Comments that do not adhere to our comment policy may be removed. Discussion and debate are highly encouraged but we expect community members to participate respectfully. Please keep discussion on-topic, and if you have general feedback, a product review request, an off-topic question, or need technical support, please contact us!

Please help us streamline the comments' section and be more efficient: double-check the post above for more basic information like pricing, availability, and so on to make sure your question wasn't answered already. Comments alerting us to typos or small errors in the post are appreciated (!) but will typically be removed after errors are fixed (unless a response is needed).

We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Thank you for understanding!

This will be a tough one, as I’ve got several favourites in all these categories:

Your skin tone/coloring: pale, cool
Favorite loose setting powder? much as it pains me to say it, it’s probably Hourglass Veil loose powder stuff (whatever the name is) but I also like MAC Prep & Prime (has that been discontinued yet???) and also Coty. Laura Mercier isn’t bad either…
Favorite face primer? Becca Backstage Priming Filter (actually, 3 of her primers, sadly all gone now), The Estee Edit Prep+Treat+Glow (or whatever the name is – I bought several when they were reduced and when I saw them at Marshalls); Lise Watier Base Miracle Pore Minimizing Primer and also her Sun Smart face sunscreen which feels and acts very much like a primer – velvety and cushion-y and just lovely
Favorite setting spray? Oh…right how, it’s probably Iconic London just because it’s new. But I also like MAC Prep + Prime, a Sephora one I got some while back, one from Embryolisse (not sure it’s entirely a “setting spray”) and Shiseido Ibuki mist (probably discontinued). Clarins makes a lovely “Fix Make-up” spray that not too many people seem to know about and it’s one I’ve loved for years (especially before it was reformulated/repackaged, though the old packaging was tippy and very smash/fall/break prone).

Your skin tone/coloring: above with freckles, green eyes, warm brown hair.

Favorite loose setting powder? I don’t use any setting powders.

Favorite face primer? I have a mixture of thinner moisturizers + sunscreen as skin prep, but right now my favorite is the Wet n Wild Glass primer. I don’t know what it is, but it makes my base look amazing.

Favorite setting spray? CP (Fourth Ray?) hyaluronic setting spray. The mister is SO fine and it makes my skin look airbrushed.

Your skin tone/coloring: Light-medium with warm yellow undertones, warm brown hair and eyes

Favorite loose setting powder? None (I hate loose setting powders, too messy for me, I haven’t used one in years)

Favorite face primer? Paula’s Choice Smoothing Primer Serum SPF 30

Favorite setting spray? None (I hate the feeling of being sprayed on my face, I don’t know if I used one more than a couple of times in my life, and it was most likely a free sample of MAC Fix+)

Your skin tone/coloring: Light plus neutral u/t
Favorite loose setting powder? La Mer (the original).. last tub.. gulp.. no glimmer of anything else appealing to me.
Favorite face primer? Sisley La Tenseur, but I only wear is very rarely
Favorite setting spray? I’m using Benefit Porefessional on an almost dry sponge to apply my base. I use Sunday Riley SPF spray as a final spray on super sunny days. I think it too is d/c’d.

Your skin tone/coloring: Under my name (blue-green eyes, dark hair)

Favorite loose setting powder? RMCA No Color Powder. I bought it several years ago, and still have a TON left! It doesn’t take much of it to set my undereye area or on and next to my nose to blur pores.

Favorite face primer? Monistat Anti-chaffing Gel Cream. And mine went missing a few months ago just as I need it most!

Favorite setting spray? Either MAC Fix+ or Elf Setting Spray. Pretty much the same thing. But, for hot weather or when I know that I will have to wear a mask, I much prefer UD All Nighter to keep everything from melting off or rubbing completely off.

Favorite loose setting powder? Guerlain Les Voilettes (but I love all my setting powders)

Favorite face primer? Recently I like the Fenty Pro Filt’r Hydrating Primer

Favorite setting spray? I don’t like/use setting sprays

Your skin tone/coloring: light, MAC NC 20

Favorite loose setting powder? Bareminerals Mineral Veil

Favorite face primer? Milani Fresh Peach Glass Skin Primer

Favorite setting spray? MAC Fix+. Not really a setting spray but it’s the closest I get to a setting spray

Genevieve Avatar

Your skin tone/colouring: Porcelain, with pink undertones

Favorite loose setting powder? I don’t use a loose setting powder, but a pressed one and that is Rimmel’s Translucent Setting powder in a matte finish. I have used this one for years and it’s pretty good.

Favorite face primer? Again, an old favourite – Nude by Nature’s Airbrush primer. However the brand has just put out some new variations (darn) and I have now the Prime and Set one. I hope it is as good as their former favourite.

Favorite setting spray? I don’t use a setting spray, but probably I should.

Favorite loose setting powder? Clinique Blended Face Powder in the Natural finish.
Favorite face primer? Supergoop Glowscreen SPF 40 it blends well with all of my products and I’m very happy with it.
Favorite setting spray? Dior Forever Perfect Fix Setting Spray

Stephanie Avatar

Your skin tone/coloring: pale yellowish
Favorite loose setting powder? Too Faced Peach Perfect (rip). Currently using one from Catkin that I really like though.
Favorite face primer? Wet n Wild Impossible primer. I just wish they would make bigger tubes of it.
Favorite setting spray? Usually just whatever is cheap, to be honest.

Katrina Avatar

Your skin tone/coloring: I’m Italian and olive/tan. No longer a blonde though, but that’s temporary. I’ve reverted to my natural hair color while dealing with some medical stuff, so I’ve got nearly jet black hair like Elvis did naturally.

Favorite loose setting powder? ByTerry. It has HLA in it.

Favorite face primer? These days, I don’t ever use the same one every day. Right now I’m into the Elemis Glow Primer. I like the hourglass one but also the Dior backstage, which are probably two of my other most-used ones.

Favorite setting spray? CoverFX for matte, Tula for dewey.

Maureen Avatar

Your skin tone/coloring: See above. Pink with some peach
Favorite loose setting powder? Nars Light Reflecting Loose Setting Powder
Favorite face primer? I hate to say it and I haven’t purchased it, but I had a deluxe sample of the Tatcha Liquid Silk Canvas Primer and I loved it.
Favorite setting spray? Still seeking. If anyone has suggestions for setting sprays that work for dry and sensitive skin I’d love to hear them! (for primer, too!)
