Your skin tone/coloring: Very fair, neutral to cool.

What do you use to clean brushes? Usually just bar soap – I think I currently am using Ivory.

How often do you clean your brushes? …. Not often enough.

Do you enjoy cleaning your brushes? Nope (hence why I never do it), but I enjoy having clean brushes!

Seraphine Avatar

Your skin tone/coloring: Light neutral skin tone, green eyes, salt & pepper hair

What do you use to clean brushes? Dawn dishwashing liquid (the original version), then I hang them to dry, brush side down.

How often do you clean your brushes? Twice a week, usually Wednesdays and Sundays. Since I have several foundation brushes, I never use one more than twice before washing.

Do you enjoy cleaning your brushes? It’s a chore, as I usually clean about 14 brushes at a time. I like to always have a clean brush to work with, so I find cleaning them to be rewarding.

Your skin tone/coloring: NC25
What do you use to clean brushes? Dr Bronner’s liquid soap (lavender scent)
How often do you clean your brushes? Once a month, or about once every two weeks (ideally)
Do you enjoy cleaning your brushes? Yes! I don’t have too many so it doesn’t take a long time and it’s such a nice experience being able to use clean brushes again. Plusss it’s totally satisfying watching the makeup come off the brushes.

What do I use to clean my brushes: BeautyBlender’s solid brush cleanser

How often do I clean my brushes: Not enough. No really, it’s bad.

Do I enjoy cleaning my brushes: No. But having clean brushes to use is awesome!

Your skin tone/coloring: fair, cool
What do you use to clean brushes? Dr. Bronner’s (the peppermint one) – Christine, you mentioned using this years ago and that was enough of an endorsement for me; Johnson and Johnson baby shampoo or PUR Minerals face wash (a green one that hasn’t been around for years but I have a very large bottle of it)
How often do you clean your brushes? It varies; e/s brushes more often, foundation brushes less because I often don’t wear foundation at all and powder brushes least of all
Do you enjoy cleaning your brushes? not really; I like having clean brushes but I also like having a clean car but I don’t really enjoy the “process” of washing either!

Mariella Avatar

Oh dear – how could I forget Quo solid brush cleaner??? That product is wonderful and has the loveliest of gentle, mild scents. I had my husband drill a small hole in the lid so it would dry fully. I haven’t used it in a while so I need to pull it out to use again (hence forgetting to add it to this list).

It was interesting reading the other replies. Almost everyone else’s response was similar to mine – nice to have clean brushes but not something people enjoy doing.

Celesta Avatar

Your skin tone/coloring: Fair with neutral undertones and freckles.

What do you use to clean brushes? For my eye brushes, a beauty blender solid or the Sephora brush cleaner solid and for my face brushes a natural brush balm that I found on amazon.

How often do you clean your brushes? I try to clean them once a month, but that doesn’t always happen, lol

Do you enjoy cleaning your brushes? Not particularly. I enjoy when they’re clean though!

Patty Avatar

Skin tone: Palest of the Pale
Brush cleaner: Beauty Blender solid (contact allergy to a preservative that is ridiculously common in liquid soap products.)
How often: Eye brushes about twice a week. Other types weekly or twice a month.
Enjoy it: Yes in a way! My husband invented and made for me a genius drying spiral and every time I use it I’m reminded of how creative and thoughtful he is!

Your skin tone/coloring: Fair neutral
What do you use to clean brushes? Dr. Bronners Pure Castile Soap
How often do you clean your brushes? Once a month. I should do this more often but… (see next answer)
Do you enjoy cleaning your brushes? I don’t like doing it and it is very time consuming. Maybe if I downsized my brushes, I would wash more frequently!

Linda Avatar

NC20-ish (more olive than warm)

I use the Beauty Blender solid for everything but my foundation brushes. The best cleanser I’ve found for foundation brushes is Neutrogena’s All-in-One Makeup Removing Cleansing lotion. It gets those bristles white again in one pump.

I don’t mind cleaning brushes, do it about once a week and bring my laptop into the bathroom to entertain myself.

Skin tone/coloring: light medium neutral, blue eyes, magenta highlights

What do I use to clean brushes ? A cable of Fels Naptha laundry soap, sometimes against a brush cleaning mat

How often do I clean brushes? I clean my powder, bronzer and blush brushes once a week. I clean my eye shadow brushes every few weeks.

