue lips all look weird so I just wouldn’t bother (except for Halloween – I have put glittery green eyeshadow on my lips when I was dressed as a witch)
Beauty product you use in an unconventional way? I use a particular Too Faced bronzer as a very subtle blush and I use the Estee Edit’s Treat+Something+Something (I can never remember the name) as an under-eye primer for concealer. Oh, and I used Becca’s Backlight Primer as a “foundation” – that’s about as unconventional as I get. Oh, no – I’ve used both MAC’s Wedge and Omega as contours for my face!
Last time you stepped out of your beauty comfort zone? Any time I use the more red toned shadows from UD’s Game of Thrones (Weirwood Leaves) or other palettes or the orange ones in UD’s Born to Run palette (which is more often than I thought I would….wearing those shades is really “risk taking” for me!

Alecto Avatar

Your skin tone/coloring: Below my name!

Favorite unconventional lip color? Dark, deep, or bold blues (no pastel)

Beauty product you use in an unconventional way? Almost nothing. I use some contours and bronzers as eyeshadows, and I use a straight-up buttercup yellow primer/corrector to tint my foundation more yellow, since I can’t find a foundation yellow enough for me. Other than that, I’m pretty boring in my beauty product use.

Last time you stepped out of your beauty comfort zone? No idea. I’ve randomly, over the last 10 years or so, been doing things I wouldn’t have done at some point before; since I’ve made a habit of it, I don’t really “take note” when I do something I’ve never done before. I’ll likely never step outside my “comfort zone” for things that I just don’t like the look of on others (like false eyelashes or beauty marks), but not becauseit’s all too much for me, just … doesn’t float my boat. For everything that isn’t an outright dislike, it’s all fair game, and if there’s anything I haven’t done, I just haven’t gotten around to it yet.

Favorite unconventional lip color? Long long ago, it used to be KVD’s Requiem. That was also my first and last uber-matte liquid lipstick.

Beauty product you use in an unconventional way? Cream/liquid blush/bronzer as eyeshadow. All the time. Also Matte lipsticks (like the Kryolan one) as cream blush.

Last time you stepped out of your beauty comfort zone? When I bought the ABH Rivera palette. How much fun has that been!

1 ) Very fair with freckles.
2) I love a gray or black lip
3) I don’t have one, i’m pretty basic.
4) Whenever I try new brands, that is stepping out of my comfort zone.

Your skin tone/coloring: fair/cool skin (foundation matches: Fenty Pro Filt’r 110, Urban Decay All Nighter 2.5, NARS Natural Radiant Longwear 2.0 Mont Blanc, Kevyn Aucoin The Etherealist Light EF 02, L’Oreal True Match C3 Creamy Natural), gray eyes, brown hair with red highlights and scattered blonde/blue strands
Favorite unconventional lip color? Tom Ford Liev.
Beauty product you use in an unconventional way? Lately I’ve been having to wet my lashes and rub green eyeshadow on top of the wet any time I wear a green eye look, because I can’t find a green mascara that doesn’t stick to my lashes so much it’s near-impossible to remove without losing a lash.
Last time you stepped out of your beauty comfort zone? Probably when I first tried contouring my cheeks. I ended up loving it!

Erica Avatar

Your skin tone/coloring: light, MAC NC 15 to 20, med brown hair and eyes, oily skin

Favorite unconventional lip color? Greige

Beauty product you use in an unconventional way? Don’t have one due to my skin type!

Last time you stepped out of your beauty comfort zone? I’ve been doing more grey smokey eyes. I don’t do really dark eyes. Usually dark brown, grey or black is left untouched in a palette but I’ve been incorporating those shades more and more!

Ece Avatar

Your skin tone/coloring: Neutral on the warm olive side
Favorite unconventional lip color? I am very basic and I don’t have the best luscious lip shape so I guess KvD A Go Go and MAC Heroine are my unconventional lip colours, sorry for being basic

Beauty product you use in an unconventional way? I usually foil my matte eyeshadows with setting spray and apply them as eyeliner. I use bone coloured eyeshadow to blot my lip over a tissue. Ofc you can use your regular powder but I don’t want to waste my CT Powder or CoverFX setting powder for that purpose and I have an a lot of cream coloured eyeshadows in my collection.

