Survey Says... May 22nd, 2019
Happy Wednesday! Here's this week's survey, which you can copy and paste and share as a comment.
- Your skin tone/coloring:
- Last product you bought on a whim?
- Last product you debated over forever but finally bought?
- Last product you wanted but finally crossed off your wish list (without buying!)?
Your skin tone/coloring: Light neutral, green eyes, salt & pepper hair
Last product you bought on a whim? In my recent Colourpop order: Jelly Much Shadow in Big Ego and Lux Lipstick in Dr. Facillier (to bring my total to $30 to avoid shipping charges).
Last product you debated over forever but finally bought? Guerlain Meteorite Pearls is the most “forever” thing I can think of. I wanted it for at least a couple years before I finally bought it during a Sephora sale a few months back.
Last product you wanted but finally crossed off your wish list (without buying!)? ABH Sultry palette. I almost bought it so many times. When it went on sale recently, it took an awful lot of willpower, but I made it through and now I’m over it!
I managed to resist Norvina, Soft Glam, Sultry, and Riviera. It isn’t easy!
Good for you! Out of your list, Riviera is the only one that didn’t give me any temptation!
I did too, and it isn’t easy!
Your skin tone/coloring: Very fair/olive.
Last product you bought on a whim? A few of the Sephora brand single shadows. I was walking past that aisle and the light hit a few of the sparkly ones just so, and it got me to stop and play. Got 3!
Last product you debated over forever but finally bought? Tom Ford Neroli Portofino deodorant. Such a splurge, but last year I stopped wearing antiperspirant to try to get less chemicals in my body, and I just wanted something that smelled good and lasted. I am SO happy with it after buying probably 15 different natural deodorants that I guess it is worth it!
Last product you wanted but finally crossed off your wish list (without buying!)? Viseart Grande Pro Vol2. Love the formula and shades but after getting the Coy palette I think I can pretty much do what I want with that one and a little creativity from my other viseart palettes (including the Editorial Brights)
Coy and Editorial Brights are my current favorite palettes to pair together! I’ve been creating looks with these two every week since I purchased them at the end of April.
Tammy, I just got Editorial Brights. I can’t wait to try it with Coy. Do you have any favorite color pairings?
I have loved everything I have tried. I have posted two Coy looks on Temptalia if you’d like to see the looks and the colors I used. I love putting Coy #11 and #8 with the EB purple in the crease, and Coy 12/3/5 together with EB #10 (I don’t even know how to describe EB #10 but it is my current favorite eyeshadow, I just love it). I put the aqua in Coy (#2) together with EB #4 for a very simple but in my opinion stunning eye look for a date with my husband. I posted a look on Instagram this week where I used the greens (Coy #10 and #7 with EB #2 and #3), and based on my friends’ comments, this was a favored look. My current favorite is the one I’m wearing today, where I used the yellows, teals/aquas, bright pink and purples together (the one I posted today at Temptalia).
I think we’re following each other on Instagram. I’ve been posting Coy and Editorial Brights combinations there.
Don’t forget to play with the lovely Coy #9. You can add it to any look and it takes everything it touches to the next level!
Thanks, Tammy! I’ll check out your looks here. I haven’t been on IG in a while due to crap going on IRL. I’ll go there this weekend and check out your looks. Your combos here sound beautiful!
Your skin tone/coloring: Fair with pink undertones
Last product you bought on a whim? The Glamlite taco palette (eep)…and the Nudestix lipgloss and lipstick. Both are coming in this week!
Last product you debated over forever but finally bought? Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire (and I love it!). I’ve been wanting a cherry smelling perfume forever and it wasn’t in the Sephora in Houston to test. So I took a leap with the 5x points and bought it. So glad I did!
Last product you wanted but finally crossed off your wish list (without buying!)? Tatcha Silk Canvas
I really wanted to like La Petite Robe Noire perfume, but it didn’t work with my chemistry. I had a chance to try it when I went to Guerlain’s boutique at Epcot.
Oh no! Bummer about your chemistry… it is a little different at first and as it sort of settles in, it smells delightful on me. And so cool that you got to sample it at Disney!
That Guerlain shop is amazing! They have testers for every Guerlain perfume, plus makeup and skin care. We go to Epcot about once a year and I always hit that store.