Do I enjoy cleaning my brushes? Yes. Most of them are white goat hair from a Sonia Kashuk set and it is very satisfying seeing them white again .

Your skin tone/coloring: warm, fair

What do you use to clean brushes? Dr Bronner’s Baby Unscented castile soap

How often do you clean your brushes? Weekly (it’s part of my Sunday night routine)

Do you enjoy cleaning your brushes? Nope. It’s tedious. But must do — I have had eyelid irritation problems that I can attribute to certain products, so am overly careful now on all things eyes-related including brushes

Your skin tone/coloring: Very fair with neutral undertones

What do you use to clean brushes? Cinema Secrets for daily; baby shampoo or e.l.f. Brush Shampoo for foundation brushes and deeper cleaning

How often do you clean your brushes? After use with the Cinema Secrets, then about once a week for a deeper cleaning with shampoo. Foundation brushes and beauty sponges get shampooed after each use, instead of Cinema Secrets.

Do you enjoy cleaning your brushes? No, but it has to be done.

janine Avatar

I clean my brushes on Sunday and I’ve been using the haukahodo bar soap, some beauty blender bar soap samples I have or the Mac liquid.

I’d like to try cinematic secrets? If that’s the name.

I prefer using white bristle brushes not sure why. I bought one of those plastic things to hang them to dry.

Your skin tone/coloring: Med-Tan olive

What do you use to clean brushes? I use the Zote laundry bar, for deep cleaning, and homemade spray suggested by Enkore. Also in between cleanings, a microfiber towel for excess removal or color change, or a old clean sponge.

How often do you clean your brushes? Every use, with a sponge to take off the product for e/s brushes, and a microfiber towel to take off excess from large brushes, then the spray cleaner. Deep clean? Maybe once a year. LOL, I have too many brushes for the amount of makeup I wear, even though I don’t wear makeup much anymore, I still enjoy it occasionally, and love clean brushes.

Do you enjoy cleaning your brushes? Yes! I find it immensely satisfying. I just don’t like waiting for them to dry.

CeeBee Avatar

Your skin tone/coloring: Light medium, yellow undertones, dark brown hair & eyes.

What do you use to clean brushes? Beauty Blender solid at the mo, but have just ordered some Clean Apothecary brush shampoo to try out. I spot clean in between with isopropyl alcohol and a microfibre cloth.

How often do you clean your brushes? Depends. Foundation and concealer brushes maybe once every 7 – 10 days, eyeshadow brushes get more spot cleaning but I have duplicates in rotation also, and powder brushes as needed. A full deep clean and dry in the sun every 6 – 8 weeks overall, I guess.

Do you enjoy cleaning your brushes? I used to find it a total drag but now I tolerate it a bit better. I enjoy having clean, fresh brushes more than I enjoy the actual washing process but a nice view and some music make the actually sudsing and rinsing more bearable.

NC 30. Neutral/warm
I just got a free sample from sephora. It’s like a soap to clean beauty blenders/brushes
It’s fantastic! Much better than the soap I was using. Quick & easy.
How often do you clean your brushes? Just about every time I use them. It’s a pain, but a must, since I’m always switching up makeup. The Sephora soap helps a lot
Do you enjoy cleaning your brushes. No! But, no choice. Wiping them on a tissue doesn’t work when switching colors, etc.
Maybe I should buy multiple brushes.

Seraphine Avatar

I’m like you…I need a clean brush for every color, so I bought backups. I use about 3-4 eyeshadow brushes every day. I use it, then it goes into a cup for dirty brushes. With backups, it adds up fast! But it’s worth it to always have clean, dry brushes on hand.

Nicole Avatar

Your skin tone/coloring: light with neutral undertones

What do you use to clean brushes? I recently tried Zote soap for my beauty blenders- it worked well but left a film on them. Yuck. Usually use Clinique’s Take The Day Off Balm for those. For brushes I use Daiso’s brush cleaner and love it.

How often do you clean your brushes? The number per year is embarrassingly low.

Do you enjoy cleaning your brushes? Nope, not at all. I have two Sigma brush trees and a brush mat and yet I still hate cleaning them. Love love love clean brushes though.

thirteenthirteen Avatar

Your skin tone/coloring: Not sure why this matters, but NC20.

