◾Your skin tone/coloring: Light Medium NW-25
◾Last product you bought because of packaging? A Gucci blush……had to have the package
◾Last product you bought and returned? Sigma F-80 – sheds like crazy
◾Last product you bought despite the packaging? MUFE’s new eyeshadows. I bought the 3 pan package. Cheap IMO.
I hope you were given a replacement because sigmas synthetic brushes don’t shed. It sounds like you got a bad batch there. >_<
Your skin tone/coloring: Twilight pale (neutral with a cool red punch, but I don’t shimmer in sunlight although that would make my day)
Last product you bought because of packaging? Ridiculous awful performing Korean lippies from Etude House. Honestly, Guerlain Rouge G is $51 and Givenchy Le Rouge in the 30’s for a GOOD REASON: They don’t ravage your lips, but hydrate them and give a natural HEALTHY plump lip look. And I didn’t buy one, I bought them ALL.. Wish I could return! Any idea what I can do with them other than through them away? I only tried one but will not bother with the others, fyi..
Last product you bought and returned? I’m too late to return some things that come to mind which fit this perfectly, but the most recent actually returned was an accidental second MJB Th(Ink) Highliner. (I think)
Last product you bought despite the packaging? Skincare.
Or you can send some of those rouges my way… Just an idea, hahahahaha!
Hi! 🙂 I meant that my spending on every color of the bad cosmetics, ( worst lippies ever from Korea. Etude House), was beyond ignorant of me because they hurt my lips! (I didn’t buy just one to try, they were cute so I bought all and most glosses of things in fruit shapes and cute faces.. So stupid!! Waste of money!)That makes sense, then, to buy Guerlain for a reason! 🙂 But, I do not have them all! I WISH! 😛 I’m sorry for the confusion, but rouges sent either of our way, I’m so willing to split with you! 😀
GOT IT! Not gonna lie, I was a little jealous for two. I was like “I want all the Rouge Gs too, SNIFF!” LOL
Haha!! Yeah, I had two trains of thought moving and they collided. Allow crap to enable the Rouges! Purchase! Share! HAHAHAHAHA!!!
Would it help to mix the bad lipsticks with coconut oil, Vaseline or something like that, and make it a gloss?
Hello Rachel R., Thank you for your suggestion! I have sensitive lips that dehydrate by the second due to medical issues, and I have to constantly make sure to really balm, I’ve tried everything, just to keep them okay. Even when prepped with a good mask or balm, these stains peeled my lips, created itchiness and had absolutely NO characteristic of anything I’d EVER buy. But, the Korean skincare was saving my life and I figured the cosmetics looked good, were very loved, and just stupidly bought, like, everything! After I got home yesterday, I spent the rest of the day-night pampering my poor eaten lips and mentally kicking myself. I put so many things on Luis after good oil cleansing and washcloth exfoliating and serum pushing and bite mask., they were still tore up but calmed overnight. Koreans list them as a #1 product.. 🙁
I agree with you and believe your suggestion would be a solution for many products! As long as they are somewhat safe decent products, like the kind you intentionally purpose! (I did it with face products too. Money I need, I’m ashamed and ignorant, full of regret!) Id save your suggestion in case a post is ever put up regarding how to make crappy products better! 😀 <3
Ouch, that sounds so painful. You poor dear. I’d always heard good things about Etude. I will stay away from their lipstick.
It may not be that they’re necessarily “bad” products, but just contain an ingredient you’re allergic/sensitive to. I had the same reaction many years ago to a YSL lipstick..
I’ve shied away from Asian beauty products due the ingredients not typically written in English (that I’ve seen personally!), so it’s really hard to tel…
That’s true.