Medium warm
Whim: La Mer Illuminating Cushion Foundation. I was sure I wouldn’t like it but I’ve been using it for four months and I love it.
Debated over forever: Viseart Editorial Brights. I worried it was too bright and I would never use it, but I’ve been reaching for it several days a week for the past three weeks. It is the perfect accompaniment to all my colorful shimmery shadows and it takes my looks to the next level. I shouldn’t have waited so long!
Crossed off list without buying: Huda Emerald Obsessions palette. This goes in and out of my cart but I can never quite bring myself to purchase. It isn’t that I don’t love green shadow (I’m wearing a green look today). I just have some really beautiful green shadows and I’m not sure the Huda will add something worthwhile to my collection.
Tammy, can you tell me what shade you are using in the La Mer cushion foundation?
Warm Bisque 33
I thought about the Huda Emerald palette at first, but I think I look better in purple. I almost bought the Huda Amethyst palette, but after doing a little purple palette research, I settled on Colourpop’s It’s My Pleasure palette, which I love.
Seraphine, IMHO the ColourPop one is better, anyway. I got Huda Amethyst when it came out, and it’s nice, but I reach for It’s My Pleasure much more often.
Your skin tone/coloring: Light/fair with neutral undertones
Last product you bought on a whim? Sephora PRO brushes on sale! They’re numbered 89 67 and 62 and have all turned out to be great additions to my everyday collection. All together they cost me $40, taxes included.
Last product you debated over forever but finally bought?
GHD classic wave wand. I’ve been humming and hawing about this guy for 2 years now and finally decided to bite the bullet during the last VIB sale. I think it’s a great wand but the GHD heat protectant I bought to compliment it is a bit of a bust that leaves your hair as crunchy as hairspray. I’ll have to find a heat protectant to make the wavy look worthwhile – I don’t want to sacrifice my hair!
Last product you wanted but finally crossed off your wish list (without buying!)?
Natasha Denona Superglow powders in Alba and Rayo. While I really enjoy her cream blushes, I think the ‘super glow’ and basically anything with glitter particles is not up my alley.
I was personally disappointed by Sephora PRO brushes, mainly on durability rather than quality. But their classic brushes… I have from 5 years ago the #50 (the discontinued angled blush brush) which looks and performs like new to this day.
I absolutely love the Sephora Collection brushes. I have pretty much all but the double ended brushes and there isn’t one that I dislike. Their solid brush cleanser is great too. I like it better than BB. Hope you enjoy yours as much as I love mine.
Your skin tone/coloring: Light-medium warm yellow undertones, dark brown eyes and hair
Last product you bought on a whim? The Ordinary Multi-Peptide Serum for Hair Density. I just saw it on Sephora, got excited to see `peptides` and `serum` for a hair product, and simply ordered it without documenting more on the active ingredients and searching more in-depth reviews. A month in I just don’t see any results, and it even makes my scalp oilier, more itchy and even more dandruff than usual.
Last product you debated over forever but finally bought? Hourglass brow products (the gel and the pencil). A couple of influencers I watch used them a lot, I am always intrigued when I see someone using a product again and again (most only focus on `first impressions`), but I wasn’t willing to hit the bullet. But I did and I have zero regrets!
Last product you wanted but finally crossed off your wish list (without buying!)?
The Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation. I wanted to buy it during the Sephora sale, but I finally crossed it off; after trying the setting powder and being a little disappointed with it, I think the complexion products in her line are just not for my skin type.
Also, anything Olaplex. I wanted to buy the shampoo, conditioner and smoother (No. 6), but after trying the No. 3 without any results, I crossed them off my list. The protein bonder seems not to be what my hair needs; after reading a lot of reviews online trying to make it work, I realized that my hair doesn’t need the bonder and I was basically overloading it with protein and it actually looked worse.
Your skin tone/coloring: Under my name; magenta/red hair; hazel/green eyes.
Last product you bought on a whim? Tom Ford Powertrip Lip Spark. I’ve had a rough month (new, sudden health issue), and it’s so pretty, and right up my ally. I just said to myself, “eff the cost, I deserve this” and got it. For once, I’m not feeling guilty about a splurge.
Last product you debated over forever but finally bought? Viseart Coy Palette
Last product you wanted but finally crossed off your wish list (without buying!)? UD Game of Thrones Eyeshadow Palette (the quality wasn’t good enough to win out over the bulky, ugly packaging).