What do you use to clean brushes? Right now I’m using a solid brush cleaning soap from Sephora. I honestly think this is one of the best cleansers I’ve ever used, it gets my brushes really soft and even though there are cheaper options, it has lasted me a LONG time. (I think i got it in 2016 and although I have major “pan” on it, I figure it’ll last another few months.)

How often do you clean your brushes? Once a week, every Sunday. Every evening I swipe the brushes I used that morning with a microfiber cloth as well.

Do you enjoy cleaning your brushes? I mean, I don’t hate it, but I don’t find it super fun. It’s just one of the many chores I do every Sunday, which is my day for getting things done.

Pearl Avatar

Your skin tone/coloring: NC 23 ish
What do you use to clean brushes? Dr. Bronner’s, Lavender scent
How often do you clean your brushes? Every Sunday
Do you enjoy cleaning your brushes? No – it’s the one beauty related Sunday chore that I don’t like.

Nicole D Avatar

Your skin tone/coloring: Fair/light; cool to neutral.
What do you use to clean brushes? Currently the Beauty Blender liquid soap + Sephora brush mat + hang them upside down to dry in a brush tree. I don’t like too much the BB liquid version so I plan to either buy the solid version or one of Dr. Bronner’s liquid soaps.
How often do you clean your brushes? Every week, on Friday evening.
Do you enjoy cleaning your brushes? Yes. I love to have them clean and with the Sephora brush mat it’s quick and easy.

Deborah S. Avatar

Skin tone: Very fair with cool undertones.

I cleaned a couple of brushes for the first time today!! And by first time, I literally mean first time ever in the history of wearing makeup, LOL. I cleaned my all time favorite brush that I can’t remember where I got it but it was back in the late 70’s so I have had it for forever. I am a little worried that cleaning it will make it fall apart.

I used a solid cleaner from Sephora. Can’t remember the name but I had received it when I purchased a beauty blender. Seems like it worked okay.

How often do I clean my brushes: I anticipate that this will be my one and only time cleaning them. I only did it for my trip.

Since I don’t usually do it I can’t really say whether I like it or not. I didn’t find it to be a chore but when you are only cleaning 3 brushes, I wouldn’t place much stock in my answer.

Amalia Avatar

Your skin tone/coloring: Light to medium, neutral, slightly yellow.
What do you use to clean brushes? Sulfate free shampoo or Sonett curd soap
How often do you clean your brushes? Eye brushes, concealer and foundation brushes after every use. Face brushes every week.
Do you enjoy cleaning your brushes? Yes, I like to use clean brushes.

~NW15-20. Thanks for posting this question every once in a while. It’s actually pretty important. And I appreciate other’s answers as guidance. Always use a color switch pan, between uses and before spray/shampoo. Not feeling the love for almost all products. It runs from hate to dislike! Nothing gets the white Waynes back to white, unless I resort to products that ought not be used with natural hair. Might try some liquids from Shea Mosture, as that is prob the major African Black Soap co here. May order Parian Spirit from Beautylish. As Christine stays away from the drama (always a good plan) I wanted to mention that Beautylish and Deciem are severing their relationship. Muse has a post.

Rachael Avatar

Your skin tone/coloring: medium/tan/olive
What do you use to clean brushes? I use the Beauty Blender liquid cleanser
How often do you clean your brushes? Whenever I think of it because I usually use my fingers
Do you enjoy cleaning your brushes? Yes. I happen to be an oil painter and I clean brushes all the time and I think there is something meditative about it. I also bought a silicon sponge that I also use to brush the brushes back and forth. Works great.

What do you use to clean brushes? Clarifying shampoo

How often do you clean your brushes? about once a month

Do you enjoy cleaning your brushes? i do not enjoy cleaning my brushes. I think this is why I have so many of them. I have actually started storing them in 4 sets so that each week I can use a clean set but I still only dedicate time to wash them once a month.

Cristina Avatar

My skin tone is fair, with a pink undertone
For clean my brushes I use Trichlorethylene, they become dry in a minute, it’s a trick of a MUA
I clean the brushes I used (I’ve many brushes) once a week
I enjoj cleanining so I can change palette (usually I use a different palette every week like I change bag and colour of dresses)