Thank you, you’re sweet. I appreciate kindness. I manage! Etude is great! I’ve not gotten into the stash of lipsticks I bought, which was less than the bummer of these ridiculous liquid stain tints! The ones I have are the Summer edition Etude Lock N Summer trio of Color lips-fit.. It’s what bothered me. That dummer trio may be different from their regular Color Lip Tints, as their summer products were made to last longer, but I’ve not tried the dozens of those yet. A bad gloss that got me by being cute, to avoid, is Tonymoly Fruit Princess glosses! They’re adorable but irritating, hardly a gloss at all, difficult to put on! When I try the Etude House My blooming lips and the other lipsticks, I’ll be sure to inform you if they’re executed well enough to be worth it! 🙂 What do I do with all of them? (If failures) Others lips are not inclined to dehydrate as mine, so I can only be accountable for these words as my opinion as well as facts, if stated information about products is given, so I hope that clears it up! (Could it have been fake? No. Reputable seller. What works beat on your lips, if I nay please ask? 🙂
I’m a drug store girl when it comes to lip products, LOL! For one, I’m paranoid of heavily perfumed lippies, which includes the “luxury” brands, ever since my YSL experience. Also, unless it’s a shade I will wear regularly, I don’t like to spend too much, since I’ve had lippies go bad after a few months… I typically stick to L’Oréal & Revlon. I’ve read that NARS uses an essential oil some are allergic/sensitive to, which is why I haven’t tried any, although I’m not particularly sensitive to anything.
I think it’s because you compared them to cream lipsticks that I thought you were talking about cream lipsticks, which surprised me! as I actually find Blooming lips talk hydrating and Etoinette hasn’t given me problems either so I was confused, haha.
I’ve learned to stay away from liquid lip tints as they tend to be drying. :c (The exception being the ones with glossy finishes.) Balm type lip tints are my favorite.
OK, I didn’t realize you were talking about stains. I thought the lipsticks gave you problems. Some lipstains can be drying. I don’t really use them, so can’t recommend any. I don’t have overly sensitive lips, but I do hate anything that sucks out the moisture. I prefer tinted lip balms like Baby Lips or lip glosses.
Most lip products I use are drug store. I like Max Factor (I’m in the US, so I have to buy online), Revlon, Maybelline, Nyx and Wet n Wild Megalast are good (comfortable mattes). Higher end: Estee Lauder Pure Color are great, UD Revolution Lipsticks, Too Faced’s lipsticks (originals), and I get along with MAC most of the time. Independent: Morgana Cryptoria black tube (not too crazy about the skinnies), Colour Pop, and Performance Colors (Etsy).
Thank you, Rachel R., for your suggestions and experience! 😀 I agree with you! This was just a small spree, but they add up, so I felt ridiculous realizing I bought something meant for children. 🙁 There are wonderful products out there that behave well, unlike these, and I don’t mind them. I may make them disappear as free gifts if I find a good swapping place! Other than the one I used, of course. That’s just wrong. 🙂
You’re welcome. Don’t feel bad. We’ve all bought things that didn’t quite work out how we wanted.
Your skin tone/coloring: NC05
Last product you bought because of packaging: Almost got the MAC Keepsake Brown Eye Bag. I’m so smitten with the packing but I don’t really need any of the products.
Last product you bought and returned: UD Full Frontal Lipstick Stash Set. It came to duplicate shades, but honestly it just wasn’t worth it to get a replacement set.
Last product you bought despite the packaging: Benefit Cosmetics They’re Real! Push-Up Liner. I was hoping for the best but got the worst out of it.
Your skin tone/coloring: Light Olive (NC20)
Last product you bought because of packaging? Givenchy Phenomen’Eyes Mascara.
Last product you bought and returned? Givenchy Phenomen’Eyes Mascara. -__-
Last product you bought despite the packaging? Bite Beauty High Pigment Lip Pencil in Violet. (Love it!)
I love Violet too! *_* It was a gift for my bday and I love it!
NC15
Last product you bought because of packaging? The MAC Aquatic lipstick and blushes. I love the water drops!
Last product you bought and returned? I really can’t remember. I’ve been buying smarter now that I’m more experienced in makeup.
Last product you bought despite the packaging? Maybelline vivids lip stick. It looks cheap, but it’s a good product.
■Your skin tone/coloring: NC20
■Last product you bought because of packaging? Maybe the Vice 3? I loved the packaging, but I love the colors too!
■Last product you bought and returned? Dior Star Fluid (separated on my face), YSL Fusion Ink (also separated, sadly), Prada Eau Florale (doesn’t last AT ALL, but it’s eau de toilette, honestly, what did I expect…?).