Last time you stepped out of your beauty comfort zone? As you might tell from the answers above I am very boring but I did a super dark silvery smokey eye after seeing the Smoke Show palette. I always stick to warm greens, corals and beiges so that was a step up for me. I also did a dark shadow all over application this week. Normally I keep my inner corner and first 1/3 part of my lid super light and
darken it towards the outer V. I still think I cant pull an all over dark look but it was nice to try a new technique.

Your skin tone/coloring: above, with freckles, green/blue/gray eyes, warm brown hair.

Favorite unconventional lip color? I love tones like Bite Beauty Kale, especially this time of year, though I wish I had more of a chance to wear them.

Beauty product you use in an unconventional way? I put all my base products on with my hands/fingers since I use a lot of creams.

Last time you stepped out of your beauty comfort zone? Probably over the summer, using my Kaleidos Makeup Futurism palettes. Those palettes are made to be used outside of your comfort zone.

I have dark light/ light medium skin tone
My most unconventional lip color is grape soda by Kylie . I like it but my family says something to me anytime I wear around them !
I use any loose highlighter on my lips to get that ā€œ metal ā€œ effect. It looks the same as metal colors . I kinda actually think it looks better
I try to step out of my comfort zone regularly. If I was younger and still went to clubs and such it would probably be more often but I’m ok with it !

Blue Avatar

Your skin tone/coloring: light muted/neutral

Favorite unconventional lip color? I like most of the cooler toned unconventional lip colors, as long as they’re not too light. Purples, an array of greens, gray-taupes, teal. I’m open to warmer ones like gold or bronze, but generally find really warm lip colors harder to pull off. I also find that the very coolest toned lip colors, like blue or cold gray, clash with the warm coppery tones in my hair, so I reach for those less and pull my hair back when I do.

Beauty product you use in an unconventional way? I use eyeshadow primer on my brow tails almost every single day. A big chunk of my left eyebrow is totally “faked” and drawn on, and primer is the only way to make the makeup stick all day. I’ve had amazing longevity with Hourglass micro brow over Smashbox primer lately. It goes on really easily and beautifully and wears all day. Brows are down to about two minutes, not counting the time spent doing my base while the primer sets.

I use Becca liquid highlighter to sheer out pigmented liquid blushes and it works like a dream. I also use liquid face highlighters like Becca or Cover FX glitter drops as a body highlighter when I go to the goth club, sometimes mixed into body lotion, sometimes not.

Sometimes I highlight my highlight with glitter, just on the tiniest area of the cheek or tear duct.

I often top lip colors with loose eyeshadow pigments like Sugarpill of MAC or sheer shimmer powders like MUFE Star Powders.

Last time you stepped out of your beauty comfort zone? I briefly took a job over the summer where nobody wore makeup and it was unclear whether discernible makeup was allowed. I went to work totally bare faced a few times and other times in true 5 minute no-makeup makeup with just concealer, mascara, and brows. The job didn’t work out for other reasons, but paring it so far back has made me more efficient and minimalist than I was before. I’ve never worn much base, but I think I’m wearing even less than I have historically for everyday looks.

Your skin tone/coloring: Very fair, with a real yellow untertone which makes foundation matching a b*tch as 90% are always too pink on my skin. Any cruelty free suggstions are more than welcome!

Favorite unconventional lip color: I used to own a gorgeous teal LA splash lipstick but it dried up as I couldn’t wear it on the day-to-day. Now I stick with a good old ‘unconventional’ griege.

Beauty product you use in an unconventional way: I like to use the Illamasqua cream pigment in ‘hollow’ to contour with as I stuggle finding a contour that doesn’t look orange on my skin. It works fab and tho it is a stiff formula, I would highly recommend with a stiff brush.

Last time you stepped out of your beauty comfort zone: Because I have deepset eyes and low brows, I struggle to utilize bright eyeshadow, but i’ve recently been putting colourful colours in the inner corners instead and I really like it. Who says the inner corners only deserve highlighter!
