We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Your skin tone/coloring: Above with freckles, green/gray/blue eyes, warm brown hair.
Worst purchase you made this year?
1)The UD Stoned Vibes palette… not a horrible palette, but not one I can use for a complete look. I have used the shades if I want a final glitzy touch to my look, so it’s been fine for that.
2) Colourpop The Child and Baroque palettes. I like the color stories of both of these palettes, but Colourpop has definitely changed their eyeshadow formula. The mattes are too powdery and blend out patchy for me and the shimmers are somehow satin/matte, and not shiny at all. The last palette I really liked from them was Going Coconuts palette. Their quality has really diminished for me.
Best purchase you made this year? PMGL Celestial Divinity, ND Triochrome and Metropolis, Kaleidos Lunar Lavendar, Clionadh Multichromes, BH Cosmetics Blueberry Muffin palette… so many good palettes this year.
Any purchase you regret making or not making? I regret falling for any Colourpop marketing schemes. The Child palette looked so cute, and I love the Mandolorian, it just sucks that I don’t like the palette very much.
Your skin tone/coloring: light, MAC NC 20
Worst purchase you made this year? I guess we will see. My Give Glow Vintage Rose palette is coming tomorrow. I’ve heard many have received palettes not filled. I guess Black Friday was crazy for them. I’m crossing my fingers my palette will arrive ok and I don’t have to bother with customer service. I had my fill with the poor service Sephora offers so I cannot say I had bad products from Sephora but I definitely regret shopping with them and I’m trying my hardest never to shop with them again!
Best purchase you made this year? Natasha Denona Safari and Chanel Cuivre Rose eyeshadow and Ultra Velvet foundation. Also MAC Sand Tropez Foiled Eyeshadow and any purchase I’ve made from their Holiday collection
Any purchase you regret making or not making? Not really. If I don’t have it, I didn’t really want it
Your skin tone/coloring: Under my name; magenta/red hair; hazel/green eyes.
Worst purchase you made this year? Melt 420 Palette
Best purchase you made this year? Volition Beauty Strawberry-C Serum. It brought my skin under control after all the peri-menopausal and menopausal changes. It doesn’t burn or irritate my skin like some other Vitamin C serums I’ve tried. As for makeup…IDK. I’ve bought stuff I haven’t worn yet due to the pandemic. I’d say Sydney Grace eyeshadow singles and palettes are up there, as are the SugarPill C2 Capsule Collection Palette, Devinah duo-/multi-chromes, and my bluish-gray eye palette from Lethel Cosmetics. I’m very happy with the ND Glam and Triochrome palettes, as well.
Any purchase you regret making or not making? I deeply regret buying the Melt 420 Palette. I should have waited for a few more reviews. The opposite with their Muerte palette — I waited to long and it was suddenly gone. I regret missing out on that one. I also kind of regret not getting any of their Beetlejuice collection, but I really mostly wanted it for the packaging, and I don’t buy expensive items just for the packaging.
To clarify, I have worn the items I mentioned above. I have other palettes and items I haven’t used yet, but I suspect could be contenders if I actually used them.
Your skin tone/coloring: pale, cool
Worst purchase you made this year? I’m lucky not to have made any truly bad purchases so, looking through what I did buy this year, the “worst” (in that I just don’t use it and it’s not as thrilling as I’d hoped it would be) is Sephora’s Matinee Lipstories lipstick. It should be a real winner – it’s not matte, it’s the sort of colour that flatters me but for some reason, I just don’t really like it.
Best purchase you made this year? Oy vey…where to start???? Possibly Dior’s Jungle 5-pan, though for value (I got it for $15.99 CDN) and also practicality and overall wonderfulness, the NARS Voyageur Suede 6 pan is a little rectangle of happiness for me.
Any purchase you regret making or not making? Nah – not really. Still wish I had a Chanel counter I could go to in person though – that’s my big regret!
Your skin tone/coloring: Under my name (blue-green eyes, dark hair)
Worst purchase you made this year? It must be ColourPop’s Ur A QT Palette. Not due to poor quality, either. But the shades go on far warmer than they appear in pan.
Best purchase you made this year? That I bought myself? Charlotte Tilbury Bejeweled Palette! But it ties with a gift I received: Natasha Denona Glam Palette.
Any purchase you regret making or not making? Other than CP Ur A QT, just that very bright Sugarpill C1 palette. Not because it isn’t good quality, just more vivid than my old face can look right in lately. Yet, I do still occasionally use both palettes in conjunction with others.
Your skin tone/coloring: Light medium with warm yellow undertones, dark brown hair and eyes
Worst purchase you made this year? I don’t actually remember a big bad purchase this year. I mean, the worst I can think is the Drunk Elephant set with body and hair care products I ordered just to get my Sephora birthday gift (and because I was curious), and even this is not that bad.
Best purchase you made this year? Beauty wise, all my skincare investments were worthwhile and I think I also purchased everything only during sales. 😅
Any purchase you regret making or not making? I’ve purchased anything I wanted and I don’t regret purchasing something; I mean, even the products I didn’t end up liking I used up and I don’t regret trying them, since I had to try them in order to see it.
Your skin tone/colouring: Porcelain, with pink undertones
Worst purchase you made this year? Probably the PMG Mini lipsticks – they are really stiff and hard to apply. A mistake.
Best purchase you made this year? Definitely the PMG Sublime Mini and ND Glam palette.
Any purchase you regret making or not making? I am still debating with myself over the ND Bronze palette – simply because I love the bronze shades and ND’s formulas.
Your skin tone/coloring: Cool toned, pale skin
Worst purchase you made this year? Natasha Denona Diamond & Blush Palette
Best purchase you made this year? Revlon Root Erase Hair Color (game changer!)
Any purchase you regret making or not making? Still haven’t pulled the trigger on the NuFace device…going back & forth on that one!
Your skin tone/colouring: Light medium, yellow undertones. dark brown hair & eyes.
Worst purchase you made this year? Physicians Formula Rose All Play Bouquet eyeshadow palette. Used it once and it went straight into the recycle pile. Ugh. Also hated CP Going Coconuts, everyone else seems to rave about it and I’m a massive Colourpop fan but man, I despised that palette and got rid of it without even blinking.
Best purchase you made this year? PMG Celestial Divinity for makeup and BH Cosmetics Poolside Chic brush set for tools.
Any purchase you regret making or not making? I am not doing my ND Bronze palette justice, and while I was tempted by Glam and Trichrome I have managed to resist so far. I have also noticed that Lila has disappeared off somewhere, I didn’t realise that was discontinued…
Worst purchase you made this year? The Peripera Colorfit Water Gel Tint in “#Redbeanpress”. I bought it on a whim at a CVS in early March while visiting a friend in New Jersey (feels like a million years ago, that friend doesn’t even live in Jersey anymore). The “taste” that a lot of watery tints have is intense in this product, and the lasting power is by far the worst of anything I’ve ever tried
Best purchase you made this year? This was actually hard to figure out because since I’ve decreased spending and been more particular with my purchases I’ve actually been happier with them overall. I’d say it’s pretty split between the ABH Jackie Aina palette and the Colourpop The Child palette
Any purchase you regret making or not making? It’s not that I have products I regret not buying, but I have a list of additional things I would have bought had this year not gone the way it did. I wanted to try the Colourpop Lux Lip Oils and their Lippie Pencils this year, as well as their Super Shock Highlighter in the giant packaging, and the Fade Into Hue and the Hello Kitty palette. I also wanted to try the Fenty powder bronzers and cream blushes, the MAC traditional lipsticks, and some shadows from the Clionadh Stained Glass collection