■Last product you bought despite the packaging? NARS Smudgeproof. I feel like that packaging is wasteful (I wish it’d be a squeeze tube, think UDPP). But it’s fantastical so whatevs lol
🙂 With fragrance, the more pure oil extract is in the product, the better, but it can be expensive so they make “affordable” options.. You can find a mild essential oil or perfume oil similar to a note, put it onto your skin and then spray the Eau De Toilette over it and it will make the parada last longer! Clinging to an oil will help, period, but I prefer a good perfume one so it really smells excellent and keeps you happy! I looked up your toilette water and I suggest looking into the following: Child perfume oil, (APOTHIA.com), so good, or mixing sandalwood and rose oils before application! Child is great alone for that type of scent and a cult love. Expensive, but a little goes a long way! 🙂
You can also buy the Eau Florale lotion then spray the EDT on top to make it last longer.
That would usually be my first choice! But this particular lotion and cream has about no sillage.. That’s why I suggested an essential oil to PPP a favorite note and the eau de toilette can cling to it by merging with it. Oils have excellent sillage!
I bought a very cute girst set that included a purse one and the lotion but it made no difference! i normally use this trick but It didn’t work with Candy Florale 🙁
THIS NEVER OCCURED TO ME! I need to read what this child smells like. What an odd name. I’m afraid it will smell like lunchables and farts hahahahahahaha
Lol! It’s wonderful, Maddie! The story about how it came to be is all included in your search. Very good stuff! 😀 IF is another great one, and Kai! But the closest, I feel, is Child. Please keep me up to date with your choice and happiness! 😀 Oh, I refused to read the 3rd Divergent book due to what I read in reviews, depressing and confusing.. Oils kick serious ass. Most are better than what perfumes an toilette water we buy! It’s like a whole new world!!! 😀
Skin Tone – Neutral/Light
Last Product bought for packaging – maybe Guerlain terra ora? It definitely helped sell it when comparing to other brands. I’m not someone who buys things for packaging alone, the product has to be on-point first and foremost.
Last Product you bought and returned – it was Revlon gloss in Adorned. Way too sticky and it just reminded me that i’m really not into glosses at all. Maybe just haven’t found the right one.
Last product you bought in spite of the packaging – oh that’s easy.. NYX blushes! Pretty flimsy/plasticky but the products themselves are great. Same for the chanel cream blush… i wish chanel would amp up its packaging, it really detracts from the experience… they are such nice products and the plastic case is just cheap feeling and looking. Not looking forward to that when i finally drop the cash for dentelle precieuse.
Skintone/Colouring: Pale Neutral, NW15
Last product you bought because of packaging: Dolce & Gabbana Monica Voluptuous Lipstick because it’s gold and has my name on the side in red handwriting. I had to even buy it online without ever seeing it in person first, but how could I not get it?
Last product you bought and returned: I have never done this… I guess I have the mindset that once you use something it can’t go back, since it can’t be re-sold. Because of this, I try to be absolutely sure before I buy something (ie. try in store), so I can’t think of anything I’ve ended up buying that I would take back. However, this keeps me from buying things online that aren’t available locally.
Last product you bought despite the packaging: The UD Full Front lipstick set. I knew each tube would be small, but they are laughably and awkwardly small! At least I love the colours and formula though.
This doesn’t fit into the exact questions, but it makes me think of those beautiful Rouge G’s. I wonder if they could be more reasonably priced if it weren’t for the excessive packaging they come in? I can’t bring myself to pay that much for a single tube as is.
I would never have even considered paying that much for a single lipstick, but I might bend the rules and purchase Gemma! *_*
It’s literally the packaging.. Otherwise they would cost $30 something too. Guerlain Rouge Automatics are very similar in formula, less in cost because of no awkward mirror! Try Rose Pom Pom! ? 🙂
Regardless of size, the price would likely be the same-you’re iust paying for the label attached to the luxurious packaging…
I could care less what the brand is, as long as it performs exactly as so want, and through trial and error, there are many products I use in a large variety of cost differences. It’s about formulation. Especially if it is going to become a go-to lippie! I don’t think anyone here intentionally wants to flaunt brand names. Some things are affordable with special deals and the quality can become reasonably affordable. Give things a try if you ever can and find out! 🙂 ( There are just as many fragranced products in drugstores as everywhere else.) I’m happy for you that you’ve found products to work for you! That’s all that matters! 😀
Your skin tone/coloring: Very fair/neutral; auburn hair, hazel/green eyes
Last product you bought because of packaging? I rarely buy an item just for packagaing. However, I HAD to get the Tony Moly lip balms from Sephora. The bright lip-shaped containers were too cute for the price. Bonus: The balm is really nice, too.