Rachel… I’m sorry you’ve had a rough month. I hope things turn around for you soon.
Thank you so much, ShariP! You are too sweet. Things are starting to get better this week. Have a wonderful rest of the week!
Wish you strength and quick recovery.
Thank you so much, Amalia! Things are getting better, slowly. Have a great day!
Your skin tone/coloring: Fair/Med olive
Last product you bought on a whim? Too Faced Let’s Gold-love the colours but the formula was not so good. Returned it and I rarely ever return makeup.
Last product you debated over forever but finally bought? ND Bloom face palette, and I am not sorry.
Last product you wanted but finally crossed off your wish list (without buying!)? This happens very frequently. I want everything, it seems, but wait for reviews and usually the impulse passes.
Your skin tone/coloring: light-medium, neutral undertones
Last product you bought on a whim? Cover FX Blush Duo in Mojave Mauve — which I love so much that I bought all of the other blush duos.
Last product you debated over forever but finally bought? Viseart Grande Pro 2.
Last product you wanted but finally crossed off your wish list (without buying!)? Stila Happy Hour. I love those cool colors, but I hate glitter.
BTW I realize it’s crazy to say that I didn’t buy the Stila Happy Hour palette because I hate glitter when I caved and bought the Viseart Grande Pro 2 which has plenty of glitter! The difference is that I love Viseart, I have the Grande Pro 1, and not all of the Viseart palette is glitter (I do like metallics).
Your skin tone/colouring: Light medium, yellow undertones. Dark brown hair & eyes.
Last product you bought on a whim? Viseart Rose Edit, which should arrive today.
Last product you debated over forever but finally bought? Eh, it was hardly forever but I waited several days, maybe a week before splurging on the CT Lovegasm palette. It’s not really knocking my socks off – it’s very prettier to look at that it is easy to use.
Last product you wanted but finally crossed off your wish list (without buying!)? *looks around shiftily* nothingggggg 😐
You’re skin tone/coloring: medium/warm, blonde hair, turquoise eyes
Last product you bought on a whim: Charlotte Tilbury’s Hollywood flawless filter.
Last product you debated over but finally bought: Viseart Liaison palette & persona pink palette. LOVE!
Last product you wanted but crossed off your list: Viseart Apricotine & Soleil palettes. I figured the Liason palette was more me, & have similar colors of the apricotine palette across my other palettes like Colorpop Yes Please, & some of Anastasia’s palettes
Your skin tone/coloring: Next to my name! (blue-green eyes)
Last product you bought on a whim? MAC x Aladdin Friend Like Me lipstick and Diamond In The Rough Lipglass! I cannot stop using the Lipglass, so I may need a backup, lol!
Last product you debated over forever but finally bought? UD Naked OG Palette. My daughter had tried to sell me on it all the way back when it first launched and she had bought her own, but I waited and then wound up getting Naked 2, and later on, Naked Smoky. Finally jumped at the chance when UD was DC’ing it.
Last product you wanted but finally crossed off your wish list (without buying!)? That’s a tough one, because I’m constantly talking myself out of WL items. Trying to remember, but I’m coming up empty here…. probably those gorgeous Shiseido lipsticks, but that’s only because they DC’d them.
Your skin tone/coloring: Fair/pink undertones, dark brown hair w/highlights, hazel eyes
Last product you bought on a whim? Pacific Lime Atelier Cologne
Last product you debated over forever but finally bought? Kerastase Conditioner
Last product you wanted but finally crossed off your wish list (without buying!)? Clarisonic Cleansing Brush
Your skin tone/coloring: dark hair and eyes, pale Olive skin
Last product you bought on a whim? Colour Pop Ariel lipstick. I’m a sucker for Little Mermaid and peachy lip colors even though my lips dislike the lux lipstick formula. I wear every time I’m tempted to buy another lux lipstick to remind myself that dry irritated lips is a steep price to pay for any lippie (despite the lovely MSRP price and vast color selection).
Last product you debated over forever but finally bought? Hadalobo Gokujyun Face Wash. I’m glad I purchased bc it’s an interesting texture but it’s best for people in humid environments bc of all the humectants. pH balanced, free of perfumes and dyes, and a very dense foam that only needs a pea size amount to cleanse without stripping. Fair warning: humectants DO dehydrate skin in drier environments.