Last product you bought and returned? Kat von D Studded Star palette.
Last product you bought despite the packaging? I buy e.l.f. and Wet n Wild, even though I think both of them tend to have cheap, unattractive packaging most of the time. It’s the trade-off for the price point, but it’s what’s inside that counts, and I can de-pot most of it.
Your skin tone/coloring: Medium, warm (NC25)
Last product you bought because of packaging? Bobbi Brown Sandstone Shimmer Brick. For some reason, that marbled lid sold me!
Last product you bought and returned? Josie Maran Argan Creamy Oil (dried my skin OUT. We’re talking flakes and breakage) and the Micro Mini beautyblenders (they’re a joke)
Last product you bought despite the packaging? The Urban Decay Pulp Fiction eyeshadow palette. It’s a bit bulky for travel (which is what I wanted it for), but I’m in love with the shades, so who cares! 😀
Your skin tone/coloring: Light olive
Last product you bought because of packaging?: Can’t even remember one! I’d say Benefit’s Feelin’ Dandy, not much cause the packaging was particularly appealing, but for convenience, as it was compact while holding a good few products at the same time.
Last product you bought and returned?: We can’t return things here in Italy 🙁
Last product you bought despite the packaging? Still the Feelin’ Dandy! Although so conveniente, I hate that you can take out all the products apart from the blusher!
Your skin tone/coloring: Porcelain
Last product you bought because of packaging? MAC Maleficent beauty powder. I needed a new face powder anyways and liked the wings design from that release. I wanted a MAC RHPS lipstick but with the whole online release debacle I didn’t get one (and I don’t live near a counter/store).
Last product you bought and returned? It’s been awhile. Probably the NARS gloss pencil that smelled and tasted like super chemically cleaning products.
Last product you bought despite the packaging? My Pretty Zombie blush, they come in these tiny little jars with sifters. It’s hard to get my fluffy brush in the container and pick up product evenly.
Coloring: Snow White (the character)
Bought for Packaging: Lip tar samples. An entire lip tar is a lifetime supply. Plus, no annoying squeeze tube waiting to get squished!
Bought and Returned: Shoes. I hate shoe shopping so I just order half a dozen similar styles and then return anything I don’t love.
Bought Despite Packaging: Fit me Foundation: no pump!
I think they sell pumps. 🙂
Your skin tone/coloring: Pale neutral.
Last product you bought because of packaging? – Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette. It just has the best packaging ever, probably!
Last product you bought and returned? – There’s no stores accepting returns on used makeup in Sweden, so none. And I probably wouldn’t return makeup before trying it lol.
Last product you bought despite the packaging? Make Up Store Blush in Sea Shell. The packaging isn’t that ugly, but it’s a bit ugly. Also I’ve heard the lid detaches because it’s so bad constructed lol. But it’s such I’ve always wanted to try MUS, and the shade was gorgeous and crazy pigmented so that makes up for the packaging!
Sand 40 (neutral) in the new YSL fusion ink foundation! Love it.
1.) naked 3 pallette
2.) Dior skin hydra bb cream, awful coloring and it feels so thick
3.) nyx soft matte lip creams
Skin tone/coloring: Fair with neutral undertones
Last product you bought because of packaging? Shu Uemura Choupette Eye Trio 1
Last product you bought and returned? Bumble & Bumble Thickening Hairspray. I didn’t realize till I got home that alcohol was one of the top ingredients. 🙁
Last product you bought despite the packaging? OPI Do You have This Color in Stock-holm. I hate OPI’s bulky bottles and wide brushes, but I couldn’t resist this purple!
Your skin tone/coloring: Fairest neutral. Make Up For Ever Mat Velvet + in 15 Alabaster or Koh Gen Do Msifanshi Moisture Foundation in 001 etc.
Last product you bought because of packaging? Probably the Estée Lauder Pure Color Envy mini lipstick set. I’m drawn to anything miniature because I think it’s cute! I’m liking the lipsticks and I already knew that I liked the formula but I’m still thinking that you get so little for your money. :/
Last product you bought and returned? I have no idea because I just don’t return things. Aside from the odd makeup impulse buy I don’t really buy a whole lot. Not these days! When I buy something it’s usually because I need it.
Last product you bought despite the packaging? The Benefit Cheeky Sweet Spot Box O’ Blushes. It’s not practical at all. I prefer to have blushes separate from each other so that when I travel I can just take a couple with me. I’ve never bought a blush palette before because of that very reason. However, apparently they can be depotted so when I grow tired of the packaging I’ll just move them to a Z Palette. 🙂
Your skin tone/coloring: NW50
◾Last product you bought because of packaging? Mac Goddess of the Sea lipstick
◾Last product you bought and returned? I don’t return products.
◾Last product you bought despite the packaging? Impulse cosmetics lipstick in Melancholy
Your skin tone/coloring: light with yellow undertones (Chanel B20)
Last product you bought because of packaging? MAC Keepsakes/ Viva Glamourous lip palette – I don’t own any of the Viva Glams & I like the small MAC palettes! So I thought it was perfect
Last product you bought and returned? Sephora accidentally sent me duplicates of the Mia 2 & Tamanna palette I had ordered, so even though I wasn’t charged for them I sent them back.
Last product you bought despite the packaging? Probably the Tarina Tarantino palette floriculture, I just find the cardboard palette a bit bulky but I absolutely love the shadows!
Your skin tone/coloring: Fair, cool
Last product you bought because of packaging? packaging doesn’t attract me – I’m more interested in what’s inside
Last product you bought and returned? I exchanged Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer for a better colour match; I should have returned that exchanged one – it is not a good formula for me at all; before that, MAC Dangerous Cuvee paint pot. I don’t return much of anything!
Last product you bought despite the packaging? Urban Decay Pulp Fiction eyeshadow palette – hate the graphics, hate the cardboard but love the shadows!
skin tone: light, neutral
last product you bought for packaging: Flowerbomb
last product you bought and returned: I think I’m going to return Dipbrow. I really don’t like it. 🙁
last product you bought despite the packaging: Wnw Furguson Crest Cabernet and it’s great
Your skin tone/coloring: Deep with warm undertone
Last product you bought because of packaging?
The Alluring Aquatic eyeshadows lol. While Lorelei and Sea Worship are gorgeous I probably would have skipped if the packaging wasn’t so gorgeous
Last product you bought and returned?
Philosophy Hope in a Jar. That stuff isn’t worth the hype at all. It smells like cream cheese and plastic and it’s greasy.
Last product you bought despite the packaging?
Wet n Wild matte MegaLast lipsticks. I hate that the lipstick doesn’t fully retract but these lippies are beautiful
Your skin tone/coloring: Between NC15 to 20
Last product you bought because of packaging? Marc Jacobs Twinkle Pops (actually mostly for the great formula, but also for the portability and the beautiful packaging. This also goes to their eyeliners.)
Last product you bought and returned? Not that I can recall. Not in this year at least. I usually do my research very well that I barely make mistake like this. And I kinda set my expectation pretty accurate. And I don’t believe or expect in “miracles” when it comes to any skincare products. As my skin turns better and more stable this year, I rarely get irritations or allergic to makeups, so I don’t need to return anything.
Last product you bought despite the packaging? NYX blushes, Revlon Just Bitten Lip balm. It’s not that they are bad, just very ordinary and looks cheap. But for the performance and cheap prices, they have outdone so much.
Skintone/Coloring: Fairly light, very neutral; dark-featured.
For Packaging: I don’t give in to packaging…
Returned: I swatch products, or get samples, so returning is rarely an option-unless I get an adverse reaction to a lip/eye product, as I won’t try testers anywhere other than my hand. I’ve only ever returned Anastasia eyeshadows & Sephora Moonbaked palettes, due to both causing skin tears at the corners of my eyes…
Despite Packaging: Probably my NARS eyeshadows! It’s not that I don’t like the packaging for any particular reason, but I really don’t care for singles/duos, as theye take up too much space. I have 60+ each of singles & duos, and am constantly trying to develop a system for storing them. I think a depotting session is in order…
Your skin tone/coloring: MAC NC45. Dark skin, yellow undertones.
Last product you bought because of packaging? YSL lipsticks, easily!
Last product you bought and returned? I can’t remember…I’ve been meaning to return a Marc Jacobs palette because one of the shadows came smashed, though!
Last product you bought despite the packaging? Probably Maybelline Illegal Length Mascara. I think the packaging is so plain and awful, but it’s a really nice mascara!