Last product you wanted but finally crossed off your wish list (without buying!)? Sephora Visionary Rouge–I already have Shiseido Nightrose (plus it was expensive so I should make my dollars count!)
Your skin tone/coloring: light, MAC NC 15-20, med hair and eyes
Last product you bought on a whim?
Travel size of Ouai Wave Spray. Haven’t tried it yet!
Last product you debated over forever but finally bought?
Sol de Janero Bum Bum Cream and Winky Lux X Marzia Natura palette. Just loved the color scheme and I’d swatch in Riley Rose but never pick up. Now finally got it!
Last product you wanted but finally crossed off your wish list (without buying!)?
Eyeshadow palettes from NARS Erdem Spring Collection 2017-18? I think I only wanted for the packaging and just never got around to buying. I think they were like Nordstrom exclusive or something like that and I rarely go to a Nordstrom so out of sight, out of mind!
Your skin tone/coloring: Light, Neutral, NC 20, dirty blonde hair, blue-green eyes
Last product you bought on a whim? Urban Decay Vice in the colour Rebel!!! I have been lusting over this colour, but it was a limited edition so I was sad. But I found it in Marshalls this weekend!!! I was so excited I didn’t even open it to see if it was used (ewwww) AND it was only $9 cad (about $6.75 us) 😀 It looks as good as I thought it would!
Last product you debated over forever but finally bought? Coty Airspun Powder- it IS that good!
Last product you wanted but finally crossed off your wish list (without buying!)? ummm, can’t really think of something…I have really poor self-control lol
I’ve heard Coty Powder is good, but that it has a strong smell, so I’ve never bought it.
Whim: LQ Altered Universe in Milky Way. The sparkle is so fine, I can forget i’m too old for glitter. Great topcoat, fun solo. Debated/finally bought: Hadanomy Collagen Mist: not totally sold. Some days you have to settle for a wee tad of alcohol, but I sense too much in that one. Haven’t used it regularly enough to have an informed opinion. Crossed off: Sultry, ND, Huda New Nudes, virtually everything out this year. But, revision: how can I not buy BTR for a present? Revisited review, and really, I’m duped enough (on everything,) but what a great present….(even though I just gave the proposed recipient the GOT palette……). Hey, that’s what a Ultabucks are for.
Your skin tone/colouring: Porcelain, with pink undertones.
Last product you bought on a whim? Recently it was Colour Pop’s Foolish lipstick and I can’t stop wearing it. In the past it was Anastasia’s Sultry palette – as soon as I saw it here.
L’Oreal’s True Match foundation in Porcelain Rose – in the past their foundations have either been too yellow based or neutral, so when the new shades came out and it was on sale, I thought I would give it a go and it is perfect for me.
Last product you debated over forever but finally bought? Lorac’s Pro Metal Palette – and I totally love it. I hummed and haaed for ages and now I think it might be the one palette I would replace if most of the shades hit pan (and a couple have).
Last product you wanted but finally crossed off your wish list (without buying!)? Melt Cosmetics Smoke sessions. I realised that the teal shades I wouldn’t really use, nor the darker shades – only a couple of the olive shades I love and I do have dupes for those.
Last product you bought on a whim? CHANEL Les Indispensables eye palette AND I want to point this out, without Christine’s review. I’ll keep my fingers crossed.
Last product you debated over forever but finally bought? ABH Norvina
Last product you wanted but finally crossed off your wish list (without buying!)? N.D Sunset palette
Your skin tone/coloring: Tan Olive (NC44)
Last product you bought on a whim? Devinahs eyeshadows
Last product you debated over forever but finally bought? Colourpop eyeliners
Last product you wanted but finally crossed off your wish list (without buying!)? Anastasia’s aplettes (All of them except Mod Ren)
Your skin tone/coloring: Up by my name!
Last product you bought on a whim: Just bought a bronze and glow kit from Sephora online. Can’t wait for it to arrive to try out the different products!
Last product you debated over forever but finally bought: Tarte’s High Tides and Good Vibes palette. I kept putting it in and taking it out of my cart and I finally bit the bullet and bought it using some points. I just love the ocean-ness of it.
Last product you wanted but finally crossed off your wish list (without buying!): Some shiny Stila liquid eyeshadows. They were pretty but weren’t calling my name enough to justify the price tag.