Dark with golden undertones. NC50
Product bought because of packaging – Laura Mercier LE All Over Face Brush. Totally frivolous holiday gift for my vanity. Most of my brushes are Hakuhodo but this brush is a cute buffer brush and will be used lovingly, yet sparingly. I also gave in and purchased the Guerlain holiday meteorites. I’ve heard good things about these pearls finally being WOC friendly. Time will tell.
Last product I bought and returned were the Maybelline matte lipsticks. No comment.
Last product I bought despite the packaging – So far I’ve bought 15 MUFE eyeshadows with the corresponding 3 pan artist palettes. Awesome textures.
Skintone/Coloring: Light Medium (around NC25)
Last product you bought because of the packaging? It was definitely the Too Faced La Creme lipstick. I love the weight and finish of the tube along with the quality of the product 🙂
Last product you bought and returned? I returned Bare Minerals Original Foundation after the first try because it settled obviously into the pores on my nose and the coverage/finish was not what I was looking for. I rarely return products but this one I absolutely despised so I exchanged it for items I’d love and use.
Last product you bought despite the packaging? The Stila Soul palette’s shiny packaging definitely isn’t my style, not to mention is going to be scratched within the first five minutes of use, but I enjoy the color selection and being able to use just one palette for travel
Your skin tone/coloring: Fair/neutral (NC15ish)
Last product you bought because of packaging? I bought a particular Chanel Dentelle highlighter off ebay because the seller included a gold and white Chanel box, even though there was a less expensive one for sale.
Last product you bought and returned? I will be returning a Makeup Academy BB cream brush – it shed so bad I had to wash my face and redo my makeup!
Last product you bought despite the packaging? I didn’t know it was going to be a problem when I bought it, but I had a heck of a time opening a bottle of Marchesa hair mist. I thought I was going to have to return it because the cap would not come off! I finally did get it open. The bottle is actually quite pretty.
If you’re still looking for a BB Cream brush, Eco Tools has a pretty good one, and it’s under $10.
I’ll check it out – thanks for the tip!
Your skin tone/coloring: NC30
Last product you bought because of packaging? I haven’t ordered it yet but I want the new Guerlain meteorites.
Last product you bought and returned? Dr. Brandt eye serum. It was $55 and looked awful once concealer was applied on top.
Last product you bought despite the packaging? MAC prolong wear concealer. I hate how the pump dispenses too much product.
Your skin tone/ colouring laura mercier porcelain armani 3.75 cool light
Last product you bought because of packaging? Mac Archie collection. I bought 2 permanent liners from the collection because I loved their packaging.
Last product you bought and returned? It’s been a long while since I returned anything to the store. Last items I gave away were mac sweet n sour, revlon creamsicle and nars lohdi. I love the colour/ tone of all three but they looked like death on me.
Last product you bought despite the packaging? Anything nars…so charade…I hate how dirty the rubberized packaging gets and my in ability to get it clean.
◆skin coloring: light medium nw20
◆purchased because of packaging: too Faced Chocolate Bar palette & and the brow kit in the new sleek black packaging)
◆product returned: urban decay cream liner
◆purchased despite packaging: the Guerlain liquid lip color (♥ the color but dislike the bulky heavy packaging)
Your skin tone/coloring: Light with yellow undertones
Last product you bought because of packaging? n/a
Last product you bought and returned? IT Cosmetics Naturally Pretty Palette. Really didn’t like it!
Last product you bought despite the packaging? Benefit’s Cheeky Sweet Spot Box O Blushes
Your skin tone/coloring: light with warm undertones
Last product you bought because of packaging? A Shupette blush Shu Uemura X Karl Lagerfeld. I mean, how could I resist when there’s a kitty on the lid??? I haven’t received it yet.
Last product you bought and returned? That was a long time ago, a Hello Kitty eye shadow stick. That thing was nasty, dry and no pigmentation
Last product you bought despite the packaging? bareMinerals BB cream shadows, I love it but the packaging is super wasteful, there’s a ton of product that ends up in the upper part of the tube and is left there to dry… I didn’t know that when I bought it though.
Your skin tone/coloring: I am usually light.
Last product you bought because of packaging? I bought the new Majorette Blush from Benefit because of the packaging. It is so cute and vintage looking.
Last product you bought and returned? I returned a few of the Metal Glam eyeshadows from Essence. They looked beautiful but all the beauty was in the overspray. Once that was gone it was lack lustre.
Last product you bought despite the packaging? The new Tarte blush palette is gorgeous but the clutch packaging is a bit bulky and inconvenient.
Your skin tone/coloring: Light with neutral to warm undertones – MAC N2/NC20
Last product you bought because of packaging? I didn’t buy anything from the Alluring Aquatics, but I still have Lorelai on my Ebay watchlist! Other than that, I think it was probably theBalm Balm Jovi?
Last product you bought and returned? We can’t really return things here in Australia, but I did return some Body Shop skincare because I reacted to it, and a Kit Cosmetics Lipstick because the bullet broke really quickly – then the replacement also broke! But I couldn’t be bothered returning it AGAIN so I just put up with it – it’s Freedom Fighter, which is an AMAZING coral colour.
Last product you bought despite the packaging? I’m not mad on the packaging of MAC Bijou, but I love the shade so bought it anyway. I can’t really think of anything else…!
Wow you guys can’t return stuff? Is that just higher end stuff or anywhere?
No, in general we can’t return things, unless they don’t meet “intended use” ie they are faulty, or you have a reaction – even then I think it’s somewhat up to the discretion of the retailer. I know I’ve returned a MAC foundation that was the wrong shade, but I think that’s definitely their policy, they’re not required to by law. An often in that situation, you will get a credit or an exchange, not a refund. It makes it really hard to try new products – if you don’t like it or it’s a crappy product, you’re stuck with it!
Your skin tone/coloring: very fair/cool
Last product you bought because of packaging? Estee Lauder Aries Zodiac Compact (solely for packaging!)
Last product you bought and returned? Hmm. A Kat Von D palette.
Last product you bought despite the packaging? The MAC Simpson’s Grand Pumpkin. I LOVE the color, but the packaging is horrid!
Your skin tone/coloring: Very Fair.
Last product you bought because of packaging?: I don’t think I’ve ever bought anything just for the packaging.
Last product you bought and returned?: Too Faced Melted Lipsticks (I found that they highlight imperfections – not a good fit for perpetually dry, flaky lips).
Last product you bought despite the packaging?: Fergie Wet n Wild lipsticks. Great formula, horrible packaging.
Your skin tone/coloring: medium olive with yellow undertone
Last product you bought because of packaging? lippie + 2 blushes from the MAC aquatic coll.
Last product you bought and returned? Don’t remember… a foundation a while back, this past spring, wrong color.
Last product you bought despite the packaging? A wnw lippie, I really hate their packaging, I always end up nicking the lippie and the cheap packaging just scuffs so easily and looks worn within like 3 o4 uses.
■Your skin tone/coloring: NW20; ginger; green eyes
■Last product you bought because of packaging? Hmmm. Vice 3? I do like the quality, though.
■Last product you bought and returned? I am a habitual returner (that’s not a word!). If I don’t love something, I return it. The last thing I returned is ABH Dipbrow in Auburn. I am a fair redhead, and there is just not a lot of good eyebrow products out there that aren’t too dark.
■Last product you bought despite the packaging? The first thing that pops into mind is The Balm palettes. They are so unnecessarily bulky, but the product is usually pretty great!
Skintone: NC 15 with warm freckles
1. I prefer everything which is in Slim Black Compacts. Stable and not wasting space.
2. I returned Benefit rockateur. Love the colour but I thought that I will not use this enough, because the packaging is uncomfortable for travelling.
3 hourglass Blush Palette. Also not that Travel friendly but as it is not available in Germany, it was even more difficult to resist, if this makes any sense. And at least it is plastic and not paperboard… 😉
Your skin tone/coloring: Dark/Deep NW47
Last product you bought because of packaging? MAC Alluring Aquatics
Last product you bought and returned? Black Radiance BB Cream
Last product you bought despite the packaging? Wet N Wild Lipsticks
Your skin tone/coloring: NW 20-ish; strongly cool undertones with some golden tan on top
Last product you bought because of packaging? I don’t think I’ve ever bought anything only because of packaging, but the packaging of the Smashbox Santigolden Age palettes (Apocalypse Now and Earth As We Know It) adds to the value of the eyeshadows (which are excellent, other than some glitter fallout from the glittery shades).
Last product you bought and returned? Sadly, Tarte’s Amazonian Clay Tinted Moisurizer Broad Spectrum SPF 20 Suncreen. The formula used to be wonderful for me, but my skin has changed, is getting dry rather than oily/combination at age 58. I had stocked up on it, but it just doesn’t look beautiful on me any more, so I returned an unopened tube.
Last product you bought despite the packaging? Benefit’s Cheeky Sweet Spot Box ‘O Blushes. I’ve really wanted to try their blushes and this is a good value for that. The packaging is cute in a way, but not my style, and it’s big, clunky, and hard to use. I plan on de-potting the blushes and putting them in a Z-Palette.
Your skin tone/coloring: Warm Medium NC-30
Last product you bought because of packaging? Shu Uemura Shupette has it all palette. It’s so cute!
Last product you bought and returned? N/A I don’t really return beauty products.
Last product you bought despite the packaging? Wet n’ Wild Fergie lipstick in Bebot Love. I’m not a fan of the packaging in these since they can break easily but I love the shade so much.
Your skin tone/coloring: Light Medium with yellow undertones
Last product you bought because of packaging?MAC Heirloom Lipsticks, the colors aren’t that unique, but the packaging tho, I just had to have it.
Last product you bought and returned? In Brazil the policy of return is awful. They just accept if the product are broken or defective (even if the shade doesn’t match your skin or the formulation cause allergies). It’s almost like: If you hate it for any other reasons, you have to suck it. :/
God bless the america!
Last product you bought despite the packaging? Tarte Pin Up Girl Blush Palette. I preferred the packaging that they released in the past year. Thin and compact, travel friendly and so glamorous!
This year I found the clutch idea so bulky and feels cheap.
Your skin tone/coloring: NW/20
Last product you bought because of packaging? Dior Holiday Collection
Last product you bought and returned? Kat Von D Studded Lipstick in Agatha – horrid finish
Last product you bought despite the packaging? Benefit Box Cheeky Sweet Spot Box O Blushes
Your skin tone/coloring: dark brown skin, yellow undertones.
Last product you bought because of packaging? YSL Wild Edition Couture Palette. Yes, I’m one of those 🙂
Last product you bought and returned? PETER THOMAS ROTH
AHA/BHA Acne Clearing Gel – actually this was an exchange. I repurchased and that particular bottle seemed to have gone bad. The gel was yellow (instead of clear) and it had a slightly unpleasant scent. The expiration date wasn’t even close. Sephora let me exchange with no drama 🙂
Last product you bought despite the packaging? I do not like Dior’s Rouge Dior Couture Colour Voluptuous Care Lipstick packaging. Visually it’s just “OK” and it feels lightweight and cheap for the price. Love the actual product, though.
Skin tone/colouring: cool-neutral vampire
Last product you bought because of packaging? Tarte Rainforest After Dark face palette. Didn’t hurt that the contents were purple themed, though 😉
Last product you bought and returned? …We can’t return things here, generally >_<
Last product you bought despite the packaging? Hm, I can't think of one, actually. Only things that I bought without considering the packaging (because I had no specific feelings about it), but then turned out to be 'meh'. Usually lipsticks that turn out to be a bit loose or rattly.
Your skin tone/coloring: light/medium olive skin tone, I wear Guerlain LdP 02
Last product you bought because of packaging? Guerlain Meteorites compact – so beautiful!
Last product you bought and returned? Benefit Fine One One. Awful! Never buying cheek+lip products ever again.
Last product you bought despite the packaging? Chanel mini brush set. Not a fan of the mesh case or mirror at all, but I love the brushes!
Your skin tone/coloring: Extremely fair and neutral cool
Last product you bought because of packaging?: Haha, what didn’t I buy because of packaging? Umm, probably a palette. I am so bad with palettes — even if they’re filled with colors I already have 17 of, if the packaging is pretty, nope. Reasoning gone.
Last product you bought and returned?: Not including something I accidentally ended up with two of (the Vice 3), I think it was Mac Rebel. It’s not that I didn’t like it, I just didn’t love it. I’ll be returning the Nyx Slim lip liners I bought recently too. Dry and smudgy at the same time? Nu uh. Anyone have suggestions for a better cheap lip liner?
Last product you bought despite the packaging? The Chocolate Bar palette. I think it’s super tacky, but I usually think Too Faced packaging is tacky. At least they’re not as bad as Benefit.
